Harsh Chhaya's forgetful ways

Harsh Chhaya says that his memory or the lack of it often lands him in amusing situations. Apparently, he ends up forgetting small things when he goes about doing errands. Recently, he forgot his cell in a bank, but got it back immediately thanks to the staff there. Speaking about his forgetful ways, he says, "I try to be as careful as I can. But I misplace things and have to ask my wife where they are and she goes... 'not again'." But there is one thing that Harsh does not forget and those are his dialogues. He proudly claims that no matter what, he doesn't forget his dialogues.

After kajra re, it's time for a mujra!

Seems director Ajai Sinha is hell-bent to maket his Sahara One show, Ghar Ek Sapna ek dum masaledar. After weaving an item number, kajra re in one of his initial episode, he's now busy canning a mujra!

A lavish set for the dance act had been erected at Future Studios' in suburban Mumbai, where a European style house was remodelled to suffice the requirement.

Elaborating on the dance sequence Ajai says, "Ghar Ek…as the title suggests is about a perfect home and is seen through the eyes of six individuals. Sujit (Darshan Dave) dreams of seeing his sister-in-law Kakul (Shantanu) well-settled with her in-laws, which is not the case. So, in order to bury his sorrow his friend, Nana (Nagesh Bhosle) takes him to a kotha to be entertained by a mujra, but in vain." And after mentioning this, Sinha himself broke into a ta ta thaiyya along with dance director Habiba to improvise on the authenticity.

Ajai, in our previous tte--tte had stated that they are making an intentional effort to tweak the script of Ghar Ek….to suit the new audience profile and such spicy elements (read item songs) are the need of the hour.

Well, bottom-line is - how fruitful such experiments prove to be will be gauged by the rising TRPs of the show!

Harsh on seventh heaven!

Being showered with praise and adulation is nothing new for an actor. Yet when it comes from a veteran like Dilip Kumar, it can be overwhelming.

Recently when Harsh Chhaya was shooting at a bungalow in Madh, the legendary Bollywood couple - Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu - walked into the sets as they were looking for locations to shoot their own serial. Obviously, their presence created quite a flutter and everybody stopped working.

Harsh says, "It was dreamlike. From a distance my eyes met Dilip ji's and I kind of bowed and smiled and he gave me a nod. The next thing he did completely took me by surprise. Dilipji came up to me and told me, "Son I see your work on T.V. You are a very good actor. Keep up the good work. That just made my day. When I remember this one incident it keeps me going even in difficult times."

Meet the real Mrs Chhaya
By: Shaheen Parkar
April 21, 2007

Shefali Shah is old news (and gets very annoyed by the reference). Actress Sunita Sengupta married Harsh Chhaya in 2003

Blissfully happy: Sunita Sengupta and Harsh Chhaya
Much to her annoyance, film and TV actress Shefali Shah is still referred to as Shefali Chhaya (she was earlier married to actor Harsh Chhaya). So much so, that she repeatedly tells people to 'Get my name right' (HiTLIST, March 7).

The real Mrs Chhaya, however, is Bengali actress Sunita Sengupta. Sunita does both films and television, and of late, has been doing a lot of commercials as well.

Four years together

After a brief gap, Sunita has returned to the small screen with Ajai Sinha's show Ghar… Ek Sapnaa on SaharaOne.

She plays the career-conscious Dr Arati along with Kiran Karmarkar, who essays the role of her brother Shekhar, an IT professional. Hubby Harsh also features in the daily show.

"My association with Ajaiji goes back a long way back. I had worked with him in his earlier show, Astivta. I featured in around 200 episodes as Anandi, who was Abhimanyu's (Varun Badola) sister," says Sunita.

She has also featured with Harsh in films like E Niwas' Dum and Sanjay Daima's Ramji Londonwale. The couple wed in 2003. "In May, we will celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary," says Sunita.

"We met during the pilot shoot of Shivam Nair's serial, which was tentatively titled Des Pardes. I was cast opposite Vivek Mushran, while Harsh played the role of my brother-in-law. The show never took off but we ended up together."

Dabbler

Prior to her marriage, Sunita (who began with Bengali television) would constantly travel back and forth between Mumbai and Kolkata for shoots.

"I am still doing Bengali films, and recently also shot for a Marathi film, Bipin Nadkarni's Evdasa Abhal. As I play a Bengali character in the film, language was not a problem."

Earlier, she featured in Shubha Mudgal's video Seekh Le, directed by Pradeep Sarcar. Between her numerous assignments, Sunita has also acted in Roland Joffe's City of Joy. Sunita begins shooting for Ghar… Ek Sapnaa next week.

