But lately I have had to go and literally stalk my "outbox" to see who has requested for PM once upon a time but now doesn't even bother to open my PM about the update. Without saying much or causing a scene, I delete these people.

I agree with you about time exchange. It takes A LOT more time to write a piece AND then send out PMs than to "Like" something and leave a short comment.

If people find honesty rude, they are going to find both you and I extremely rude.

If they find it rude, we can say we find silence and demand for PMs rude. ⭐️

I completely appreciate the time and effort it takes to not only write but pm everyone. We are lucky that writers are sharing their gift with us and the least we can do is at minimum like the post. I always try to comment although I sometimes have technical issues. I use a touchpad and its a bit limiting at times.

and of course, courtesy is so important. I read some comments that are almost commands. But I hope the writers know that many of us are appreciative of their hard work.

Honestly I don't open ne ff. I can't follow dem. I am not a gud reader. I am gonna to loose my concentration in d middle dat's sure.

Smtimes I mingle, smtimes I got confused, n smtimes I 4get d previous parts...too much 4 me.

I too write os-es, dat works for me (my weekend hot n sensual tadkas) but following ff is just not my cup of tea. Infact on d contrary I read my own os-es just twice or smtimes thrice to only chk n rechk. Dat's it. But if read ne os I properly n honestly comment n like.

hi

Being a writer myself-- i know how much we put in out updates and specially pms get annoying... i never make it a compulsion on my readers to comment but i want them to comment at least once in a while just to let me know that they are following my work..

We are writers. No one is forcing us to write here, It is obvious we look out for comments but these days i feel many writers are getting too particular about the comments... (even me sometimes cz i dont accept buddy requests from people who have never commented.) We are writing for our pleasure..i feel we shouldnt make it a compulsion on the readers to comment every time we update.. cz that appreciation is not genuine, it is forced.. true comments should come straight from the heart without anyone asking to comment for it.

Dont get me wrong, m not saying a reader should never comment and we should pm in vain (spoken by a person who sends 400+ pms and gets about 300 likes on a good day).. but lets not make it a compulsion on them to comment for every update-- make it a point to like every update-- yes..but let comments be honest...

readers should make it a point to like the post and comment at least occasionally. If they are not following a ff, they should unbuddy the writer (pms being the issue here)

but writers need to change their attitude regarding feed backs.. Appreciation when forced does not have any value.

i feel writing and forcing people to comment is just an insult to ur talent and ur writing... trust in ur talent and ur work-- u dont need anyone to tell u that u r good and there will always be some genuine readers who will comment their heart out without u asking them..

Mary, prior to joining the IPK forum, I only read FFs written by a friend of mine who is part of another forum, and I still comment on her work there. I was never really interested in other FFs primarily because of the low calibre of penmanship pretty much across the board.

This forum changed my views. I am still selective with the FFs I choose to read, & the writers to whom I've sent PM requests. As you know I am a big fan of your writing. Your devotion to your work is commendable & shows in every piece you write. And I can understand your appeal for constructive feedback! When I comment on FFs, I try to focus on the parts of the narrative that 'speak' to me; from an edititorial perspective, I give my feedback only if I think it would be helpful to the writer, or if I have a comfort level with the writer.

Everyone has the right to express their views, fictional or otherwise, as they deem fit. Readers have a choice whether or not to read what's written. They have a choice to like & appreciate, especially when someone's writing resonates with them. I do hope that readers in this forum who enjoy reading a peer's efforts do give effective feedback, time permitting. I also hope that constructive criticism is given & taken in a positive manner. After all, it only helps the writers become more precise in getting their creative views across...and as readers, we get to continue reading brilliant works by our favorite writers! 😊

Hey Mary!

As a reader, I am mostly between option 3 and 4...actually always between option 3 and 4 if I read the entire post and don't abandon it in the middle.

As a writer, I completely agree with your post.

Readers need to understand that a piece of writing didn't just drop in from somewhere. It was the result of somone's thoughts and hard work and if you manage to go through the entire post, the writer deserves some sort of reaction - fawning or constructive criticism as it may be.

They need to get it through their heads that they are not doing us a favour by reading, not by a long shot just as we are not doing them a favour by writing. It's a two way street where both parties should be respected.

Silent readers, do yourself and us a favour and don't read our work and on our part we will stop bothering you with such posts.

Ideal readers, thank you. :)

I agree in real life on an ethical basis but I cannot say that I write here for my creative pursuits. It is true however that is it voluntary and I had volunteered to stop writing but came back because of requests from some of my friends here at IF. I am not creative at all in the FFs that I write. I can do better but FF is just fun so I don't put in a lot of brain work. My work goes into it in terms of time only.

I really write to converse with the other viewers about the alternatives I provided for the viewers thought the FFs. If people read my writing and many do, I do demand comments because I want to talk to them. People who get stubborn and still refuse to comment think it is because I am looking for compliments which I am not. It is not because I am fishing for compliments. Sometimes I love the criticisms more because it gives us something to talk about. This is why I reply to all the responses that have thought. I can't really respond to just compliments and demands. It is because I want to talk about the alternatives I provided in the story. So by that logic, yes, I do insist on comments. I do feel that if people like reading my work they would write me something in return. It may not be the popular view but it is what I hold. Can't speak for the other writers.

Couldn't say it better Anjali. I agree, I welcome the criticism too. The criticism I was referring to here were not criticisms to any of my writings but rather separate posts telling all writers that we are doing a bad job by going the way we do with our writings - in other words, making Arnav repent. I felt that was quite unappreciative of whichever writer the person had read.
