This really is called making a hill out of a mole hole. All poor Prashant needs to do, if he accepts this proposal is to say 'I enjoyed my visit to Nepal, it's a beautiful place, the people are so welcoming and friendly' blah blah in a few interviews, appear in a few commercials by the Tourism Ministry, if there is one, what's the big deal?
If nobody questioned Sunil Gavaskar's loyalty towards India, when he occupied the same title as the Brand Ambassador for Nepali Tourism, why all these questions now? If nobody thought Gavaskar was helping the economy of Nepal, why the questions now? For those who think this only benefits Nepal, think harder. In the outside chance that someone from India decides to visit Nepal after seeing Prashant commercials, which country's travel agency will he/she use to make the arrangement? (Indian Agency ofcourse) Which airline will that person fly? (Air India or Indian Airlines or Sahara) If that person brings back some goods from Nepal and pays duty at the Indian customs, who gets the revenue? (Indian Govt). Sure, that person will stay in a Hotel in Nepal, eat in Restaurants and spend here and there, but with the number of business that have atleast partial Indian investment, something is surely going to be channelled back to India. SO all this talk about just benefitting Nepal is an ignorant statement, to put it mildly.
Also, it's quite interesting to see this extreme reaction from many of those who have predicted Prashant will sink into oblivion, vowed never to buy his CD, berated him as a bathroom singer, claimed that he is not ever 'their' Idol (as 'their' Idol is either Amit or Emon or Chang and like)! I had never even dreamt that this little non-issue would suddenly cast him as 'their' Idol and they would start expecting him to act in the manner befitting their version of an Idol.
