Karan Grover is dating Kavita Kaushik

Arjun (Karan Grover) of Saarrthi is playing the lead role in another serial Meri Aawaz Ko Mil Gaye Roshni. Karan is dating Vanshika (Kavita Kaushik) of Ghar… Ek Sapna. They have acted together in Saarrthi. Kavita has done a cameo of 15 episodes for Saarrthi.

Karan says: "We have been dating for the last one year. We are not just friends. I'm serious about my relationship. We haven't thought about the future of this relationship. Right now both of us want to concentrate on our work. So marriage is not in our list. If we'll decide about it then I'll let you know about it. I don't want to talk about it further."

Karan's new serial Meri Aawaz Ko Mil Gaye Roshni, which is Fox television's first serial. The serial will be coming on air from 23 April at 9 PM from Monday-Thursday. This show will be replacing KBC 3.

Karan says: "The name of the show is Meri Aawaz Ko Mil Gaye Roshni. I'm playing Raj, who is a very ambitious guy. He is controlled and a very friendly person. He comes to Mumbai for this girl Sudha (Ashima Bhalla) as her mother and my mother are friends. This is the story of their journey."

"This character is totally opposite than that of my earlier character of Arjun in Saarrathi. Raj is very realistic, idealistic and ambitious person. For him no body is more important than his family and love. He can mould himself according to their wish. He is emotional and dependent. He is very mature guy.

"They called me for auditions and then selected me. Ashima is a very sweet and talented girl. Whole cast like Kshama Deshpande and Saleem Khan is very co-operative. Working with Fox is a very amazing experience. They are very hard working and motivated."

Karan had done anchoring for Zee Music for many years. After that he started his acting career with Saarrathi. In Saarrathi he is playing a lead. Karan is a chemical engineer and had also done event management.

" I love to cook Bheja Fry"
Harsh Chhaya

Friends first or lovers? Friends they are maintenance free and yet last forever.

My worst habit is . I put my foot in my mouth and more so when I am determined not to.

Acting is... Never get people to know how dumb you are actually .

Mumbai is... dig and put telephone lines then dig and put sewer lines then dig n put water pipes, then dig and put the gas lines .

People are always surprised when.. when they spend some time with me and find that I am 'normal'.

Women can't say no when... women never want to say no. You need to be a man enough to find the way out The fruit I resemble the most. Pineapple looks complicated but there is a very simple trick of knifing out the thorns at one go in less than five minutes.

Love is... mosquito pricks into you and feeds itself. Lovers are just a prey!

Life is... daily soap three sixty five days 24x7 .

Lust is... brasstacks, rejuvenating, uncomplicated, as long as you don't forget the 'precautions'! Its in fact a more 'mature' emotion than love. Fall out of lust and you can still be in love and fall out of love and man, lets not even think about it !
At a party, I can't wait to..get noticed

I feel most comfortable when . when people tolerate me because they ignore me

The last time I cried was . when I recently saw another one of those small budget different cinema film trying to imitate a twenty crore film man that was worse

My mother always told me to.. go ask your father

My father always told me to.. go ask your mother

TV industry … is good to work in and make money
Saas Bahu shows are.. good for married couples as wives keep out of the way of husbands.

I love to eat.. heads brains

I cook...Bheja fry

My fantasy is...few wants and a simple life

Marriage… just makes it easier to get a flat on rent, why can't I think of anything else .

Philosophy of life..
live and let live and if they don't let you live then get rid of them

Ghar Ek Sapna - Could Be Interesting With Proper Handling

This is a serial that has only spent around 4 months on air, and by the standard of Indian soap operas, it has only just started, so the story is sure to take on a number of twists and turns. One thing is clear though, it is very different from the K-serial type saas bahu serials. Here people are shown with good parts and bad parts, but you can see a motive. You do not get to see somebody being evil just because the director wanted to cast that character as evil.

This serial started only a few months back and is broadcast on Sahara One.

It stars such leading characters as Alok Nath, Himani Shivpuri. The people playing the lead cast are Ujjwal Rana (Samman) and Shayantani Ghosh (Kakul). The story is somewhat different from other stories. It revolves around forced marriage, and what impact this forced marriage has on the lives of the people involved. A sensitive topic, when handled with care. Since the director of this serial is Ajai Sinha, who earlier directed Astitva - Ek Prem Kahani, one can hope that this subject will be treated in a good way.

