Sush, man I was sooo hoping someone would post-mortum that article ... it was just begging for it almost :) glad you started the ball rolling.

ASR & Anji the Raizada funions! So ASR's character has had some of his layers peeled back ( aah I get it now! Khushi had been shedding onion tears !) ... but I think we have yet to see the core of Anji ... the subtlety with which they've set up her character is sheer brilliance ... or atleast will be if they turn her grey. I really hope they explore this further ...
I don't mind the bro / sis quotient as long as it is their separate tracks in it's majority with some crossovers as necessary ie Anji own journey to find love and heal the wounds of the past...the whole didi ki saut crap storyline I hope is dropped like the proverbial hot potato...get Shyam booted out and start Anji's journey.

Ok now the whole opposites attract ... sigh ... only if the differences are complementary and only IF there is atleast one shared belief ... here I'm glad the execution went beyond Gul's half-baked idea ... ArHi have both lost their parents, they both have a strong family bond ... the whole being drawn to each other inexplicably is just tweenie wet dreams! Can't believe a grown woman would come up with such nonsense...pfffttt

I definitely agree on Shyam's two dimensionality. The original premise of the cassonova sounds fine but here in execution this failed, the result being a lascivious twitching murderous cartoon doing impotent rounds around khushi. I think the production team need to reel in the OTT delivery and make Shyam sly and cunning again ... I mean come on the villain ought to garner a response of distaste not smirks from the viewers.

Oh my what a long post for a couch critic ;)

After reading about the 'saut' title I was gagging for a full hour 😕 I mean seriously?
I really really hope the story is not going to head along this direction with Arnav being torn between his sister and his sister's saut .
But me being the eternal pessimist, have already come to the conclussons that Arnav will have to choose between the two women. And he would ofcouse choose his sister. 🤢
How will the three of them come out of this mess? How will Anjali cope up with this when she learns the truth? She would be scarred and broken for life, being the devoted wife she is. How will she look at Kushi after the truth comes out? How will this affect Arnav?
How will Arnav cope with it seeing his sister's broken heart? She would never be the same and neither will he. How will he ever look at Kushi when each and every moment he lays eyes on her would remind him that because of her, his sister's life was ruined (even thought it's not her fault).
How will Kushi cope up with both Arnav's and Anjali's inner turmoils? Will she ever be able to ease their pain?
I have always said this and Im repeating. Even after the truth comes out, Kushi would be far from being happy. On the countrary Im worried what would happen when the truth comes out.
I have a bad feeling Anjali is going to be the thorn in Arnav-Kushi relationship.

I disagree with you here sush, about Shyam. I think the character is absolutely fascinating. There is so much scope to the character if portrayed well. I think Abhaas is doing a fabulous job ,until the twitching started.

There are many men who do lust over a girl even if they are married. Its quiet common. But what makes his character interesting is that he is a street smart guy who married well. He wanted a good lifestyle through marriage. He is not a casanova ,who falls for every other girl. He fell for a simple girl after he got married. Till now his character is similar to SRK in Kabhi Alvida na kehna.

But what is different about him is that he loves his image. Of a good person, of a good son in law..He doesn't want his image to be tarnished. He wanted 2 separate lives with 2 wives. But it was beyond his control and finally Guptas came to know about him. He is a psychopath now.. He wants to possess Khushi even though he knows she doesn't care for him. He made plans to kill his wife. The news that he is becoming a father has no effect on him. He just wants Khushi.. Now he is more like SRK in Darr.

I think the negative character is a pretty good one with lot of scope about his past too.. N AM is fabulous. Hope he continues in some way in this show.

@ Somz, completely agree with you. Shyam is a v interesting character... and again, like all others v nuanced. Mami is another, with her past, her intelligence, her kindness all lumped up together just like we all are...

@ Sush, great post... I wont open a can of worms here but for me the darkness in Arnav is the attraction - how much light does this level of darkness need? A lot.. and Chamkeeli lights up the whole space..of course she is imperfect too.. and he can bring the much needed self esteem, respect for one's own thought vs social pressures..etc.. all so exciting to watch.

at the end of the day, I am still awed by the fact that this is an Indian serial, operating under India telly constraints and managing to tell a darned good story on so many levels, within the constraints they have...

totally rocking.

Evening ladies. Great comments by all.
@Premparbat - I too was very surprised that Gul failed to mention the leads in her article. To me they are the reason the show holds up big time. There was a link posted in the forum about an article from Hindustan times, reviewing soaps across channels and this is what they had to say about IPK which says the best.

