Brand Ambassodor of a state usually signifies that the person hails from that state, owes allegience to that state and hence endorsing that state.

Prashant is Indian, by citizenship, by birth and by employment.

How can he be made BRAND AMBASSADOR for Nepal??

Comparisons made to those who received honour from other states. Being appointed as Brand Ambassador is quite different from conferring a title, conferring a honour on another.

IMO, the Nepal Government is misplaced in its intentions to offer it to Prashant. Offer it to Manisha, who is from Nepal, living in India. But offering it to Prashant is like calling your neighbour and asking him to promote your house, when the neighbours own house can benefit from the promotion - it creates direct competition - therefore conflict of interest.

Replies to all: Dev Anand was also brand ambassador of Nepal. Second one was Sunil Gavaskar. Now it is Prashant Tamang. so whats wrong. If an Indian can be Brand Ambassador of Nepal why not a Indian with Nepali origin be one?

Nepal and india has unique and complex kind of relation. You can not isolate Prashant from Nepal, no matter how hard you try. It is up to him how to respond honors he receives from Nepal. But before commenting anything else, you should keep following facts in mind.

1. Nepal and India never had a war or enemy like relationship in history. Indian leaders used Nepalese land to hide from british during independence movement. There were many nepalese political leaders who fought against british for indian independence. They went back to nepal after india was freed from British invasion.

2. Nepalese citizen are the only foreign citizen who are allowed to join police and military service in India. 80% of boarder security commandos are filled with people from Nepal.

3. None of Indian army personal can easily be the chief of army if he does not learn to speak nepalese language. It is because nepalese people are so influencial in Indian army. The Army chief has to participate in an annual Kalipuja ceremony where Army Chief MUST deliver his speech in Nepali language. It has been a long tradition. So, most of the high profile Army officers are fluent in nepalese and do have good relation with nepal. General Ashok Mehta is one example.

4. Nepalese people do not need visa to travel India. Nepalese people can purchase land and other permanent properties in India. Nepalese people can even join government offices, run small businesses, etc. There is nothing that prevents a Nepalese citizen in India to exercise any sort of activities within indian legal framework.

5. Perhaps I don't need to highlight religious ties, relation of Shakaracharya, marital relations etc. All know how close are these two countries in the religion and culture.

Being two different countries, the relation is like this. And if you compare Nepal as a foreign country and you put Nepal in line with Pakistan, then it means you definitely do not know about India. India just has less than 70 years of relation with Pakistan, but several thousands years of relation with Nepal. Within last 70 years of relation with pakistan, india fought more than three deadly wars, in which, more nepalese soldiers have died than indian soldiers.

And here you come to compare SRK sighting his Pakistani relatives to Prashant and his honor ? ??

Dude try to understand special india - nepal relationship first before pouring anything against nepalese people.

Again absolutely false info because I am someone who knows about Indian Army very well. Another thing is Nepalese is an Indian language and people of Nepalese origin living in India are also Indians. So the Nepalese who are in Indian forces are Indians of Nepalese origin not foreigners. But people of Nepal are not Indians. Nepal is a foreign country.

Nepalese people can even join government offices, run small businesses, etc. There is nothing that prevents a Nepalese citizen in India to exercise any sort of activities within indian legal framework. It was earlier when I visited Nepal. Now people need visa to cross borders. One can get the visa at the border though. But visa is must.

You can justify as much as you want but the truth is Nepal is just another foreign country and the ties between two nations is not friendly as before. I don't want to make it a political discussion by mentioning serious security and cross border issues on Indian Idol forum.

Now coming back to actual topic. The topic is not about previous ties of India and Nepal. It is to know where Prashant's loyalty lies if he chooses to honor.

Prashant is Indian Idol because he is an Indian. It is as simple as that. If he is made a brand ambassador then it should be to improved cultural ties between two nations.

Why should Indian Idol be used to promote some other country's tourism?

Absolutely. I concur with your views. If anything, Prashant should be brand ambassador of peace between two countries.

Why not? i don't see anything wrong in Prashant being the brand ambassador for Nepal's tourism. It's not like he is changing his citizenship or anything like that..Plus, Prashant speaks Nepali so thats a plus point.
It's like saying Arnold shouldn't be the Governor of California because he hails from Austria..?

Why should Indian Idol be used to promote some other country's tourism? Why cant Nepal use Indian Idol o promote their tourism if it helps improve the relationship b/w India-Nepal?

I have absolutely no objection with Prashant being honored in his ancestor's birthplace. Such honors are indeed something to be proud of. However, it would be sad if he uses Indian Idol title for betterment of another country. It is my personal view.

No matter what excuse one gives about previous ties between two countries, the fact is Prashant is what he is because of Indian Idol platform.

I rest my case again😊.

if an indian becomes the brand ambassador of Nepal tourism wouldn't that possibly make nepal-india's relationship better?
