Ishq - Ek Pratha Chapter 5
Viplav was staring out of window in his room looking at nothing in particular.
It was a week since he had won Love of his life.It was a week since Dhani had reciprocated his love. Yes indeed it was a week since he and Dhani had decided and was determined to cross all possible hurdles to be together.
Ah. In a week lot had happened. News had spread like wild fire about Mahants grandson marrying a widow in Benaras.
Already they were facing repercussions of their decision.
One evening when all seemed fine and ladies in white were all peacefully working in Tarini Ashram stones started falling on them from nowhere. They ran for a cover! Small stones were pelted from above to the hall incessantly. Dhani was able to inform Vakil babu immediately and he came running and with the help of his friends and neighbours he managed to disperse the mob who were trying to set fire to the Ashram by then. No one were hurt thankfully. But Ashram ladies were all traumatised by the event.But Indrani Dhanis Badi Amma who was the head of the Ashram was strong enough to handle allof them and comfort them.
She was very well aware of the consequences Dhanis and Viplavs relationship would have on Ashram. Regardless she had heartily supported Dhani. Infact she was more than happy to see atleast one person in her Ashram, which was not less than a family to her, to get a normal life back and was ready to face anything for the sake.
Dhani was sittingin a cornerof the hall. It was due to her . It was only because of her all this was happening. Her Ashram and her beloveds have to go through so much with no fault of theirs ! why??But tears refused to come out of her. Dulari was trying to console her. Viplav after making sure no one lurked about near the Ashram came near her. Seeing Dhani motionless he looked at helpless Dulari once and grabbed Dhanis hand and took her to the room upstairs and once in the room hugged her silently. She had slowly started sobbing on his shoulder holding on to him.Viplav was silent as no words could console her now. He had stayed in Ashram all night to make sure all was fine.
Next day he took help of his contacts in Police and made arrangement for protection of the Ashram and the ladies. It was arranged that one person would be around Ashram all the time to provide protection.
Now it had become difficult for Ashram ladies to head out for work . Earlier Viplav through Raj had already managed to get an NGO buy the native Benaras crafts Ashram ladies were expert in creating. So now they were full time working on their artwork to earn their living.
All the ladies elderly as well as younger ones were more than happy to work on what they loved. In their own world . They hated working outsidefor theywere treated as Untouchables by everyone providing them work for petty pay!
Meanwhile Viplavs Dadaji had informed that he is trying hard to convince Pandits and Mahants but to no avail and were hell bent on stripping him out of his position as Mahant if this marriage would happen . Viplav had only requested his Dadaji to keep trying with no other solution he could think of!!
Four days later Ashram incident and its traumatising affect seemed to have settled down. Viplav went to his Dadi to find some solace with all this hustle bustle and confided in her his helplessness. Dadi was mum stroking his head in her lap lost in her thoughts. Viplav noticing this snapped his finger in front of her and asked "what are you thinking so hard?
Dadi immediately replied "nothing Viplav. Oh i didn't realise. I have to prepare Dinner." she got up heading to kitchen in a hurry.
Two days later when Viplav was busy with some work after dinner Dadi stood near the door as if hesitating to enter his room. Viplav looked at Dadi "Come in Dadi. Why are you standing there?! His Dadi was still apprehensive and did not move. Viplav sensing this got up and made her sit down and looked at her intently questioning whats the matter.
Dadi took a minute to answer and then she stuttered "Your Dadaji is not what you think he is Viplav!!
Viplav just looked at her questioningly but did not interrupt her. She confided him what she knew was going on behind Viplavs back. Told him that his Dadaji was not happy with the marriage himself and was trying hard to stop this. She had heard him discussing with someone about sending the mob to Ashram. She also confided about how his Dadaji have always hated widows vehemently and that he had always tried to keep Viplav away from Dhani and the Ashram.
Viplav could not believe his ears. He blurted "Dadi what are you saying? how can you say this !!!
But he knew from his heart that his Princess would never lie to him. His Dadi had tears in her eyes " Viplav my child i never spoke about your Dadaji as it would hurt you. I had never thought it would be necessary to speak about it as you were always clear about not staying in Benaras for long !. But my child after seeing you and Dhani struggle i had to . I should not be speaking ill of my husband but truth is he is not what he shows the world to be!! I can only say this to you. Now i leave it to you. To believe me or not!!.He slid down from the chair and knelt before his Dadi holding her hands trying to digest what his Dadi had just said. She fell silent with a small sob and her saree tucked to her mouth to control it. But after a minute she stormed out of his room. Viplav slowly got up and stared outside his window.
Dhani was preparing bed in her room anxiously waiting for HIS call. Vakil Babu used to call her every night before going to bed. Today he had not called yet. It was quite late!! Dhani took her phone which Vakil Babu had gifted her and dialled his number.Viplav heard his phone ringing and seeing its Dhanis answered his phone.
"Vakil Babu?"
"Haan Dhani. Had your dinner?"
"Haan what about you? " She questioned
"Yes "
Sensing that he is not his usual self "Why are you so silent. Is everything alright?" Dhani asked
"Nothing Dhani. Had lots of work so i am tired. Listen i will talk to you tomorrow. Will come to Ashram tomorrow morning. " Dhani just responded with "hmm". Viplav cut the call and stared outside again.
So here he was tears welled up in his eyes threatening to flow out!!
