I KEPT YOUR PRIDE FROM DYING...PART 4
MUMBAI 2014
Gauri Ssarma started a new chapter of her life as an assistant tailor with Mrs Rathore's brand. The main tailor of Mrs Rathore's workshop was Ali who was around 70yrs. He was brilliant with his job but would alwyas complain that he never could get an able assistant. When Gauri joined him he was apprehensive considering her experience, but within a week he realised that this girl had some hidden talents.
Gauri was used to designing and stitching simple stuff in Bareily so this was something new for her. But she had always been an eager and sincere learner and she loved her work. Steadily she picked up the job and within a span of 3 months she was stitching exquisite stuff.
Mrs Rathore would notice her and was surprised at her working capability. She was indeed outstanding with her job. Gauri had a flare for exquisite embroidery which very few people possessed.
It was that particular day in July 2014 which changed her life. Mrs Rathore had acquired an important and prestigious contract from a fashion brand in Spain. They wanted a collaboration with her with some exclusive designs.
Gauri had seen Mrs Rathore putting in immense effort for the same. Within a week the designs were ready and handed over Ali and Gauri would assist him. Unfortunately, Ali incurred an attack of paralysis which destroyed his right hand. Mrs Rathore was shattered. It was difficult to obtain a tailor at the last moment who could take over the job. She was almost distraught and was about to cancel the deal...when Gauri went up to her...
"Madamji, please do not cancel this deal..."...She said in an earnest voice.
Mrs Rathore was surprised..."Gauri ...this needs to be cancelled. I don't have the required backup to finish this job. It's a matter of my prestige. If I shall explain it to them...they shall very well understand..."
Without wasting words Gauri came to the point..."Madamji I want to take up this assignment. If you allow me... I shall start rightaway"... Gauri said with a determination, but her palms were sweaty.
Mrs Rathore didn't say anything...just looked at her sincere eyes...she thought for a moment and replied...
"Gauri...its not just a matter of stitching...Ali would put in his own ideas and improvise on my designs as well"...
"Madamji...I know that...I have assisted him for quite sometime...give me one opportunity please...if you do not like my work...you can fire me"...she said earnestly
Mrs Rathore didn't know what to say...but somehow...this girl's grit and confidence reminded her of her own struggling days...
She finally nodded with a straight face..."Okay Gauri...go ahead...but it is an international consignment...a matter of my prestige...and you are not experienced enough...one small mistake and you are out..."
Gauri thanked her stars..."Madamji...I shall not disappoint you"...she said and went away to the workshop.
Mrs Rathore saw her leaving and smiled...she would not make any mistake...probably something big was coming up. For Mrs Rathore it was a matter of her honour in front of the International fashion trade. She was well known for her professionalism.
For Gauri Ssarma it was a matter of her existence...and matter of her pride.

January 2017, MUMBAI
She stood in front of the mirror and wore her black tailored suit. She stared for sometime in the petite structure in the mirror...she needed strength today...she had waited for this day...and now she was ready for it...but Gauri Sharma would have to be practical today and not sentimental. Her stupid sentiments had destroyed her emotionally once and it should not be repeated again. She will not allow anyone ever to break her down.

The siblings reached the venue on time. Omkara was feeling restless prior to the meeting.
"Some things don't change"...he thought...his hatred for the name Gauri Kumari Ssarma hasn't changed...even over this span.
They were heading towards the meeting room...Just before entering the room Rudra received a call which barred him from entering the room. He would probably have to leave to due to some important committments and excused himself.
GS's secretary lead them to the room...as they entered...he saw her...sitting there...wearing a black tailored suit with straight hair and minimal makeup...no accessories...except for a Rado watch.
She stood up to greet them...Prinku introduced her brother to the last
"GS this is my elder brother Mr Omkara Singh Oberoi"...
"Hello Mr Oberoi"...GS held out her hand...in a fluent and confident tone
Om was too shocked for a civilised repsonse all this while...he couldn't utter a single word...he didn't know exactly was response to give at that moment...Prinku saw her brother staring at GS. She was embarrassed and nudged him. Omkara partly regained his senses and realised that she had held out her hand to greet him.
He responded in a trance...the moment their hands touched...the age old static was back in action. He immediately pulled out his hand. Danger was looming all over. He looked at Gauri to gauge her response. She appeared unaffected. In fact from the time Om has entered the room she appeared unaffected.
"This woman was prepared for this" he thought to himself..."she knew I was coming...so she had rehearsed herself...and hence appears unaffected...I was the who was probably not prepared for this...though the name was affecting me..."
But somewhere deep in his subconscious mind...tbe thought went by..."What if she is really unaffected?"...this thought brought in an unforeseen discomfort...which was inexplicable.
As all these thoughts were going on in his mind...he didn't realise...that the meeting was very much on and he kept intently gazing at Gauri...sorry GS
After the end of the preliminary conversation between Prinku and Gauri...she looked at her brother...awaiting a response
"Why was her brother staring at GS?"...she thought..." He never looks at any women in this way...was he feeling unwell?...Its true that GS is a beauty...but her Om bhaiyya was rarely affected by physical appearance...so what was happening?"
Prinku elbowed Om pretty badly...Om's trance was yet again broken...He found Prinku glaring at him...with a "what is happening?" look. He realised that he would need to concentrate on the meeting.
GS gave a lopsided smile "Miss Oberoi probably your brother had come here with some other agenda..." she said in a sarcastic tone..."this doesn't seem to be of much interest to him...so seemingly his mind is wandering off"
Om looked at Gauri...he hated her the most right now...for reading his thoughts aloud...and he hated her all this while. The worst part was that he was being hot and bothered and she appeared calm and composed...
"Can we have your thoughts about this collaboration...Mr Omkara Singh Oberoi?"...she said in a firm time
Hearing his name from her...he looked into the deep piercing auburn eyes...they appeared cold and emotionless...
GS meant business...
...
"Woh bhuli dastaan lo phir yaad aa gayi...
Nazar ke saamne ghata si chaa gayi..."
