So lets deal with the play first...
Anjies charactor is very underdeveloped as with all other charactors in the show but hers especially...
she is shown as needy, religious and smiling, sickeningly sweet...enough to give me a sugar high her bro will never have...
so if I were to fill the gaps...as per my mind (a dagerous thing)...they lost thier parents when Arnie was what 15...she was shown without a limp in fb (could be an oversight or a later injury but as it is with all of their med research...polio is the sickness allocated)...so he completed school and the went to harvard...on what...they were kicked out of thire residience...Nani took them in but apparently did not have much...we are made to believe that Arnie got them here...manorama helped with Jewelry...but nani keeps hinting that mano was the maid...so many disjointed versions...
I think to get Arnav where he is it was Anji that bore the brunt...begrudging herself of many things...
may have fallen ill etc...
so the shared past, grief and ugly story...the strength he lent on and then took off...makes him attached to her at a different level...the co dependency, the gratitude and guilt...a very strong and also dangerous relationship for it can be poisonous...
So I would not call it just duty but love also...all of our relationships are that a bit of everything...even love for a partner...just in different proportions...
right now his sister has more than earned his love and loyality...and for khushi it is a guilt ridden love he feels because of his short sighted ness...
and to be fair to Anji...as far as we know (which again for me is a flaw in her charactorisation) is unaware of how her brothers need to be her protector is coming in the way of his fullfillment...
hooof...that much for the fiction...now I will be back with the real life part...
edit
I am not sure if this is a disclaimer or educated review😆
this show is prone to vast exaggeration a neccasity for drama...but the needed basic story or premise and the necessary research is shoddy and wanting...making the exaggerations that much more unrealistic...

good points tangam.

the biggest difference I see is that Anji is unaware of the unhealthy obsession of Arnav over her well being. I think when she finds out that he sacrificed his love for her sake, she would back off and let him free. At least thats what a true loving sis would do. But then again, this is drama, right? so brace yourself for an evil turn in her character, i would not put it past the makers.

Whats disturbing is not what is shown. Whats extremely disturbing is that hoards of women are taking real life lessons from what is shown.
ASR the ideal husband
Khushi the ideal girl
Anjali-ASR the ideal bro/sis

Facts and fictions converging causing some confusion between reality and reelity?
Escapism can help one imagines but to what level is the question.

And to that end, the makers are OBLIVIOUS or pretend to be or simply dont want to acknowledge or dont care that the gobbledygook they churn out every week is lapped on, lock stock and barrel, as the very holy grail of definition of human character, a guide to actual living and a mantra to understand one's partner, sister or family!!!

Hmmm gobbledygook a word I use frequently which means yet again I am in CONFUSED land. That being the state of me very often after watching this drama. However I enjoy it inspite and despite as I am still hanging around

I get the creepies just thinking about the lessons people are drawing from this fare, that is utterly mediocre, under-non-researched, non-factual flights of someone's wild fancy.

A tad worrying agreed when lessons are drawn from this fare as you clearly put it

off my soap box now.

(adding colors for my own flights of fancy 😆)

Hello,
Great topic.
"Priorities" and "Making the right choice" as a lesson are never given importance when bringing up a child.
You teach them the basics
1. Never Lie
2. Respect you elders.
3. Work Hard
4. Be courteous to one and all
et all

But to take decisions and set your priorities right is never a topic many discuss with thier children.

So eventually everyone struggles emotionally and physically to choose what is right.

Why do we always end up having choices?
Why are we always stuck at cross roads?

OUR INABILITY TO TAKE DECISIONS CONFIDENTLY. - SAD BUT TRUE.

At present in iss pyar i wudnt refer 2 arnavs overprotectiveness of anjali as far fetched 4 three main reasons, firstly anjali has additional vulnerabiliy coz of her polio. Secondly coz of her very naive n gullible character n lastly coz they have both been orphans since a long time. Therefore i think arnavs concern is understandable.

That is the beauty of pontifications ...the difference of opinions and thought processes.
Indeed reality could have the call of duty pulling us much much so than the proverbial pull of the heartstrings.
Anjali, naive and gullible? Really? Not manipulative, devious and cunning? Or am I viewing her in a rather warped and twisted manner? She has her brother dangling on the end of a very short string.

@tangam.. sinnie, DG umm drooler (😆).. whatever floats!

@SJ.. the point.. we don't need to draw any from the 0 researched show. i am still not convinced someone's doing that.. in fact maybe i give too much value to the viewers and say they are way mature to think so..

and more than once i have questioned that thought of yours.. strange love that.
women can multitask now, can't they? watch the show + discuss on the forum! (in reality - the show has nothing to offer today; so the latter is easier to do)

@enigma.. maybe i meant women sacrifice more than men in relationships. maybe i din't.. well, now you never know! hehe. maternal instincts - i have none. natural - yes!

@meera : LOL; how's the celeb of yours who you lost respect for?

feeling like simran popat !!!

i thought someone shared with you on the forum that they understood their partner better because of the show? social message? (first post here on this topic, perhaps, I misunderstood)

anyway, i have seen many posts on IF with people drawing conclusions and lessons on explaining their spouse based on ASR, explaining themselves based on khushi, gotten personal PMs from people upset over ASR or khushi's character (yeah, as in really upset and sad) that while i applaud those who can separate it from reality, i am convinced everyone is not able to.

I can't publish those posts and pms here without revealing who did it. so i will say this - I have seen and heard enough to truly feel that many (not all but a minority, or may be a good number) are unable to separate this from their real lives.

with that i will cease to comment. obviously, landing at the opposite end of spectrum.
