The Positive Side? The 'Something New'?

Shivaay's behaviour towards Anika today was cruel, it was ruthless, I don't think it would be an exaggeration to call the last few minutes downright evil. We are all, without exception, disgusted by his behaviour. Shivaay pushed Anika around, he physically threatened her, he pushed her over, he threatened to strip her and force her into the wedding clothes himself. In the Precap he's going to emotionally crush her by pretending to blow up her younger brother...

To be honest I don't know why anyone is surprised because I personally thought him threatening to rape her in the pool was about on par with this, and pretending to blow up Sahil isn't really all that different to when he actually stole away Anika's home, livelihood and potential to adopt Sahil. I think we've just forgotten that SSO because of all the Billu Ji-ing we've seen in between.

But all of that we managed to excuse.

Today?

There is no excusing it. Nobody, not even those who think they can understand why SSO snapped in this manner is trying to excuse what he did.

And that's precisely where I see the positive.

It wasn't made to be romantic. Shivaay was nothing short of terrifying and Anika was nothing short of terrified. This kind of manhandling has always been made to appear romantic or passionate. "Tashan" (TrademarkGulKhan 😆) . But I didn't see any attempt to depict that today. Everything from Shivaay's expressions to Anika's reactions to their tones to their actions... nothing was romantic about it.

Shivaay's grip on Anika was vicious, his eyes looked half crazed, when he put his foot up on the bed beside her I swear I almost vomited in my mouth. Nakuul played it perfectly, lines which could have been so romantic "Mere naam ka mangalsutra pehnogi... Mere naam ka sindoor daalogi... Mere biwi banogi par..." were said with such vitriol that the juxtaposition of what he was saying with how he was saying it just made it even more terrifying. If it was jarring for us as viewers to watch, imagining how Anika must be feeling to be suddenly faced with this Rakshas where she had once seen a Rajkumar is nothing short of devastating.

Judging from the discussions between GK and her writer on Instagram, this almost certainly wasn't deliberate from the writers' side and it was supposed to be played as the standard "Shivaay is a desperate hero and can do anything for his family but he also loves Anika, his tashan is just overflowing"... so full credit actually goes to Nakuul for playing him this way. He played Shivaay perfectly. There was no remorse, no guilt, no regret shown for what he did to Anika. He did not allow the viewers the option of sympathising with Shivaay or excusing this kind of behaviour.

Sure, Shivaay may redeem himself in the future but for today, he was shown to be unapologetically the villain. Every villain thinks they're the hero of their own story and okay, I accept that what Shivaay has done was done out of rage and desperation. But for Anika, the victim and target of that unfiltered emotion? It was horrifying.

I thank the Lord that Nakuul and Surbhi drew on all of that without trying to make any of it romantic, without trying to depict any positive emotions in fact. Just raw rage and fear respectively.

That's what's new. This show really does have some fantastic actors and actresses and after today, I'm going to try to breathe easy because even if the script objectively makes me sick, the actors provide another quite solid filter of protection before I'm forced to try and stomach it.

I'm trusting you NaRbhi. Don't let me down 😆

I don't think there is even a possibility of forgiveness after today. Shivaay's character has become downright disgusting now...And if Anika decides to forgive him for this.. then it will be an insult to her brother which I don't think she will do..I still can't believe he threatened the life of a child...

I had not watched the pool scene till now except in some VMs and pictures. I'm totally shocked to see this type of shivaay. I started watching almost around when anika started work in OM. Maybe marriage should have happened earlier in his bad phase. These days he was roaming around with those harmless puppy looks. Thats why i thought force / swap jaisi bhi marriage he cannot not hurt her.

If i thought he was in character, then i would not minded rude behaviour but now i don't feel so.

The absolute expressionless, detached way in which he just goes "boom" was so jarring for me to watch.

I can't even begin to imagine how Shivaay can ever redeem himself. When his blind panic on how to handle the immediate situation is over after the wedding and his temper eventually cools down... how the hell is he even going to forgive himself?

That said, I truly felt this way after the pool scene as well and all that he put her through culminating with leaving her in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain... and I slowly but surely got over that over the following 100 or so episodes, and so I guess will Anika (and us viewers) eventually.

But for today, I'm just glad that I'm not conflicted about this. I don't have to try to understand Shivaay and nobody has tried to make me. I can hate him and truly detest his character before he attempts to crawl his way to redemption.

I'm going to savour watching Anika shoot him in the metaphorical kneecaps before he can try though... as from all segments and by all accounts, Anika is set to make his life hell after the wedding.

