I haven't read all the posts preceding mine so I may retouch some points. This year on II3, especially for the girls, alot of teenagers were chosen. Now they may be adorable, but some older contestants like Aisha Sayed lost out because of this. She did have a more mature and trained voice. Puja and Deepali were absolutely fine to make it to the top, but I would have rather seen Vanita or Rashmi make it rather than Ankita and Richa. They did have more rich, mature voices. Yes, VOI has the best singers period. Irfan, Toshi, and Abhilasha are amazing period. It is good that singers like Amanat and Poonam are in SRGMP because they really do focus on singing, but they have also started putting more into their performances. They are the anthesis of the Idol prototype. But quite frankly Amit is amazing without training. In fact Sonu told him not even the best of singers can sing in sur without background music and how he complemented him of singing in high pitch without making his voice thinner. The guy focues and sings very well. Bulla Ki Jana last week was amazing, and I have heard it sung on so many reality shows, but it was so much better than when Vinit or Aneek sang it. Yup, I am going to be bashed for that. Emon is amazing at 17 and not can just sing Chaudhvin ki Chand with the essence of the original but plays the keyboards, guitar, and drums. One cannot say he is an amateur anything. Chang can be not considered the greatest singer, but he had a very charismatic personality and distinctive voice. Without Indian Idol 3, he would not have been introduced, and I would never have read his blog and developed a crush on him for his mad writing skills 😃. But the best thing about Idol is that there is less drama than the other shows seriously. Yes, there are some bits here and there. But it is not to the extent of Himesh in SRGMP or it going to the extent of Alka calling Aadesh BC. In Idol the teasing is mostly playful. Not all the time but most of the time. But gosh does the voting system suck the most on Idol?

By the way I just wanted to add that I do love Shaan, and he is one of the playback singer I really do admire. He has gone far in making a niche for himself by writing lyrics for his private albums. Tanha Dil is one of my favorite songs ever, and it so meaningful. It shows alot of depth as an artist to write it. But he shouldn't say all Idol singers are amateurs. This year there was less quality. But let's look at how talented Karunya, Meenal, and Amey are! The SVOI and SRGMP singers are actually trained by mentors. Look at how much Poonam has improved from when she first came. Ismail Darbar told her to open her voice, and look at how she sang Vande Mataram. Best performance this season of SRGMP in my opinion!
How can non-singer anchors know finer nuances of music?
If the verdict is decided based on voting by public, majority of which hardly understands music then what difference does it make if the anchor is singer or non-singer? There are judges, mentors and then public voting. Who really cares about anchor's opinion and that too an anchor who always say 'Wah! kya baat hai'.

oh God. that is one bias interview!!!

Competition has spoiled Shaan totally. how can he just say t hat Indian Idol contestants are amateur!! 😡 😡 😡

whatever they are, they never ask for sympathy votes, they all had a very graceful exit. none of them stood there and said "main uss ghandagi main nahian jana chata" and yes they are brilliant singers and human beings!!!

the whole article was disappointing and rude!! It was Gajji and him who started the regional voting mantra in C 05. when he used to stand and said aap ko home town saye itnye votes milye aur baki saye itnye. he used to stand there and used to question and encourage contestants to get votes from their own region.

now it is irritating him!!! grrrr

I think singers should not be anchors, coz in hunger or their show's publicity they ruin their own reputation.

btw. thanks for shairing! 😊

i dont think that shaan said some thing wrong

here so many members said - ache chunoge tho ache sunenge

not only janta, but the judges who are selecting the candidates for top 12 shoul also select good people. other wise we will get ametuers.

this time II failed miserable in that - they went after, looks, rocks and performance.

why srgmp and svopi got good singers. they selected good singers from the lot.

now in srgmp it is difficult to say who is the weakest singer from top 5

but in indian idol top 2 we can say who's the weakest singer.

why ii platform not training the contestants.

they are concentrating on stage shows and press conference - not because they dont have trainers

i admit that amit is good but cant be come near to any of the contestants in srgmp and svoi
may be because of the technical training

and regarding what shaan said about ametuer is comparing with srgm and svoi contestants not with him or others.

i know we all love indian idol and dont like others point finger abt II3- but fact is fact

but it may be different if the finals were between - amit, emon, deepali, puja.

any ways now sony has to change their strategy for the next indian idol otherwise this show will loose their credibility.

have anyone saw the bathroom singer competition in sahara one - i saw one episode and i think next year they can participate in II.

i like shann a lot...but i disagree when he says what do non singer anchors know abt nuances of singing?

mini and hussain praise a contestant when he does nicely and then when they do badly...then they dont.and their opinions are always from their heart.whereas shann looks like kes given a script.
abt fighting....svoi also have fights and differences.

and finally amit is a very good singer.he might not be trained...but imagine with training what wonders he can do,if he sings 'bulla ki jaana' without any formal training!

but yes,svoi has better talents.

I wrote a post earlier... that I agreed about how the other singers are better than the II3 singers. 😛

The only thing I don't agree about is the drama, when Shaan was a part of SRGMP there were also the judge's drama's Himesh and Ismail, Alka and Abhijeet which was all scripted by Gajji himself.Alka and Abhijeet drama is always on. Alka made an exit in one episode to go for some show in U.S and then came back again. What nonsense was all that??? Shaan is still with Gajji... who scripted all the dramas for SRGMP and who is now directing SVOI.

I admire him as a singer but he was also a part of the biggest drama show SRGMP.

The whole discussion boils down to well Trained VS Amateurs...my points for all to consider are these...
1) Can't Amateurs be good singers...?
2) Don't well trained singers make mistakes..go off sur,taal...etc...
3) Can't Trainning enhance the in-born talents in II contestants....
4) Is it gauranteed that well trained singers (like in VOI or SRGMP) will make a mark in the national music scene...forget the internationl scene!!
5) And Yes ...Shann , Udit, Sonu...were once all amateurs..weren't they??

Maybe Shaan is jealous that II Rocks & SVOI doesn't 😊
I think the highest drama is in SRGMP.SVOI also has its share.
