Mumbai,September 7: ZEE Network has slapped a legal notice on Star TV, objecting to an alleged similarity of title and theme of the latter's new show, Betiyaan. Zee claims that its own serial Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, set to be aired September end, had been registered well in advance and is an original piece of work. It is to be produced by Dheeraj Kumar's Creative Eye. The notice was delivered to Star on September 5. Says Zee Network's senior vice-president Ashish Kaul, ''If no action is taken by Star in the next five days, we intend to go to court over the matter.'' |
The matter came to light when Rekha Modi, writer of Star's Betiyan, alleged that Zee had stolen her idea through newspaper articles. Star claims that a registration was made with the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers on July 29 with the titles Betiyaan and Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan. Zee had registered its script on August 2 with the Film Writers' Association and with the Film and Television Guild of India on August 21. ''We will be launching our show soon and will take all steps necessary to protect our position,'' said a spokesperson from Star.
On an earlier occasion, Zee had claimed that Star Vijay was trying to launch the southern version of its popular talent show Saregama. "We had raised an objection and Star had complied. This time too we are hoping for a similar consideration,'' said Kaul.
