Agree with you, @mentalexotica . This is izzat crap is pretty regressive specially at a time when there are more and more single women in society. The argument that it is just a soap does not stand. Soaps, films, series reflect the society. And everytime a hero uses the concept to shame a girl...it reinforces the whole idea that single women and single mothers are s**ts. Soap or not... The task is to show its wrong, to question the mindset, not use a handsome hunky hero to reinforce that.
Coming to the soap itself, advay is a professor, supposedly (he doesn't seem one from any angle) which means he is educated, enlightened person who would have some progressive ideas. But zilch. How come this supposed professor's mindset is full of such crap? .
Even if he is using it to shame Chandni for revenge is there no other way than to use and reinforce on her for such regressive attitudes.
And alas, howsoever much spunky the heroine is, she becomes a true Hindi soap heroine when she becomes a quintessential doormat. Chandni with all her ideas and confidence is going to take it, feel ashamed and weep. That Her family has done the same and she is suffering for that isn't a part of this argument. Why? Because they are bad people who are meant to to be cruel, and regressive. They are not meant to be admired. But the story, the plot, indeed his role as a hero justifies Advay for spouting and using this izzat crapand chandni as a good girl should feel ashamed and become a doormat- that is problematic
So no, there is no way that this izzat crap can be excused
