Pooja, I am not saying that ruthless and judgmental people don't exist in all strata. The so called, higher economic class isn't an exception for this. But, what I meant is if you don't have many means, you will have to engage with all kinds of people, in your day to day life, and therefore the impact of such judgements will be more on the psyche. Like, may be you have to come face to face with these people when you go grocery shopping, public transport, gatherings or entertainment, unless you want to completely isolate yourself.
If you have more means, you can avoid all this to some extent. Diversions exist, you have no necessity and have resources not to engage with nasty people. You can choose your own crowds. Because at the end of the day, we can't satisfy everybody and will not be able to stop wagging tongues. 😔
@mango ji, as usual a very balanced write up👍🏼.
What I hated in the whole speech by Arpita is " the society doesn't care for a woman's happiness, the society will blame my brother that he got rid of his widowed sister, the society will blame my mother..... " I mean, hadd hain yaar.😡 This is where the differences are between Arpita and her brother, Imlie, how they are approaching life.
I mean why should the society care for your happiness if you don't yourself? Why would the society make you a path of roses if you shy away from doing it yourself? The second statement has no relevance whatsoever in her case. She is a billionaire, she is not a bhojh on anyone, let alone her brother.
Again, there may be truth that women are targeted more. But, that is no excuse for a person in her position to do what she pleases. She is not being pushed to marry, either by her brother or her mother. She agreed to meet people and she met this nautanki guy. Had she said no to meeting people, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. But, I get it for the sake of drama. Not just Aryan but her mom is also against pushing her into something she is not ready for. Now is the time to put her foot down and say, the nautanki guy is giving bad vibes. Not because of some love for Sundar, but because that is the truth. She won't be living her life for the society with this annoying nautanki guy. I understand the insecurities and all, but in no way is she obligated by her family.
I am hopeful that at the end it is Aryan who will tell this nautanki guy to stay the hell away from his women or he will cook his behindBut I guess, if his mom is enamored by his sanskari nonsense and the sister stays tongue-tied, I don't know what leverage he would have😲
