Yes, SMP has a unique voice, but that doesn’t mean you butcher all songs. We appreciate her uniqueness, but we don’t appreciate all her performances.

I quite liked her audition for Indian Idol, and I even started off enjoying yesterday’s performance, but then she overdid it.

If you’ve gone through comments, you must’ve read how Ajay Atul looked at Vishal during SMP’s performance.

If you think the judges aren’t given some lines to say, I’d say your mistaken. If the channel is hellbent on promoting someone the judges will too. Have you noticed how Pawandeep is always praised? Even though he’s not always phenomenal, also Ashish. Have you noticed Sireesha, Nachiket and Sayli are seldom praised, even though they perform well.
Check out Sonys social media pages and you’ll know just a handful of contestants are praised. The problem is SMP is being promoted by the channel a bit much, there’s no personal vendetta against her

Channels promote the contestants who are popular with the audience so that it brings them the desired TRPs. If the channel is promoting SMP and Pawandeep more than the others it means they are popular with the audience. The reason why they don't come in the bottom 5. Neither of the two are from influential families so there's no reason why the channel would promote them more for anything else than their popularity. Also Indian Idol is heavily edited, I beleive the one on Sony Liv, even more. So we really don't know how much of the praise for other contestants by judges are retained in the show. Check out Dance Deewane, they are editing out so much of the judge reactions, especially Tushar Kalia's.

Reality shows are of big budget airing on weekend primetime. They can never play fair. They will show more of what the janta wants to see and squeeze that in that limited one and a half hour of runtime. That's what gives them viewership.

What's butchering a song to some can be a musical treat for others. At the end of the day it is music and it is about personal preference of style than following a standard set of liking. Likewise for the judges as well. What will Vishal, Neha or Himesh get from hyping up particular singers over others except for the sheer joy of seeing them perform on stage?

Fair enough. One mans meat is another mans poison. I appreciate you like SMP’s singing style, and am not judging you. Likewise don’t judge people on the forum, saying we hate her. We may not enjoy her music, but that’s that

Honestly, if SMP wants to continue singing in her style, she should choose English songs or Westernized Hindi songs to mix in her yodeling. Not classics like Inteha ho gayi or Roop tera mastana. Maybe that's why I don't like her much. Her singing style doesn't mix well with such songs. It's like putting chili powder in kheer. If she were to release an original song in her singing style, I might appreciate that more.

I only partially agree with you. Yes they promote the popular ones, but they also promote who they want to.

@bold: Perfect analogy, couldn't have put it better myself 👏

Preference is one thing and a majority appeal is another. SMP does not have a universal appeal and that will remain a drawback. There is a small market segment in India who will listen to her, while the remaining majority will enjoy both if done well. Does anyone not see that majority of the contestants are reality show insiders? There is definitely something that goes on that we don't know about. SMP came to Idol from SRGMP. Both handled by the same creative team.

And its easy to forget but the judges are paid to be there. The channel kinda 'owns' them in this perspective. And the judges have lost so much self respect that they are willing to do anything for the money and PR. And if the guests don't comply they wouldn't be called too. Its as simple as that.

I am talking about the hate she gets for judges praising her. I saw a post that talked about how Ajay was looking at Vishal during SMP's performance and then gave a standing ovation or something like that. We all know the show is edited. No one knows which reaction is put where in the show. Calling the judges partial and hating on the contestant just because they praise her is what I was talking about. Baaki ka kya hai, it's a show everybody will have their favorites and those who they don't like. How can anyone even judge anonymous faceless and nameless members in a forum like this? :P

But for what? There should be a particular logical reason for that right? I can't find any.

Don't think so. Lil Champs is by Zee's in house production EsselVission. Indian Idol is by Freemantle.
