Part 2- Realizations!
He was relatively still in shock. He hadn't totally synced to the situation. He couldn't even comprehend when the ambulance was called to the lawn, when she was laid on the stretcher, and when they had reached the hospital.
All he knew was she lay lifeless in front of his eyes. More than that it was the last second's scene before she closed her eyes that stayed with him. She had smiled!
Tears made way to his eyes. He couldn't comprehend. He had lost the ability to think and react. A strange silence drowned him in. Where? He din't know. His brothers took complete charge in the meanwhile. The others kept asking him if he was okay, he simply nodded.
In all honesty, even he dint have the answer. Was he okay?

She had been shifted to the Oberoi home. The bullet had luckily just touched and passed her shoulder kissing it. Hence the injury was minor. But she did crack her arm bone when she had sprang like a wild tigress over him.
She now lay peacefully asleep in his room, on his bed. The guest rooms were all either occupied or filled with the Diwali arrangements or gifts. She had been sleeping that way ever since the incident took place.
It was already late afternoon. Om and Rudra had taken care of everything.Shivaay was better now but still in his silent zone. His brothers had just left him, once they had made sure he was okay.
He now got up from the couch and gently perched himself on the bed. He looked at her delicately. He ran his fingers on her forehead following to caress her head. He waited for her to regain consciousness.
Kuch bhi nahi hai yeh jahan,
Tu hai toh hai iss mein roshini.
He closed his eyes. The pang in his heart. The secrets of his heart he had learnt in the past eighteen so hours in the deep silence he had observed, were slowly surfacing. The scene before she fainted clear as crystal in his mind.
That smile!
It had revealed everything to him yet concealed the unsaid.
"Anika!" He called out softly, his tone underlined with concern and something more.
As though she heard him, she reacted. She coughed. At once he became attentive. She opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was his eyes. A small smile made way.
He smiled back as though he had got a new chance to life. He felt like a man who had been rescued from the deepest waters and was brought to the surface. He helped her sit up, and quickly grabbing the glass of water made her drink some.
She screwed her eyes shut and a soft groan escaped her lips. He looked at her painfully. The pain must be a sharp sting to her delicate self.
Without any discussion or words exchanged. He immediately called the doctor and asked if a certain painkiller was safe. "Yes. I understand. But the pain is bad. I am aware of the side effects. Alright Doctor. Thank you!" He ended the call.
She was amazed how he knew that her pain was too bad.
"You can take this, it's a little intoxicating but it works." He finally spoke.
She was never the one to resort to painkillers. Pain came to make you strong, she believed. She looked at the medicine in dilemma. "Take it!" He whispered.
There was no more thinking. She looked into his eyes and nodded. She winced in pain when she tried to lift her other hand to take it, from his hand. Her body was in pain. He shifted closer, and moved his fingers closer to her lips. She stared at him, simply. He placed the medicine in her mouth and made her drink water.
"Sleep!" He said shifting a little away.
She frowned a little. " I can't sleep anymore. "
He smiled. She was so cute!
"Thank You!" He said getting slightly emotional.
She simpered slightly. She would have looked away breaking the eye contact if it wasn't for his hand that held hers.
"Why?" He whispered.
She gulped looking at him.
They remained silent, for a while. He wanted to give her the time. But was impatient to know the answer to his question.
"I ..."
She couldn't complete.
He let out an inaudible sigh.
"I think you should sleep. You need rest!" He stated pulling his hand back. Realising his hand had been holding hers for quite some time now.
She held his hand. His eyes followed the path from his palm to hers and all the way up to her eyes.
"Stay!"
He sat back.
"Are you okay?" She asked concerned.
"How can I not be?" He said genuinely.
She felt light. She smiled rather widely. He was making her melt!
" I was scared." She confessed looking at his hand.
He started feeling it was the medicine's side effect. But he was more than interested to know.
" I was scared too!"
"I was scared for you! If something happened.." Her eyes were teary.