So what is the serial all about ? It is about Samman from a metro, and Kakul from Bihar. Samma is already in love with Vanshika. They meet at a marriage, and Samman flirts with her. Kakul falls for him. In a twist of fate, Kakul's brother-in-law forces Samman to marry her at gun-point, and Samman does that out fear for his life. He certainly does not love her. His family refuses to accept her, but slowly she is able to convert most of them to like her. Samman's mother however cannot do so, and continues to detest her.

Another turning point in the serial comes when Samman finally forces her to leave the house and go back to her father's house. He does this even when he is scared of whether this could cause problems due to Kakul's family. Another twist (although somewhat predictable) comes at this precise interval when you see Kakul turning sick. Having watched enough serials, you know that she has to be pregnant, and of course she is.

However, she still leaves, but does not tell her father that the marriage is over. So, her father is glorious over her pregnancy even when the rest are wondering how to tell him. However, he is not very stupid, and so realizes that something is wrong and needs more investigation. This is where the story is at this point of time. Samman in the meantime is with Vanshika who accepts him back with the condition that he can never meet Kakul again.

Sayantani Ghosh and Ujwal Rana in Ghar... Ek Sapnaa
Ajai Sinha's new venture Ghar… Ek Sapnaa for SaharaOne has had its share of teething problems, even before the first episode went on air!

Known for the mature sensibilities of his dramas, the director-producer is best remembered for shows like Astitva, Hasratein and Justajoo.

December calling

Initially, it was said that Ghar… Ek Sapnaa would take off on December 18 last year. It was later postponed to January 1. And now that the hoardings are plastered all over the city, it's launch date is finally January 15.

Sinha, who is in New Delhi for the promotion of the show, says, "Yes, several dates were announced but now the show takes off on January 15. Since we just started the show, there were some schedule aspects to be worked out regarding banking episodes. Now, we are on course."

Adds Kalyan Sundaram, programming head, SaharaOne, "It was just a programming strategy.

Ghar… Ek Sapnaa will be in the 10 pm slot starting this Monday. As we have recently started three shows — Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye, Zaara — Pyar Ki Saugat and Solhah Singaarr, we needed to space out the shows. We needed to promote these shows before we began promotions for Ghar... Ek Sapnaa."

Home sweet home

Since we just started the show, there were some schedule aspects to be worked out regarding banking episodes
Ajai Sinha
Sinha describes Ghar... Ek Sapnaa is a drama that takes a look at how one perceives what constitutes home. "Does a dream home spell a sprawling, lavish property, a bungalow or a place where you are loved and cared?"

The cast of the daily soap includes newcomers Sayantani Ghosh (who plays the protagonist Kakul) and Ujwal Rana, besides Harsh Chhaya, Alok Nath and Vineet Kumar.

Ghar... Ek Sapnaa also marks Sinha's first foray into a channel outside the Zee camp. All his shows have extremely well-etched female characters and have been a favourite with Zee.

Big screen front

Incidentally, for the big screen Sinha had directed Stop! starring Tejaswani Kolhapure, Ishitaa Arun, Gauri Karnik and Rocky Bhatia in 2004. He has also directed Bachelors (with Sharman Joshi, Riya and Raima Sen), which is lying in the cans.

Sinha is slated to direct a film, to be produced by Prakash Jha Productions. Described as a romantic comedy, it will be a crossover film with two foreigners in the cast. "It will be shot in London and we will begin work on this later in the year," he says.

Simply Kiran
Actor Kiran Karmakar talks about life after "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii"

ENDEARING Kiran Karmakar
As an actor he is extremely engaging. And that seems not just because he is so talented. Well-known tele-actor Kiran Karmakar seems to imbue every role he enacts with his calm, demure self. Take Om in the Star Plus super grosser, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. In a designer saas-bahu serial from the 'K' factory, Karmakar managed to create a space for himself in the viewers' mind. Not just by following the dictates of the director but with his personality that he so dexterously pumped into the character. Interact with him and you know what one is talking about. Minus arrogance, minus any great projection of his success, the Mumbaiite comes across as a simple person, quite effortlessly reminding you of Parvati's Om. "Finally, we all are here to work," is how he sees his success in telly-land. Though the role of Om brought him accolades, he chose to get out of Kahaani... some time back. "I chose to leave the role because I feel every character has a certain life span, and if we take it beyond that, it fails to become convincing to the people," says Karmakar. In return, the actor says he got time to do many other things. "If I had continued with Kahaani... I would not have got the time to do a role in the Star Plus serial Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan or the play Chand Lamhe with talented people like Javed Siddiqui," he says. Also, Karmakar will now be seen on the SaharaOne soap, Ghar... Ek Sapnaa and yet another new serial to begin in August-September. "Shooting for Ghar... Ek Sapnaa will start in a day or two. It is not a permanent role. I will be seen for about 25-30 episodes," he states. Karmakar will play Shekhar, a 35-year-old IT professional whose marriage is being arranged to the already existing character Devika. "Shekhar has a lighter side to him, but having grown up in a family where his mother dominated the scenario, he likes women of imposing attitude," explains Karmakar. Visibility matters Though he had worked in Doordarshan serials before satellite TV discovered him, Karmakar is currently not quite keen to be seen on the national network. "Now, most of the series on DD are copied from cable TV. Most times, the quality of production, make-up, etc. is not up to the mark. So, if you have to be doing these serials, then you'd better be seen on private channels. After all, viewership of these channels counts. As an actor, visibility matters to me," he shares his thoughts quickly, frankly. And you know he has a point there.

