i don't know if we have that in our weddings but i remember people making us feed sweets to each other playfully at the banquet.

i don't remember taking pheras either. i think, we don't have that in our marriages(telugu), or do we?!

well, i was half asleep in my wedding because it was at 4:00 am in the morning and i didn't catch a wink in the night because the reception was held the night before. i had to take that special bath before the wedding and all the lady relatives collectively made that special plait with flowers by pulling my hair however they liked. i was miserable by the time they got me ready for marriage😆

this thought came to my mind just now. isn't alcohol made by fermenting sugar rich foods?
swathi is a case of love gone bad for shlok, way past its edible time frame. in other words, his past love, which has toxic effects on his relationship with aastha in the present.

go through this interesting list i found of Love Vs Toxic Love online:

1. Love - Development of self first priority.
Toxic love - Obsession with relationship.

2. Love - Room to grow, expand; desire for other to grow.
Toxic love - Security, comfort in sameness; intensity of need seen as proof of love (may really be fear, insecurity, loneliness)

3. Love - Separate interests; other friends; maintain other meaningful relationships.
Toxic love - Total involvement; limited social life; neglect old friends, interests.

4. Love - Encouragement of each other's expanding; secure in own worth.
Toxic love - Preoccupation with other's behavior; fear of other changing.

5. Love - Appropriate Trust (i.e. trusting partner to behave according to fundamental nature.)
Toxic love - Jealousy; possessiveness; fear of competition; protects "supply."

6. Love - Compromise, negotiation or taking turns at leading. Problem solving together.
Toxic love - Power plays for control; blaming; passive or aggressive manipulation.

7. Love - Embracing of each other's individuality.
Toxic love - Trying to change other to own image.

8. Love - Relationship deals with all aspects of reality.
Toxic love - Relationship is based on delusion and avoidance of the unpleasant.

9. Love - Self-care by both partners; emotional state not dependent on other's mood.
Toxic love - Expectation that one partner will fix and rescue the other.

10. Love - Loving detachment (healthy concern about partner, while letting go.)
Toxic love - Fusion (being obsessed with each other's problems and feelings.)

11. Love - Sex is free choice growing out of caring & friendship.
Toxic love - Pressure around sex due to insecurity, fear & need for immediate gratification.

12. Love - Ability to enjoy being alone.
Toxic love - Unable to endure separation; clinging.

13. Love - Cycle of comfort and contentment.
Toxic love - Cycle of pain and despair.

REKHA - Very nice explanation of symbolism of water and Sugar. in diffrent context.

What about Patipuja/ Patnipuju ?- I think they fed each other some sweeets! - Any thought?
They fed each other so many times sweets and water - difficult to remember.

I have got slightly different interpretation( not much).:

I used to know water is a sign of life ( SHLOKE & Aastha love vso much each other- they are each other ' LIves' - they mentioned verbally on several occassions/)

We drink water to quench our thirst ( He refused to take water from RIYA to quence his thirst and to get happiness in life) ,

Water also symbolizes 'Change'. Therefore , water is often present at the turning point of the story. We can very often notice this in case of ASHLOK's life..

Rosogolla represents' Triumph over EVIL '( ASHLOK's TRIUMPH over EVIL ADITI).

Fire represents - Energy / Power/ Sexuality/ Creativity/ passion ( / authority.

Fire in case of ASHlOKE - - ENERGY/ sexuality/ creativity/ Passion
Fire in case of Na - POWER/ AUTHORITY

Apple signifies in case of ASHlOK - totality and earthly desire/ LOVE/ divination and Fertlity

Sweet dish - also signifies- rich and happiness, Probably that's why we celebrate anything good with sweet dishes.
Sugery water - Admixture of energy / Life

Very good observation Rekha 👏.
Shlok always wanted to share his good times with Astha knowingly or unknowingly...he offers a bit more to her than she can take too 😉
I loved reading other analysis too...by you on love, toxic love, by @Sathia, @Vinni, @Ankitha, @Dogan ...don't have much to add myself!

thanks. water is used in anjali-aastha scenes too. aastha gave anjali water when she was sick and she splashed her with water a few times accidentally. i'm not sure if it represents only sensual feelings, though it was used in a sensual context in aastha-shlok scenes a few times.
but sweets i think are used only between aastha-shlok. so sugar/sweet represent sensual feelings probably, because sweet is something that is enjoyed with the senses.

Astha throwing water on Anjali is to cleanse her of all old rotten thoughts and traditions and be ready to wear new clothes of independence from old customs and traditions of NA is my interpretation.
