What’s your perspective on Rathi’s behavior?
Opinion / Analysis
Throughout IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Digvesh Rathi has been at the center of multiple controversies:
Repeated ‘Notebook’ Celebrations: Rathi’s signature “notebook” celebration after taking wickets has been deemed provocative. He was fined on multiple occasions for this act, including incidents against Priyansh Arya and Naman Dhir.
On-Field Altercation: In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rathi’s celebration after dismissing Abhishek Sharma led to a heated exchange, resulting in a one-match suspension and a 50% match fee fine.
Accumulated Demerit Points: Due to multiple breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, Rathi accumulated five demerit points, triggering an automatic suspension.
In today's match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Digvesh Rathi attempted a Mankad dismissal on Jitesh Sharma. However, LSG captain Rishabh Pant withdrew the appeal, showcasing sportsmanship and diffusing potential controversy. Though commentators say it was called Not Out because the appeal was withdrawn but I feel it was given NOT OUT as per the rules also.
These incidents raise questions about Rathi’s approach to the game. Is he merely displaying competitive spirit, or are his actions undermining the spirit of cricket?

Digvesh was clearly out of his bowling crease and due to which the third umpire gave it NOT OUT.
I am no expert so I need your opinion too.
Repeatedly, Digvesh Rathi was in the news for wrong reasons since his inception in the LSG in this IPL 2025.
In many occasions, bowlers are famous for their wild celebrations after getting the wicket of a prominent batsman. It is common and, to some extent, acceptable as well.
Similar to this, batsmen also celebrate their 50s and 100s in a fashion that is distinctive to each batsman.
Rathi is a newcomer and wants to show his prowess in a unique style. Signing on the ground is one such thing and I really found it interesting.
But, trying to run out a batter in a Mankading way is not appreciated by many and will be considered as an aggressive move, not in the good spirit of the game. Pant's timely intervention saved the day for Jitesh. But at the sametime, while you are on the ground and competing with a team to win a game for your team, emotions and tactics will play a major role. Then rules will come to play a decisive role.
Yes, it is a debatable point. I am seeking the cricket fans' and emotionally involved members' opinions on this decision by the 3rd umpire. Please share your views on this incident and decision.
Details about last night's incident--
Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi attempted to run Jitesh Sharma out in the 17th over of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s chase of 228 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Jitesh was out of the crease when Rathi clipped the bails off at the non-striker’s end. The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire, and to everyone’s surprise, the giant screen at the venue read ‘Not Out’.
Moments later, it was revealed that Jitesh was adjudged not out as LSG skipper Rishabh Pant had withdrawn the appeal. Following the incident, Jitesh hugged Pant, who was hailed by the commentators for ‘upholding the spirit of the game’.
Jitesh eventually played a match-winning knock, smashing an unbeaten 33-ball 85 to lead the Royal Challengers to their highest successful run chase in IPL history.
The debate surrounding bowlers running out batters who are backing up at the non-striker’s end was sparked during the 2019 edition of the tournament, when Punjab Kings’ R. Ashwin ran Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler out.
The type of dismissal, informally known as ‘Mankading’, is often considered to be against the spirit of the game despite the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) removing the provision for running out the batter at the non-striker’s end from the ‘Unfair Play’ section.
Honestly speaking - it will be better they make the clear rule rather than this complicated rule as shown on the above video...because the moment of releasing the ball and the intent is very subjective
The batsman at non-striker should remain under crease until the ball is thrown by the bowler.
Warna...non striker batsman 4-5 steps tak aage ja ke kyun nahin khada rehta???
Every second millisecond nanosecond counts for run out...The time should be measured accurately
Second thing -
His notebook celebration is not wrong at all..but intimidating the out batsman by going very close and showing him signing off on his palm (he did with Priyansh Arya) that was not good...He can celebrate without showing aggressive behaviour towards the out batsman
Yesterday Harsha Bhogle was saying Rishabh Pant should not have agreed with the umpire. The batsman was out.
What if it was a qualification game for the LSG?
And umpire should take a call . In some cases they check with the captain if they want to waive off the decision.
Last few games, Digvesh does the celebration only to himself.. I read that his family has also been warning him not to celebrate.
He writes on the ground or n his hand.
Sometimes they r unfair with him.
Virat Kohli also celebrates hard. Once he was making faces to Shreyas Iyer. But just because he's famous and not a bowler, he is not fined .
Such Softie Snowflakes man. Sometimes I get so pissed man with the softie snowflakes attitude man. It's not Sport. That's one thing I think is the drawback of IPL after multiple advantages it gave to cricket. The aggression is missing. Everyone is now friends and all are being softies.
FYI He isn't doing even 10 percent of What young kohli used to do. Kohli flipped the bird (PG name of a vulgar gesture, search Google) live on TV infront of a huge crowd. Always ready to fight. He had many fight with csk fans outside the ground
Or the Ever arrogant aussies used to do. Forget Aussies, majority of teams used to do much much more. Only India were silent. With Ganguly and then MS and kohli India started replying back.
It looks bad purely because he lost. If they had won people would have loved it like they did with Kohli or the aussies.
The only thing is backup your words. Shashank said before the season PBKS will be no 1. They did. If they had failed everyone would have trolled him.
Jitesh before the first CSK match trolled CSK by singing that viral 'Dosa Idli Sambar chatni chatni' song. And he also said my kind of knock is 50 in 10/15 balls. He failed in that match and DJ played that song mocking him. Yesterday he justified that and everyone started praising him and trolling whoever questioned him by exact same song.
Siraj is another case, everyone likes to troll him for his agression. But it looks good when he performs and bad when he fails.
And Digvesh did absolutely nothing wrong. It was all in the rules.
Everything else can take a hike.
Finally people are seeing the light. Digvesh did nothing wrong. If That milimeter touch in no ball didn't happen people would have celebrated him. Also Pant STFU moron. So good that this idiot wasn't made the captain of the team. Gill may lack that voice but he isn't a spineless idiot. He always stands with his team and team mates and doesn't ditch them.Yesterday Harsha Bhogle was saying Rishabh Pant should not have agreed with the umpire. The batsman was out.

I would say even making him a VC is mistake. Should have been Bumrah/Jadeja or Even Yashashvi.
FYI What Pant did was theatrics only. Drama. Captains are not allowed to withdraw appeals now. The decision will be taken by the umpire and it can't be taken back now. All Pant did was Drama to show he is a good guy.
I have no idea why Rathi's notebook action is considered as an offense. I consider it as a harmless new generation thing.
Coming to his altercation with Abhisehk, when Abhishek pulled a note in a different match, which read "this one is for the fans or something like that", everyone started asking him whether he was carrying those notes for every match. SKY even checked Abhishek's pockets for a note when Abhishek played against them. I guess Rathi also mentioned about that note when he got Abhishek out. Abhishek did not mind when SKY checked his pockets but, got upset when Rathi enquired about the note. That is human nature. We don't react the same way with friends and new acquaintances/strangers
Rathi should know Abhishek is not his friend and he can't take liberties with him.
Mankading: I have no issues if a bowler dismisses a batsman if the batsman leaves his crease when the ball is still in play. Recently Ashwin dismissed an England player using that method. As long as it is within the rules, it is okay. But, yesterday, I guess Rathi did not release the ball when he was supposed to release and then run Jitesh out. That is why Jitesh was given not out. I haven't watched the match. So, I don't know what exactly happened.
Someone needs to tell Rathi that he needs to control his emotions and calm down.
Yes, Pant did withdraw the appeal. I wonder how Goenka reacted to Pant's gesture.🤔
Cheers..