Down, under

Yet another over-worked actress faints on the sets. This time it's Sayantani Ghosh aka Kakul in Ghar Ek Sapna

Sayantani Ghosh (centre) on the sets of Ghar Ek Sapna

Here's another actress who could not keep up with the work pressure of a daily show and fainted on the sets. Sayantani Ghosh aka Kakul in Ghar Ek Sapna, recalls, "I was required in almost all the scenes for two days at a stretch. And since we were shooting outdoors, we had to work that much faster. Also the scene had a shot for an immediate episode. I did enough time to catch up on my sleep. I could not bear the physical and the mental strain, and collapsed."

Despite her illness Sayantani had to fly to Kolkata where her mother has been hospitalised for an operation. Adds Shayantani, "As soon as I recovered, I had to rush to Kolkata." The actress will be in Kolkata for a few days and binge on home food. Says Sayantani, "Hopefully, I will recover soon."

So, is the production house unhappy about the shooting being stalled for the time being? Says producer-director Ajai Sinha, "We had put up a huge set and had worked continuously for two days. It must have been too much for Sayantani to handle and she fainted on the sets. Now that she is away, we have decided to rebuild the sets and reshoot the episode when she gets back to Mumbai."

Heart-break house

Resham Tipnis, who had separated from her husband, has now broken up with her boyfriend

Ranjib Mazumder and Kunal M Shah

Resham Tipnis
After having a mutual separation with her husband Sanjiv Seth, Resham Tipnis (aka Trisha of Sahara One's Ghar Ka Sapna) has been dating Marathi film actor Ankush Chowdhary. They have been seeing each other even before Resham had filed for a divorce. However, the five-year long relationship has now gone sour. If sources are to be believed the couple has now split.

Both Resham and Ankush has been working in Marathi films for quite some time now. What started off as mere took the shape of a full-fledged romance in no time. Sources close to Resham tell us that she met Ankush during the time when she was having frequent fights with spouse Sanjiv Seth.

"People on the sets have been a witness to their cosy friendship. Resham found solace in Ankush as she was going through a bad marriage at that point. Their association started about five years back. In fact, when Resham was not keeping well a year back and was later hospitalised, the only person by her side was Ankush. Needless to say, she was extremely close to Ankush," says a close friend of Resham on the condition of anonymity.

Recently, Ankush and Resham had irrevocable differences. If sources are to be believed she was reluctant to support a divorced Resham. Gradually, they decided to part ways.

When quizzed about it Resham refused to talk about her liaison. "Ankush is a good friend. That's it. We were never dating! I don't know how the rumours have spread," is all that she is ready to say. She further adds, "I am not interested in talking about my personal life. If something develops, I will let everybody know about it."

Ankush Chowdhary is also tight-lipped. He says, "I don't know that we have broken off! She is just a good friend and a good co-actor. We have never dated."

Harsh Chhaya with wife Sunita

Harsh Chhaya and his wife Sunita Sengupta are ready to face the camera together in Ajai Sinha's Ghar Ek Sapna. Harsh says, "We were thinking of incorporating a couple of new characters on the show and then hit upon the idea of roping in Sunita for the show. She fits the bill perfectly. Our track runs together on the show."

However, unlike other actors, Harsh is not too excited about the idea of working with wife Sunita on the same show. He says, "It often happens that when a husband and wife are working together, your wife doesn't take you as seriously as others do on the set. Besides, I have often seen people get into arguments while discussing an important scene, since the comfort level is more with their wife. Thankfully, we have avoided any such clashes so far. Let's see what future has in store for us."