Yeah, the pool scene works well in romantic VMs because it is quite dramatic and looks romantic because he's pulling her and holding her and they're both soaking wet and look gorgeous in the moonlight...

But what Shivaay is actually saying during that scene is "Beg me for forgiveness or you'll regret it." Then Anika tries to leave and he pulls her back and pulls her into him and twists her arm "You wanted to know what I would do to you if you didn't beg for forgiveness? This is what I'll do." And then he presses his body against hers. He literally threatens to sexually assault her. Don't know what would have happened if Dadi hadn't called Shivaay at that EXACT moment.

URGH THIS IS MAKING ME THROAT-BARF ALL OVER AGAIN HOW DID I FORGET THE RAGE?!

I didn't actually watch those episodes so I don't know how it felt lol But yeah there is no argument today. Shivaay was disgusting. Period. The way he put his foot on the bed near her face... that amount of disfigured cruelty.. It freaked me out tbh. If I was in Ani's situation, I would be petrified. The guy is capable of anything at this point.

What I really cannot watch is if this relationship goes back to those cute nok-jhoks. No. After today and tomorrow, that is not possible. This is no longer a cutesy-fumbling romantic love story. It is now a Relationship of hatred and its foundation is anger, disgust and misunderstandings. The line that they constantly emphasise between them is now lit with the fires of loathing. Anika should be feeling abhorred even breathing the same air as him...

Beautiful and brilliant write up on the episode. 👏
I agree with you. I just watched the episode and there is no way anyone can spin this as "romantic." Both Naakul and Surbhi did a brilliant job in playing the scene as an abusive one. You cannot sugar coat those minutes in any other way.
I think we all have gotten used to the softer Shivaay, who is confused about his feelings towards Anika---underneath it he is Stone Singh Oberoi.

The Pool scene - Shivaay's character was not explored fully (Anika was a stranger) and I assumed he was Dark.. Not condoning his action(and obviously it cannot be excused..) But I can still accept it as a character trait.. Not a good character but still..

In the past 3 months, He has interacted with Anika. We have seen his good side.. Ohh come-on 10 mins before the abuse, he was reminiscing their O-Jaana moments and giving himself a peep talk..Aaj ka reaction is unacceptable and cannot be justified in anyway.. Character growth naam ki bhi koi cheez hoti hai.. Dark character banana tha toh dark hi rehne dete.. My biggest issue is yeh pendulum jaisa jo Shivaay ka character idhar udhar pheek rahein hai.. Decide kar lo.. Dark hai ya Gray ya White(sarwagun sampan 🤢)

PS: Acting was top-notch.. And hence I feel even more sad.. Good material given to these 2 would have created history.. 😭

These are the precise points why I don't hate today's episode...
This is Shivaay Singh Oberoi. This is the inhuman man who only has emotions for his family. This is the ruthless devil who has a soft corner only for his own family. I agree today's Shivaay Singh Oberoi was not different from the one who brought a girl and his brother on streets, who had threatened to rape a girl just for insulting him.

We audience have a habit of having ML melt down and go OOC from their earlier avatars for and due to FL but for once the writers have kept him the same. The only reason for Shivaay's softness towarsds Anika was probably because he was subconsciously accepting her. But today she threatened his family and its name (according to him) so he was back to being the devil he is.

I'm not justifying his behaviour. It was downright disgusting but not different from his character. I'm just saying that if we were expecting a love story after the earlier episodes how can we suddenly not today.

As for tomorrow, I'm not going to judge him from the precap. Its a lesson learnt the hard way. I'll see the next few episodes and then give my opinion.

Loool let me not recommend you go back and catch up. The original SSO was far more in keeping with the monster on screen today than the slightly growly little kitty cat he has been since Anika started working in the Oberoi mansion. He really was a cruel vindictive man and the only reason I think I could stomach it was because Anika pushed back even harder until eventually she wore him down. They've both been toned down a lot since the beginning and actually this track is probably pushing them alll the way backwards to when they truly did despise each other.

You're right. That fragile respect, that beautiful bond that had started to form between them which allowed them to bury their past hatred has well and truly snapped and I expect some serious serious hatred between them and I will also be incredibly disappointed if it just goes back to nok-jhok. Anika went through a lot of "Oh, maybe I misunderstood him initially and he's actually a good person." struggles before eventually forgiving Shivaay the first time.

But this time? This time she knows better.
He's got one hell of a journey ahead of him to win her back.