T o add spike to the show, the introduction of new charac- ters seems the best way adopted by channels to boost viewer interest. Ghar Ek Sapna (Sahara One) has roped in Kiran Karmarkar and Sunita Sengupta (Astitva). They will make a cameo appearance as siblings on the show. Karmarkar says, "I've known Ajay Sinha for a long time now. I've always expressed interest in working with him. Harsh (Chhaya) recommended my name for Ghar..." He will play a very simple man, Shekhar, who enters the family to mar- ry Devika (Barkha Madan). According to the storyline, Shekhar, all set to tie knot with Devika, also proposes to marry his sister Aarti into the family. Karmarkar adds, "This is the turning point in the story. There are so many characters in the show that it's difficult to remember all. Though it's a 20-days appearance for now, if the story is well received by the viewers, we might just stay on." Sengupta (Arti), Chhaya's wife, will play Karmarkar's sister. "I've worked with Ajay in Astitva. The viewers are in for some thrilling moments in the show." On sharing screen space with her husband, Chhaya, Sengupta says, "Well, this is not the first time that I'll be acting with Harsh. We've done a few films together like Dum and Ramji Londonwale. It's certainly a pleasure to work with him." The shooting will start from this month end.

Mujra enters small screen

Renowned director Ajai Sinha picturised a mujra sequence for his show 'Ghar Ek Sapna' on Sahara One. Interestingly, the lavish mujra shot in the sets had actually converted a European house to suit the need of the show. 'Ghar EkSapna's' mujra sequence is one of the interesting sequences being shot in style for television in the recent times.

Elaborates Ajai Sinha: "'Ghar Ek Sapna' is about the dreams of a perfect home and is through the eyes of six individuals. This is when brother-in-law Sujit (Darshan Dave) sees the dream of seeing his sister-in-law Kakul (Shantanu) settled in the family she is married and goes to a mujra to drown his sorrows. Nana, (Nagesh Bhosle) his friend tries to get the mujra to help him keep his temper in check, but does not manage to succeed."

With dance director Habiba, director Ajai Sinha even did a few movements to give the mujra the authentic feel. And the unit hands had a foot-tapping time at work, a rarity in the times of tight telly deadlines.

Kavita ousted from 'Ghar Ek Sapna'?

Apparently, Kavita Kaushik aka Vanshika of 'Ghar Ek Sapna' (Sahara One) has been asked to quit the serial by producer Ajai Sinha. Sources reveal that Kavita had issues with her co-star Ujwal Rana.

"She would pick fights with him. When she couldn't deal with him, she would vent her anger on the staff. She would refuse to give dates and turn uncooperative," reveals the source. The source adds, "When the production house couldn't put up with it anymore, Ajaiji asked her to leave. He found replacing her a better option to end the squabbles because he wasn't happy with her performance either."

When quizzed about it, Kavita said that she left owing to her character turning negative. She explains, "I wasn't enjoying playing a negative role. My character had started turning one-dimensional."

When askedabout her alleged differences with Ujwal, Kavita replies, "Ajaiji's production house doesn't allow such things to breed. Presently, I am waiting for suitable offers to come my way. I want to take up more work because I shoot for only five days a month for 'FIR' (SAB)."

However, Ajai says that Kavita quit due to her 'prior commitments'. "She wanted to give more time to the other shows she had committed earlier to," Ajai says. Ujwal too denied having any differences with Kavita. Incidentally, Kavita has been replaced by Arzoo Govitrikar.

Kiran's sapna comes true
The actor has finally got to work with director Ajay Sinha in his serial 'Ghar Ek Sapna' Theatre is a great high altogether. The immediate response that one gets is incomparable
Reshma S Kulkarni
THE show 'Ghar Ek Sapna' (SaharaOne) is set to welcome actor Kiran Karmarkar; a stint that Kiran sounds excited about, despite it being a small role. "I had always wanted to work with Ajai Sinha with whom I had done a two-episode stint almost 15 years back. Ajaiji would always have two of us in mind for the same role—Harsh Chhaya and me. But somehow, due to date problems, Harsh would get those roles. This time around, it was Harsh who suggested my name to Ajaiji. And there was no way I could refuse." Elaborating about his character in the serial, Kiran says, "I play Shekhar, a charming, happy-go-lucky guy who gets married to a woman who is his complete opposite. She's fiery and determined to achieve her goals at any cost." But what made Kiran, who has played the epic character of Om in 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii' (Star Plus), agree to such a small role? Kiran replies, "I accepted this role for Ajaiji. Secondly, a role like Om comes once in a lifetime. One cannot sit and wait for such a role, which may or may not come again," says Kiran who seems to have left the Balaji camp, considering his noninclusion in all in all their recent serials. Kiran denies this saying, "Nothing of that sort. Basically, I'm not in or out of any camp. Fact is, that they have not offered me any role after Om that I would have liked to have done. But I'm sure if they have something in mind for me, they will approach me." Kiran is now looking forward to his Marathi film. He is also keen to do more after plays like 'Kacche Lamhe' and 'Mera Naam Joker'. "Theatre is a great high altogether. The immediate response that one gets is incomparable," says Kiran signing off.

Resham and Sanjeev divorced
By: Vickey Lalwani
April 27, 2007

Far from being wary about committing again, Resham is dating someone else

Single And Mingling:
Resham Tipnis
Resham Tipnis (Ghar... Ek Sapnaa) and Sanjeev Seth's (Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki) marriage is over. The couple, who had been married for ten years, has now separated.

Resham and Sanjeev have two children, Rishika (12) and Manav (7), and Sanjeev has custody of both.

