who is Shakti?

prevedic people worshiped Shiva and Shakti.
puranas gives us detailed description. but shivaites and shaktas or saktas dismiss puranas.
for a long time shivaites and vishnuvaites were at loggerheads.

so who is shakti?
the consort of shiva. yes. then she is another name for maa sati or maa parvati?

why is aadi shakti sometimes referred as maa lakshmi; consort of vishnu?

and who is maa durga?
another manifestation of maa parvati?
or a goddess created out of the energies of the trinity to slay the powerful demon as per some legends?
if it is the latter why would she stop her destruction when Shiva laid down on her path?

Great information! Thank you so much!😳

Mahi, the Ashtabharyas were basically manifestations of the AshtaLakshmi, right. So that's the reason why.

Thanks for the question...it made me do some research... I was unaware of this..

It's mentioned in brahmandha purana that Adi Parashakti divided herself to "Purusha" and "Prakriti" from a single seed. The first seed gave birth to Krishna in the masculine form and Kali in the feminine form. Because they were born from the same seed, hence, they are considered to be cosmic siblings. Kali then converted herself to Lalita Tripursundri, and gave birth to two bubbles. From one bubble, arose Vishnu, who gave birth to Lord Brahma and Gowri, who incarnated as Sati, and then Parvati. The second bubble was of Shiva and Radha. Radha further expanded herself to Lakshmi, Saraswati and Ganga...

thank you so SO much for this thread.
and for the beautiful answers.❤️.

how did the universe came into existence?

vedas and puranas differ here. vedas don't even mention vishnu.
vedas don't mention idol worship. they believed in abstract god and worshiped elements with mysticism added to them.
agni, indra, savitr(sun) being the holy triad.
only one goddess is mentioned. Aditi.
Rudra gets a mention. but it is mostly agni, indra, sun, vishvakarma, soma and so on.

there is mention of hiranyagarba (the egg) from which brahman or brahmanapati originated and created the rest of the world.
but i am not understanding the sequence.

someone please help me with the sequence.
who? what? how?
How did it all begin?

angiras is the sage who wrote the vedas first and then got status of agni.
then who is brihaspati? the chief of sages of gods. or the original sage is also called brihaspati?

apologies for my ignorance. doing indepth research on Hinduism now. the more i am learning the more i want to know.
hence asking.

thanks again.

The Vedas were indeed the first books. The Vedas themselves were said to be written by Lord Brahma.
Almost all theories trace back to Lord Vishnu being the head of all, the supreme One from whom all arose. Other than Devi Purana and Shiva Mahapurana and a few others, most support the theory of Lord Vishnu being the first formation of creation. That is a misnomer, for He is Parabramhan, and it is from Him that Creation arose.

It all began when Pralayam happened. Everything dissolved. Everything, except the elements. And hence why the elements are eternal. MahaVishnu arose from a banyan leaf, creating all the elements fully, and the Gods and Goddesses. He is the Creator. He is Brahma and Vishnu. He is the Devas. He is.

Hope this helped.

thank you so much.
but this gives rise to more questions than answers. (or i am a chronic complainer).

Krishna came first? but he is avatar of lord vishnu😕.
vishnu is swayambhu (self created as per some legends)
so is shiva.

how could Shiva; the lord who has got mention in vedic era and got his idols worshiped by prevedic people be born after krishna who is quite a later avatar of vishnu?

why is there confusion between maa parvati and maa lakshmi as the original aadi shakti?

For your last question :
Maa lakshmi isn't referred as Adi Shakti. She's the consort of Vishnu and Mother Nature. Only Parvati is believed as Shiv's Shakti and the complete source of the Universe 's energy!