I do not know what my potential is
Friday, May 25, 2007 11:4:56 IST
ALOK NATH tells JYOTHI VENKATESH on the sets of Ghar Ek Sapna that TV has now become a bigger monster than films
</>

How do you feel when you look back at your career?
Those were tough times when television was not in great form. Films were hunky dory in their own respect, and outsiders were denied entry. Though my first serial was 'Titlian' directed by Nadeera Babbar, it was Ramesh Sippy's 'Buniyaad', which fetched me a lot of recognition. Before 'Buniyaad', I had also acted in serials like Basu Chatterji's 'Rajni' and 'Darpan', besides Manjul Sinha's 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi' and Amit Khanna's 'Chapte Chapte' directed by Sudhir Mishra.

How was the experience to be associated with 'Buniyaad'?
The role of Haweliram that I played in 'Buniyaad' fetched me several film offers though for one year I was sold to 'Buniyaad' and could not accept any other offer, either television or films. 'Buniyaad' was shot on 16 mm and we had to dub our lines. It was a great learning experience working with Ramesh Sippy.

How was your experience of romancing Tina Munim on the big screen?
The character of Haweliram had become so popular that I was even asked to play the romantic lead opposite Tina Munim in a film called 'Kaamagni'. It was my first as well as last taste as a young man in cinema.

How has your tryst with TV been till date?
TV is a constant process. When I was working in films, films were not regularly shown on TV. Now when films are a distant memory for me and I am preoccupied with TV serials, most of the 450 and odd films in which I had acted are being shown on TV.

How would you rate TV in comparison to cinema?
TV today has become a bigger monster than even films and generates a bigger revenue than films. UTV is coming up with eight new channels while Ekta Kapoor is getting into films with 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' and ' Woodstock Villa'.

In which serials are you acting now?
I am acting in Ajai Sinha's 'Ghar Ek Sapna' which is on air on Sahara One as well as a serial called 'Sansar' on Doordarshan. In 'Ghar Ek Sapna', I play the head of the family. Himani Shivpuri plays my wife. We are the parents of six children. In the pipeline is yet another serial to be produced by Ajai for Sony, provided I get the time.

What is 'Ghar Ek Sapna' all about?
'Ghar Ek Sapna' is based on a real life incident, which happened in Bihar where a bridegroom was kidnapped and married off at gunpoint. 'Ghar Ek Sapna's take off point is the happening of such a marriage and through exploring such an unusual relationship, it explores every hue of the bond of love and marriage, both unique and universal.

Which according to you are your best TV serials till date?
'Buniyaad', 'Kaala Jal', 'Tara', 'Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroora Hai' and 'Astitva'.

Which are your best films till date?
Undoubtedly my best films till date have been 'Maine Pyar Kiya','Hum Aapke Hai Kaun', 'Taal', 'Kubzaa' and last but not the least 'Vivah'.

In which medium are you more comfortable- TV or films?
In TV, I feel like a veteran and have a very good comfort level whereas in a huge film, I may not feel very comfortable, though the new generation does give me respect. It is a ping-pong game. In the last four years by acting in serials like 'Piya Ka Ghar', 'Woh Rehne Wali Mehlomein' and 'Astitva', I may have earned more money than what I had earned by acting in films all these years.

What do you think of actors today?
I think actors are getting intelligent by the day, because they now save money and invest in their own production houses unlike actors of the yore. I lost a lot of money in the making of the pilot of my serial some years ago. The serial did not take off at all. One lesson I learnt after dabbling in production is that one should stick to one's job.

How do you make a conscious attempt to avoid being stereotyped since you play similar characters?
Physically at times, I wear a wig to bring about a different look though I get offers to play the head of the family in practically every serial. I play a tough character in 'Ghar Ek Sapna' whereas in 'Piya Ka Ghar' it was a different character. In Dinesh Bansal's next serial to be directed by Chander Behl, which will deal with three different women in a family who have different ideologies about their personal lives, I will be playing a loud head of a Punjabi family. The hue comes to your character and you tend to see some similarity even in the performance of the same actor in different roles.

What is your approach as an actor?
As an actor, it is my view that you cannot detach your soul from your body and put it into a different character. I try to keep a sense of detachment from my character as an actor.

Has your potential as an actor been tapped by the industry?
No one knows his or her real potential as an actor. If at the end of the day you are satisfied that you have done your job with honesty and have been able to stir emotions in the viewers, I think your job is done. I for one really do not know what my potential is.

What has been your growth as an actor over the years?
Since the time I had played a minor part in Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi', I think I have come a long way. I have to my credit 415 films and 60 to 70 TV serials in a span of twenty-five years. Today I have become more aware as an actor. My sensibilities have widened towards events happening in society within TV and film fraternity. I am happy and satisfied with my career till date in theater, TV and films and am constantly having a 'high' as an actor.