The couple had been having differences for long time. Three years ago, Resham had walked out of Sanjeev's home and gone to live with her parents. But a few days later, they decided to give their marriage another shot.

Kids doing fine

While Sanjeev says that they have gone different ways, Resham says, "We tried our best to save the marriage, but did not succeed. We had irrevocable differences.

We decided that instead of having heated arguments frequently, we should separate and live peacefully. So went in for the divorce, which happened nearly two years back."

Resham says their relationship was in rough waters for a long time. "But Sanjeev and I never spoke about it. Even when we got divorced, we did not mention it to anybody. Only our close friends and relatives know about it."

How have Rishika and Manav taken it? "Manav was too young to understand things, but I did have a chat with Rishika. They have taken it well. We will always be there for them," says Resham.

Age difference

Resham reveals that the age difference between Sanjeev and her was one reason why they didn't connect well. "I was just 20 when I married, and he was twelve years older than me.

Somewhere along the line, that became one of the reasons for our split. We differed on money, work and other issues in life. However, there was no third person responsible for our split," says Resham.

Why didn't she get custody of her kids? Resham claims that she did not press for it because the kids wanted to live in Goregaon.

"They have many friends there. Plus their school is near Sanjeev's flat, so I decided not to disturb their life."

Resham has not become wary of men. In fact, she is in a serious relationship with a man she met after her divorce. "I can't reveal his identity but I definitely want to marry him.

Nobody should live alone. Even Sanjeev should remarry. And hey, my lover is just two years older than me, so no age difference problem," she signs off on an optimistic note.

Movie interview: Arzoo Govitrikar

"The insecurity doesn't bother me too much"

What were you educated in?

I am an engineer by profession. I've done engineering in electronics and telecom </>

So how did you get into Bollywood?

I have been modelling for two and half years and have done a Malayalam movie Kakakayull, which was directed by Priyadarshan with Mohanlal and Suneil Shetty as my co-stars. I have also done a Telugu film Manasutho directed by Ravi Kumar Choudhry and Akash was my hero in that. I have finished shooting for a Hindi English film called Enjoy, which is produced by Bharat Shah's son Rajeev Shah-my co-star is Ashish Choudhry. Besides that I have done ads for Sunsilk Pantene International Videocon, Sun Republic, Ramp shows for almost all the designers- campaigns for Air tel, Cimme diamonds Roopa Vohra.

I got into the south industry. I had done an ad campaign for Thums up which was unfortunately never released. Priyadarshan shot that and he was looking for a girl in his film a Malayalam film-I auditioned for it and got the film. The film was a hit and I got my next film in Telugu. And so it went on.

So the aborted ad turned out to be a blessing?

[Laughs] yes .I didn't believe that I was getting such a huge film-I thought Priyadarshan was joking with me. Then I got a cheque and even then I didn't tell anyone. Ten days later the cheque was cleared, only then did I tell anyone that I was doing this film.

Did your parents object?

I am in this industry because of Aditi. As a student when I saw my sister in the media that kindled a desire in me to do this otherwise we have no one in the industry I was attracted to modelling and acting due to her. Since Aditi was already there-my parents weren't upset about my joining the industry.

Tell us about both your Hindi films?

In Enjoy my co-star Ashish choudhry is a lot of fun- while Dreams is a love triangle- I am playing a film actress in the film and I am in love with the director played by Ashish Chanana who is also directing the film. He is producing, directing, writing and acting in it. I am in love with him but he isn't. He is in love with the heroine of another film he is doing. Ultimately I sacrifice my love for him.

How did you get this film?

I got this film through Reshma Bombaywalla-she had sent me for this meeting and I got the role. For Enjoy I was auditioned and got it-it's a very young film-about a party in a farmhouse in Delhi and the story deals with one night and what happens at that party. The music is wonderful-there are 14 tracks- it's by Medieval Pundits from the UK-they're among the top ten there. It's a fun film very youthful.

Any idols?

My idols- Aamir Khan, he's such a perfectionist when it comes to his work. I like Madhuri Dixit-I love films I watch all the movies possible.

Was it difficult facing the camera?

The first time I faced the camera was as model but I was very comfortable-no nervousness no qualms of any kind. I haven't had to struggle too much.

Doesn't the insecurity inherent in this profession worry you?

The insecurity in this profession doesn't bother me too much because I want to be happy-if work happens it's fine but I'm not worried unduly-I think ultimately whatever happens, happens

I am working hard- I am doing my dance classes and I am giving it my best shot.

Any hobbies?

I love going out- love eating seafood specially. See movies spend time with friends.

How is it working with the two Ashishs?

Working with Ashish choudhry is full time pass while Ashish Chanana is very calm-he never gets rattled-I have never seen anyone so calm particularly as he is wearing so many hats together. Dreams is a proper commercial film. Enjoy is directed by Ankur and Siddharth they are Mira Nair's assistants. It is in Hindi and English. Shooting was great fun-all young people-it was a start to finish schedule of forty days. In Chananas film there is Neha Pendse a new guy called Manoj Ashish and myself