"Why Anika?" He asked, rubbing her palm gently.
"I..." She couldn't complete. The feeling was too overwhelming.
He shifted closer. " I was scared when you closed your eyes that way." He cupped her face making their foreheads meet. Closing his eyes he said all that he had felt," I was scared when you smiled at me, it was terrible! I thought I'd never see you again! I was lost when I saw you on the stretcher like that. I was drowning when your heartbeats were dwindling. I ...I was scared, I'd loose you."
Tears rained down his cheeks. He broke apart to find her in a semi-sleep state. Her head was resting on his chest nearer to his shoulder. He kissed her head.
He slowly lay her on the bed and went to sit on the seat by the window. While the early moonlight fell on his face his eyes were on her.
He din't know what place she had in his life. He din't know whether the thing in between them could be named. He just knew she meant a lot to him. He now knew where she stood in his life. She was his life! He din't know when, how , why she had become so important to him. But she was very important for his mere existence he realised. His existence toned down to her presence in his life. He gulped. The emotions were overpowering. Maybe his brothers had been right?
The thing he had for her which he refused to name - anything he held knowledge about. He din't know what to name it, neither felt the necessity to. But, today somewhere down in his heart, he knew it was way powerful than he assumed it to be!
* * *
Three days had passed in a flash. She was doing much better. The family took care of her. On the evening of the fourth day she expressed her desire to go back to her own home. At first the family showed disapproval, but then she had to go back one day. Her place in the family seemed natural.
She smiled as she greeted the elders of the family who were leaving for a wedding function. Once they had left she looked ta the three brothers. "Thank You!" She smiled looking at the trio.
"For taking care of me and putting up with me!" She chuckled.
Shivaay dint laugh. His eyes were fixed at hers. He hadn't got a chance to thank her after that night for his family barely left her side. The moments they would get alone were stolen by their inhibitions to speak up.
"We should be thanking you!" Said Rudra directly and honestly.
"He is right, you just din't save Shivaay's life, you saved ours too." Omkara added.
She looked from one to the other finally to the third who was rather silent until now.
"Thank you !" He said softly. She smiled back.
"Take Care!" She looked at the other two, and disappeared towards the gate.
Shivaay stared at her. "How can she be so selfless?" His eyes dint leave her trail.
Omkara patted his shoulder and smiled looking in the direction his brother was gazing in.
"Ishq Uski Ibaadat Hai,
Tujh Mein Rab Dekhna Uski Aadat Hai!"
Shivaay looked up at his brother.
"Kuch Tere dil mein hai,
Kuch uske Dil Mein Hai,
Yeh bikhre bikhre tukde,
Mohaabat ke hain!"
Omkara's words were slowly clearing Shivaay's dilemma. He liked her but din't know whether it could be called love. They were a perfect working team, but dint know whether they could be a perfect team to face an entire life.
But today as she walked away he felt, the need to stop her back. Tell her to stop and be by his side. There was so much that was unspoken between them.
"Go Shivaay, she will be waiting, drop her safely!" Omkara brought him out of his thoughts.
He nodded and left. Om smiled. Rudra walked up to him.
"She loves him so much!" He said happy for his brother.
"He loves her so much!" Omkara smiled, his eyes holding that secretive shine. He understood much more . He wasn't the one to go by words he studied people's eyes. Eyes never lied. His brother's certainly did not.
Rudra frowned, "Bhaiya?"
"Din't you see? She was shot but he was left lifeless, she was in pain but his eyes were moist. Today she walked away and he was left empty! He loves her too. I wonder for how long has he bottled up what he feels. His priorities have bee the family and business. But when she put him before herself. He got a lesson. Almost loosing her had made him realize, time waits for none. He isn't the one to commit the same mistake twice. What do you think? " simpered Omkara, answering more than asking his younger brother.
Rudra smiled widely, "how are you still single?"
Omkara rolled his eyes and started walking away, and Rudra broke into laughter following his trail.