This couple has such crackling chemistry, the TV screen could combust. In a landscape littered with effete men and meek women, Arnav and Khushi stand out. He is rich, powerful, cruel, heartless (a simmering Barun Sobti). She is poor, self-respecting, soft-hearted, spirited (a very pretty Sanaya Irani). They claim to hate each other but are secretly in love...

I hope Friday's track will continue next week. I doubt whether Khushi will tie in Shyam to Arnav's hurt on Monday but she will not let go of the fact that she has hurt him. Hopefully the CV's will move this track intelligently and stay away for mindless rona dhona.

Nice post...thanks for bringing it up. I see pretty much everyone reacted the same way about "Di the saut"?!?! I heard about Vaidhedi being the original tittle, but not this. I read it and I was like are you kidding me with that tittle??
I know Gul said it's about Anjali-Arnav and their past but few days back Nissar Parvez gave an interview and said in a love story even when the track is showing the supporting roles it has to be about the leads. Anjali-Arnav relationship will never become the main focus.
From TRPs or from all the articles that are coming out these days, I think they have the idea how important Arnav and Khushi relationship has become for the viewers.
That's why she should have mentioned BS and SI specifically when thanking the IPK team. I have tried to watch few other shows over the weekend and felt like it is really hard to keep a show going solely based on love between two person. No wonder they slip every one and then. But, that's why I really appreciate the effort of the whole IPK team.
Have good rest of the weekend everyone.

Excellent points!!! I remember talking to a Bostonion on IF about IPKKND who would visit the forum sometimes...but never caught on to it...saying that we see the depth in IPKKND...because we are projecting ourselves into it...according to her the plot really is not that complex... Diya...remember her? Her name skips me...

Sometimes I think she may have been right ...a least go some extent...and when the complexity in the characters does not live up to our imaginations we feel quite dsiappointed...

Shyam...for one has been an extremely crazy character...while lusting for a girl part is real...his staying in Madhumatis house ...plans to marry. KHushi...and still thinking about marrying her...while she has made it very clear that there is absolutely no interest...and now no pressure from family either...There is simply no logic...no complexity...to me is downright stupid...He even planned to kill Anj...and that track was beyond any intelligence...I mean seriously? He married Anj for money ...right? So he should have wanted to just find a girl he can keep relationship with...not marry...and KHushi was getting too complicated ...he would look for another girl...because he is governed by his libido...Is that too logical for a soap? Most times he just sits there like a sitting duck and gets lucky...because for some reason DM has always been helping him save his
ass...

In any case...I think the story works because of difference in their ideologies...their
personalities and their chemistry...everything else is interjected to create situations to move that forward... Hope they don't get caught up in their own imagination...tha IPKKND saut plot is the one that is THE story...

I must add...the creative team has been quite brilliant in delivering us a a very interesting story so far...without the saut and other OTT stuff...so they can use the plot to weave a story and create situations but thats the extent of importance it deserves to keep it interesting ...at least for me...

Great analysis!!
I have great respect for 4Lions team - Gul , Nissar and team.. Love their work - definitely know how to make it interesting to watch - not just interesting, but outright addictive..
Although I love Arhi dearly - in general, I have hard time digesting these couples that are so strikingly opposite in everything under the sun - from wealth, status in society, dialect (pure hindi vs accented english), education to dress sense - they need to keep it more realistic..
My all time favorite couple is still Armman-Riddhima - if I am not mistaken, this is Nissar's first directorial venture and he did this brilliantly and this is a match of equals - but still opposite in their attitudes - and that works for me!!

You know i thought exactly same thing...it does seem a bit logical for indian series...i had same ideas going crazy in my mind that if you look at it he should just have relationship and not get married because the money bank will freeze the account then...i came to the conclusion that perhaps in his own narssistic mind he thought he can have a real realtionship with khushi and somehow get access to monies perhaps in a way of a will or something i dont know??
I mean his money bag is anji so to get rid of her is one of the biggest mistake he can make and to top if off those hideously stupid plans to get rid of her...who tries to burn someone in front of her family???his family...perhaps plausible but hers???then scorpion???ummm one thing with insects is they dont think like we do and henceforth the scorpy didnt bit her...and then brake failure...again not thinking...had she the one driving the car perhaps makes somewhat sense but she had a chaffeur so now that plan sucks too...but along with all this what i was confused was why in the world does he think that once anji is gone he is going to get khushi???then i realised that because in his twisted mind he really believes that khushi likes him too...
she the best thing for him would have been keep up the facade with anji, try to find someone who doesnt have problem with his being married and perhaps go that way...but then again the whole marrying for di sake is not logical either so who am i to say anythign eh?
