MANEET FF: AGAR TUM SAATH HO

CHAPTER 1

The sun peeked out of the dark skies, the birds chirped and soared through the fresh morning sky. Same time a young man in his late twenties was working out maintain his well chiseled body. He heard a knock which made him loose his balance. He saw the servant holding a tray with a glass of juice with his hands trembling in shiver. He started sipping it after dismissing the servant and soon his grandmother entered the room with a smirk on her face. She was one person who had him wrapped around her finger.

"Maan, even today you want to sweat and waste your energy or what" and winked at him

He placed his hands on her shoulders and she shrugged them off complaining he was sweating.

"Daadi, it's a must today. After all I would need all the energy and be even more fit" and winked back at her, Unknown to him his face had turned a light shade of scarlet which did not go unnoticed by his grandmother. She also noticed his face which had pain and also knew he was smiling just for her.

"Beta trust me. I agree you have a past and one needs to get over it with time. For now stay calm and I am sure she will make your life colorful. Also your parents came back last night" advised his grandmother.

The last line brought a genuine smile on his face. He walked in to his room and entered the bathroom to freshen up himself reminiscing the day he met her first.

He entered her house along with his parents and grandmother the house wasn't huge like his mansion but was decently big. They looked like a close knit family. His parents and her parents along with a few elders were talking about their family and not once did they mention her neither his parents took her name while he sat buy with his phone answering to mails and replying to messages. After a few minutes he felt his mother shaking him and that when he saw her standing before him. She had her hair clipped and was clad in a pinkish violet saree and her face looked as bright as the sun but nervousness enveloped her face. After a brief introduction she was sent back to her room and he noticed her mother whispering something in her ears. Her already pink face turned red and her eyes lowered.

Within minutes she disappeared and his mother warned him in to his ears. His body stiffened and he ran his hands through his hair. He was led to her room and her cousin knocked the already opened door kind of warning her. Both were sitting opposite to one another and the door was half closed he was gazing at her. He wanted to share his past with her but her hazel shaped eyes, long hair and her slender fingers made him to loose himself in her. She was no less. She had dreamt of a getting married to a man who would be pher knight in shining armor. His perfectly chiseled body, his 5Pm stubble and his deep voice which she heard when he entered her house made her heart skip beats. Her throat felt dry.

He cleared his throat and she mouthed a simple prayer to her Babaji and responded to him

"I studied at a convent school in Chandigarh before moving to Delhi with my family and completed my degree in architecture"

Whatever spoke never seem to register in his head. He wanted to share his past but her soothing voice was something else. Like a teenager he instead how would it be to hear his name in his voice. He rubbished those silly thoughts from his head and the expression on his face changed which kind of startled her. Seeing her puzzled face, he calmed himself down

"Ummm I want to ..." and before he could complete they heard a knock in the door. She immediately got up from the chair but he asked her to sit and he checked the door only to find their parents standing with a smile plastered on their face and he saw a worried expression in his mother's eyes. He took one last look at her and walked down with his parents. Her parents waited for them to move out and asked for an opinion. She smiled at them and even before she could say she wanted to know more about him her parents assumed and expressed their opinion to go ahead with the proposal. She had come down with their parents and both their eyes met. He noticed how hesitant she was cos he really had not spoken anything and his parents were already in love with her. After a positive nod from both sides it was decided the wedding would be held in a week as his parents had to get back to London.

He was brought back to the present when he heard his phone ring. He quickly pat himself dry and walked out getting ready for his wedding. His parents entered his room giving him a tight hug. This was something he missed. His father in spite of being in his sixties preferred managing their London office leaving him to handle the other offices. Their London office was the first and closest to his father's heart and since his mother wanted to be by her husband's side more both had to stay away from his son once he started working. Since then it was always his grandmother with him. She started being his confidant, support and literally found his life in her. Though he had a brother and sister he was never very close to them cos they were younger.

Meanwhile, in the other end of Delhi the situation was different. They had not really spoken with each other but there was something about him which made her feel so protective about the whole relation. She inhaled the mehendi and her eyes spotted his name in her hand. She blushed at just reading it and today was the big day. She felt butterflies in her stomach. Initially she was upset that she couldn't talk and know much about him. She prayed to her babaji every day and wanted her decision to be the right one. But after a point she decided to trust who she prayed and the person who would be her husband. The word husband made her eyes dreamy and her heart to thud faster. She brushed her thoughts and got ready for Haldi.

Later, they had reached the wedding hall and she was inside the room getting ready in her wedding lehenga. All had left her in the room with a couple of cousins when they heard the groom's family had arrived. She soon came down with her cousin who were nudging her on either sides making her to look at him. He saw her walking down so elegantly and majestically in spite of the heavy dress she was wearing. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her waist which was exposed. A sense of possessiveness reached his eyes and did not want any one including her cousin to notice her any portion of exposed skin. His cousins carried him on their shoulders and her uncles and a couple of cousin carried her and both exchanged garlands when the whole crowd applauded. The ritual was followed with kanyadhan and then the saath phere. Both stood together and touched their parent's feet. She experienced a very different feeling when she stood next to him. At some point of time she wanted to stand in one corner and just stare at the man's eyes whom she got married to. Soon they were all preparing for Bidaai. That was when she experienced his actual care. He had decided to keep his past aside and be there just for her on their wedding day. He held her by her shoulders trying to be her strength when she had to leave her family, brother and cousins. After an emotional farewell both sat inside the car and his hands refused to leave her. He had them wrapped around her and he rubbed her arms and stroked her hair through the entire journey. She closed her eyes tight when tears did not look like stopping anytime soon. She slipped slowly on his shoulders trying to control her emotions.

Soon they reached the place and he tapped her gently. She opened her eyes and her face flushed when she found her head rested on his chest. His breath grazed her forehead making her skin turn warm. They both walked in to the house together and his mother performed the Grahapravesh and soon other rituals followed. His sister and Brother's wife decked her once again and helped her sit in the centre of the bed and pulled the veil in front just covering her face teasing her.

An interesting start. Both wanted to know more of each other but things happened so quickly. I wonder what Maans past holds and hope it doesn't affect their new relationship.
