Chapter 5
After two weeks...
She saw him lost in thoughts or rather he was in different world when she entered the room. He appeared in his dazed form only when he thought about his Ex. The mere notion made her feel disgusted but then she had to stay strong. It was then she realized that she had to meet her and she has neither made an attempt to call her. In the bed, he was lost in his wife's thoughts. He has been day dreaming about her off late and his thoughts were clouded with Sam's ouch Sameera he felt. Something even which his grandmother couldn't do. She asked him to forget her, asked him to stop referring to her as Sam. Well, her grandmother did not like the name because it had ruined his grandson's life. She had tried reasoning with him about her presence so early in his life. She even argued that it wasn't true love. She clearly had not understood the meaning of it. She even asked him to once ask her if she is willing to move to a far off place but he did not have the courage to ask her. He wondered if things would have been different. He saw his wife entering from the corner of his eye but for once he did not allow her disturb his thoughts. He sighed and got out of his thoughts and saw her walking out of the room. He did not want to face her again and unnecessarily change his thoughts or anything about his ex. He quickly slid down the bed adjusted the duvet over him and closed his eyes thinking about some random meeting tomorrow waiting for sleep to evade his thoughts.
She played with the contacts and literally wanted to toss a coin if she should call Sameera or not. She was fighting with him or rather just started. She had two options with him one go very hard with him and look for every tiny little thing that reminded of his Ex and change him or else Sameera was just a phone call away. She was afraid. What if the first option backfires or even better what if Sameera was waiting for a chance to talk with him again. She sat down on the sofa in frustration and whispered a silent prayer to her babaji and dialed her number. She convinced herself to take up both. She would make him forget all about her and also get Sameera to talk to him. She hesitated seeing the clock but then time had really gone by. Finally, with all her might she called her up and heard the phone ring on the other side.
Geet heard a woman with a sexy and not so heavy voice attend the call
"Hello, this is Sameera" and there was a long pause. It was then Geet reminded that she had to speak. She slapped her forehead and tried speaking everything at once without giving the lady on the other side a chance
"Hi, this is Geet here I mean Geet Handa sorry Geet Khurana ouch Geet Maan Singh Khuarana. I don't think more explanation is required. It's just that we really need to meet. I am not exactly sure where you are stationed but then I can travel rest assured this would be a short one. Like please" and she pleaded
"Geet, I am sorry but I have nothing to give you" she spoke curtly.
"I do not want anything from you. It's just 15 minutes of your time" she requested again.
"But the condition is he shouldn't be around. If that's the case you can come over to Mumbai and I will come over to meet you wherever you intend staying" told Sameera and hung up the call.
She threw her phone on the sofa in frustration. "How dare she? And Wait Mr. Maan Singh Khurana ..! Once you are mine I will make you pay for every bit of this phone call" and smiled at herself with mischievous thoughts. She kept cursing under her breath and walked in to her room and saw him sprawled over the entire bed. She moved it aside a bit rudely and settled herself in bed to sleep.
Next day morning was a usual one but she had so much to arrange. She quickly booked her tickets and excused herself home saying she had a conference for 3 to 4 days in Mumbai and will be back once it's done. He had agreed to drop her on daadima's existence and she was now in her room packing stuffs. He called for Nakul to help her carry the bag and she hugged daadima tightly trying to sooth her racing heart and left for Mumbai. He dropped her at the airport and wheeled the baggage for her till the entrance
"Geet, you wouldn't need to stay in any hotel. I had cancelled your hotel reservations and instead made arrangements at our guest house" and looked at her if she felt any bad for staying away from him. He definitely had not tried working on the relationship yet and felt this space would give him some time to linearize his thoughts.
"Hmm yea ok" was all that she answered and locked her eyes with his trying to find some kind of emotion in those bland ones. She never realized but then she saw him lunging forward taking her in a hug. She tried staying in it as much as she could trying to absorb all the heat from the very first hug they shared. His hands moved on their own and ran his hands over her hair and cupped her face
"Take care Geet" and this time his tone and eyes spoke a new emotion.
She smiled at him with tears welling up and said "You too" with a heavy voice and made her way in to the airport. He drove back and did not have the heart to go back to work or home. He drove aimlessly and stopped at a very secluded place. He sat near a tiny pond on the floor with his legs folded up to his chest and threw small pebbles in to the water and once again his thoughts took him on a ride.
There was a time when he tried really hard to make Sameera his girlfriend. She wasn't the classy types but definitely her body was something that allured him. He started having friendly conversations with her and felt she was never bad. In fact she turned out to be smart which attracted him more. They had regular fights but patched up after luring her with date and in turn she kissed him and patched up with him. Beyond that their relation never crossed any limits. He remembered the semester holidays which stirred a kind of fear in his heart and it all turned out true when he heard from some of her friends that she took a break from her masters. Her very close friend told him about whatever she faced back home. His parents never bothered about society and all they cared was for his happiness but somewhere all the official work had separated them all emotionally. So he dreaded to even share this with them. But his dad was always step ahead of him and tabbed on his personal life during his studies. He was too overwhelmed when his father called and enquired about his girlfriend. His father very dearly requested him to rest everything and even promised to get her for him once he achieved something. None of this looked wrong to him but her sudden demand made him loose his temper. They just had their conversation over phone. She asked him to quit everything and come behind her or else forget her forever. He had tried convincing her so much but her father's demand startled him. Either he walks out of his family or else she would not be able to continue her studies in the same university. All of this looked too heavy for him. He simply rejected her saying his parents and career were important for now. After a couple of years, as promised his father looked in to Sameera and when he found she was working his father contacted her parents but they rejected them saying it's too late. His parents even contacted Sameera but she refused to even talk with them let alone listen to what they had to say. It was since then his parents asked him to forget her and move on. They weren't wrong at all. This whole thing instilled bad notions. Initially, he wasn't sure whether Geet will be the right person who would stand as the thread between him and his parents who were staying miles apart. But then Geet proved him wrong. It was after their heated argument in office he started taking a close look at Geet. She managed to stay in touch with his parents more than him. He was surprised when he saw his wife and siblings were involved in board games with bets along with his daadi. Her parents neither interfered and in fact her father spoke to him every other day more than his father enquiring about his wellbeing. He was more than overwhelmed to receive such love. Today her sudden trip brought in a vacuum in his heart which Sameera had failed to bring. It was then he realized even without making any efforts she had managed to make her way in his heart and he wasn't sure if she even felt for him the same way. Every time he thought about the way she made him call Sam as Sameera a possessive smile enveloped his face. He was guilty for ruining Sameera's life in the beginning and did not wanted Geet to be the person in his life before he came in terms with his broken past. He wanted to amend these now. He decided to bring her to the same place where he realized it all and share everything and start their relationship in every sense.
