Sitara just launched banni and after a good opening it's falling flat. Now with launch of kbc banni is at highest risk, and by revamping imlie with new faces they lose on spill over audience.

Also cricket season till mid-November, and the slot being highly competitive makes it rather risky to launch a new show or change faces of Imlie.

None of us thought it'd go beyond this year, but this was too illogical and too soon.

I have no idea why Sitara did remake of Bengali show Khukumoni Home delivery. Yes Banni is remake of that show. The interesting thing is Khukumoni was launched by replacing another show which was actually doing fairly well. Guess what happened...Khukumoni debuted with high Trp but then went down so bad and flopped and was taken off air. I don't understand why Sitara made remake of a flop show. As I said, I don't know what Sitara is trying to do. The Star Jalsha FB page is full of hate comments towards the channel because of its regressive content. Does SJ learn anything from it? Apparently no.

For those who did not watch 90s ITV, let me tell you we had lovely shows then. They were weekly and bi weekly. Many based on literature. What we are getting now is regressive content that dates back to perhaps 50s, 60s and 70s. I remember when I was in school, we use to wait eagerly for Fauji, SRK's first TV show. I remember the 90s when I was in college, we used to wait for Banegi Apni Baat, a youth show that launched R. Madhavan. Loved him so much. I left India just before soaps were introduced. I used to hear about them from my mother. I guess the initial soaps were fairly good. The first few soaps of Star Jalsha were good. But then this regressive content hijacked ITV. All logic flew out of the window. Politics has taken over the channel. I guess each board member is trying to beat the other. God only knows what is going on. 😭

Hm we do sense some internal conflict, but that'd only mean it's matter of time before the rival takes away the cake

The more and more I think abt it it just feels that, the star heads have lost their marbles . Nothing abt rajjo or banni pull me towards them I just cannot connect . They have this trend of having a brilliant gifted girl from rural background and savvy hero. That's it. Also i feel there is something else totally political/etc ..I'd rather not say what is going on in my mind ..this is not the forum. I think the channel is not secular....there I said it .

Ps: I love our leads to bits and am very secular.

when I first saw the promo, I immediately thought imlie was ending. I even posted about it but I don't think others had the same thought as me. when I think of a channel, I think business, numbers. so any decision has multiple layers and therefore more based on reason than emotion.

here are some of my thoughts (though I can be off since I am not that familiar with the industry dynamics):

-- my guess is that PH and channel have a contract that is for x number of episodes. after that point, they re-negotiate terms and numbers. at this stage, the channel might ask itself whether it is cost-effective to keep the show going or whether to wind it down. anytime, a show is extended, you need to also re-negotiate salaries for actors as well as the technical team etc.

-- I remember vaguely of some salary and terms related drama on these lines in yeh hai mohabatein and a few other ekta serials. those were then sorted and the actors stayed on.

-- sometimes, it is the PH itself that wants a better contract and not necessarily the actors. again that can cause friction between the channel and the team. again, have a really vague memory of a drama on zee from years back where the PH and channel couldn't agree on terms and so they winded down the drama.

my guess:

-- they chose a new show with a simliar theme because they had already made some sort of pre-emptive decision on imlie. it was already in the works -- either a winding down or a complete halt

-- this may have been ratings factor (in comparison to the other shows) as well as a cost factor or issues with production house. any business decision will have multiple layers and so it can't be just ratings. there are multiple angles that we won't get to know.

-- the very fast pacing of arcs from the wedding made no sense; in other serials, wedding to falling in love can go from anywhere from 100 to 200 episodes. consumation always takes forever to happen in other dramas, sometimes even past 200 episodes. here, they covered all of that in under 50? think how ridiculous that is! so I strongly feel this has been in the works for months behind the scenes.

-- another clue is the lack of development of side characters -- in other dramas, surpita track would have taken maybe 50-100 episodes. that is how they drag these serials to 500+ episodes. the drama isn't solely focused on main characters but you develop the side characters in order to keep the juice flowing. the lack of development indicates they weren't interested in keeping the serial going for very long.

-- I feel that gul would have preferred to wind up the show altogether but due to contracts, she is obligated to do another season till the channel gives it a full axe. hence her rather abrasive attitude about how silly fans are being and how 150 families depend on the show. who pays those technicians? she does with money she gets from the channel.

-- I also feel that the channel is not particularly interested and may be revamping their schedule (which they need to do from time to time) in order to compete. so they have slotted in another season in order to get time to develop other dramas. they are probably in discussion with other PH and makers

Completely agree... Post marriage tracks have been extremely rushed.. and make no sense especially their proposal, acceptance of love and pregnancy.. lol

None of us thought it'd go beyond this year, but this was too illogical and too soon.

my feel is they have no long-term plans for S2. hence, it is more like a placeholder till cricket season is over and they can launch something else if it doesn't work.

"if people watch, great but if they don't, oh well" -- that I think is the channel's attitude.

for me, the proof is in the writing. so went and checked in hotstar:

-- wedding track of arylie: 414-437 = 24 episodes or 4 weeks

-- confession and consumation (tree date): 474-477 = 4 episodes

-- gap betwen to build the romance = 37 episodes or 6 weeks.

this is unusually short when we look at it from typical soaps which literally use 100s of episodes to do a slowburn. during the whole confession episodes, my sole reaction was "what is the rush? why? why?". if the wedding track was 4 weeks, shouldn't we atleast take 100 eps to get to the confession?

-- if we look at surpita (start to wedding), it is 452-463 = 12 episodes or 2 weeks.

how small is that in comparison to other dramas which devote tons of episodes to even side characters?

so when I look at the writing, I think the rushing of the arcs was because the channel and PH had more or less decided to let go of imlie. thats why they were not willing to invest writing in tracks that should have ideally been long.

See by that logic imlie before ASR was adaption of ishti kutum which goes on for 1000 episodes and Atif exhausted that plot in 270 something, all that Malini molesting akt was never part of og story.

Lot of things in this show have happened last moment improvising, lots of off screen drama.

I believe things went down for imlie mid july. All was well before that, they even had plans for post leap which was probably scrapped with this change in leap decision.

Also about holding slot, it can easily be done with arylie. There's nothing like lack of story or tracks in ITV, none of the actors want to leave. A quick fix can be easily done through memory loss track. Why to go through all the trouble of casting an entire team for short term like 2 months just to hold spot? Rather producer can dedicate that energy in new show and let this run it's natural course till year end.

yes, there were some great shows in 90s. :)

a regional show that I still remember because it shook people up for the theme -- dating & unwed pregnancy. when the first initial episodes, people were like "what the??? the female lead is pregnant before marriage? and her boyfriend dumped her? and she is chucked out of the house? and she is barely 18-19?" there was so much negative reaction and chatter but the writer/director kept urging the people to keep watching. it turned out to be ratings win with its huge chemistry as well as social messaging. it had parents chatting about dating and relationships. the drama ended with a message from the ML/father who tells his daughter "go ahead and date but be responsible and aware that things may not work out the way you think; so be careful out there"... it was such a different ending scene that I still remember it years later.

can you imagine a pregnant FL now? or a ML willing to help a pregnant FL and later falling in love with her?😆 so yea, there were some 90s shows that was so different in terms of thought and presentation.

true; but I think there is some internal creative conflicts within the production house that is why the show imploded on itself. instead of having a smooth run to an end, we are seeing essential a limp barely to an end.

cool! but am guessing because it was 2010, there was no moral outraging and hand wringing from audience?
