FIVE YEARS AFTER DEV’S DEATH AND GEET DISAPPEARANCE/DEMISE

Location: Villa in Washington D.C.

A beautiful young girl was having breakfast with a man in his late fifties. The man in his late fifties was reading the newspaper and another newspaper was lying next to him. The young girl casually browsed through the paper and suddenly exclaimed, “Pitaji, Pitaji, yeh dekhiye iss ladki ka chehra bilkul humari tehra hai!” (Papa, Papa, see this girl’s face is just like mine.) The young girl exclaimed excitedly.

Hearing the girl’s words the man in his late fifties slightly stiffened and said in a cold voice, “Kewal chehra aap jaisa hai. Woh aap nahi hain.” (Only the face is like you. But she is not you.)

“Aapne bilkul sahi kaha Pitaji yeh ladki toh Bharat mein pali-badi hai aur hum yahaan US mein. Iske kapade bhi humse vichirath hain! Kintu yeh ladki atyanth sahaasi hai. Kya naam hai iska?” (You are absolutely right. This girl is born and brought up in India and I’ve been born and brought up in US. Even she is wearing strange clothes! But this girl is extremely courageous. What is her name?) Searching through the body of the article she said, “Haan yeh raha. Shaadi ke pehle naam thaa Geetanjali Singh Chauhan aur shaadi ke baad Geetanjali Maan Singh Khurana.” (Oh, here it is. Before her marriage, her name was Geetanjali Singh Chauhan and after her marriage, Geetanjali Maan Singh Khurana.)

“Geetanjali ko iske pati ne bahut pratadith kiya thaa. Jiss kaaran usse apna jeevan tyaagna padha.” (Geetanjali was emotionally abused by her husband. Thats why she gave up her life.)

“Aap Geetanjali ko jaante hain?” (Do you know Geetanjali?)

“Haan Neelakshi, woh humare Diwan yaani Rana Digvijay Singh Chauhan aur unki patni Sunaina Rani ki putri theen. Yadhpi aapka nashta ho gaya ho toh chalen der ho rahi hai.” (Yes Neelakshi, she was our Minister, I mean Rana Digvijay Singh Chauhan and his wife Sunaina Rani’s daughter. If you have finished your breakfast, lets leave as we are getting late.) The man in his late fifties said in no nonsense voice.

“Ji Pitahji.” (Yes Papa.)

Once both father and daughter were in car with centre partition closed between the chauffer and them, the man in his late fifties or Maharaj Vasudev said, “Neelakshi hum kuch dino se dekh rahe hain ki aap kissi uddhere-bunn mein hain. Aakhir aapki samasya kya hai?” (Neelakshi, I’ve been observing that you are in some delima for past few days. What is the problem?)

“Pitaji woh...woh....” (Papa, the prob......prob.....)

“Dee, since when have you started hiding things from your Papa?” Maharaj Vasudev said caressing his daughter’s head lovingly.

“Papa, if I tell you the truth, your friendship will Chopra Uncle will be effected.”

“Has Raunak Chopra been a nuisance?”

“Not so much of a nuisance but an annoyance. He wants to marry me but I don’t want to marry anyone as I hate all men except you, Ranvijay kaka-sa and Munshiji.”

“Don’t worry, I talk to Baldev.”

“Thank you Papa.” Neelakshi gave her father a side hug.

“Ok. Now lets come back to business. We are soon going to meet contemperory Construction Companies from all over the world in two weeks from now, hence.........” Thus continued the discussion between father and daughter.

That night at 11:00p.m. Neelakshi (Neel/Dee) was lying on her bed reading before going to sleep when a gust of wind blew open her bedroom window with force startling her. The gust of wind opened a loft cupboard door too high up for her to close. Few bits of old and traditional Indian fashion clothes and a book had fallen out of the cupboard. Neelakshi gathered them and put them on her study table; went and tightly secured her bedroom window; drew the curtains across the window so that lightening doesn’t disturb her sleep; and went to bed.

Meanwhile, other side of the world in New Delhi, India at 08:30a.m., a man in his forties was getting ready for work when his bedroom window flung opened with a gust of wind and a cupboard door also opened with force spilling vermilion (sindoor) on the floor from the dressing table, and scattering some bangles and woman’s sarees on the floor from the cupboard. The man immediately ran to close the window and clear the mess. Holding upturned sindoor box in his hand, the man’s eyes shimmered with tears saying, “MISHTY TUM KAHAAN HO? Abb aur mujhe naa tadpao. Mere paas wapis aa jaao.” (Mishty where are you? Now don’t torture me any longer. Please come back to me.)

Just then there was a knock on the door and a youngman walked in. “Bhai, Commissioner Pradyuman aap se milne aayen hain.” (Bhai, Commissioner Pradyuman has come to meet you.)

“Tum chalo Arnav, mai aata hoon.” (Arnav, you carry on I’ll just come.)

Great start. So neelakshi is a body double for geet ehnor is she actually geet. Why else will her stuff be there in neelakshi bedroom
