People have started making it personal so let me clear that Sanjana has brought up a generalised issue and not personal. She raised something which is already spoken about but hadn't reached any solution.

Let me sum up them so people will focus again on issues.
1.) Lack of response from readers, here we intend to know the exact reason for this matter from both POVs.

2.) A request to read any FF or ss with an open, broad, unprejudiced mind set. Readers should not be biased towards any of the leads/ protagonists.

3.) Demanding only maaneet scenes and sidelining the supporting cast or characters in a story.

4.) If someone is unhappy with the way any ff or ss is going then no lashing out on writers or characters instead feel free to move on from that FF or ss!

I hope I'm able to summaries all issues here, forgive if not!

My personal opinion is readers should respond to stories which they are reading and liking. If they can appreciate the story in their minds then they can definitely put it in words as well. No harm in doing that, it will rather help you discover your writing skills too.

It is very important to be unbiased and have an broad mind set to read any piece of writing because if your mind is already clouded with certain thoughts then you are bound to be typecast. No one can enjoy a story or even a movie if they are not open to all ideas! One needs to understand that not everyone has similar thinking about everything. It is writer's creative liberty which should be respected. Please understand that a writer's POV or ideas are always influenced by his/her geographic and demographic conditions, so a conflict of thinking can be there but that doesn't mean that someone who disagree with writer's idea would start lashing out and abuses story or characters. You always have the option to leave!

Sweetie, I have seen your many comments on various FFs here and I have always noticed that you are always fussing over something or other. I haven't exactly seen you appreciating any ff or ss for that matter! You always have plenty of complaints regarding every story or writer and I just can't decipher the reason behind this behaviour. I can see where you are coming from. You might have been brought up in a atmosphere where women are being looked down upon, treated as trash or something. You might have been taught that women are just a pleasurable article or thing for men to use and enjoy and that women have no say in it. You might be coming from somewhere, where women arw deprived of their rights and freedom but let metell you that not everyone comes from same background as yours! I am a girl born in Rajasthan, but I never been deprived of anything. I'm a working woman now in national capital living alone!I'm self dependent and I absolutely take no shit from anyone. I make my own decisions and live life on my terms. So, please wake up! We are talking about women empowerment, women's uplifting in society, getting them their rights and equality and if you keep such thinkingthen it is very unfortunate. Itis really unfortunate that you yourself are being a hurdle in your own development. It is important to change your mind set. And please let me remind you that India is country which had produced legends like Rani Laxmibai, Sarojini Naidu, Lata Mangeshkar, Indira Gandhi, Sushmita Sen and many more and they are, in all senses, pride of the nation. So, sweetie if you don't agree with our thoughts than please move on!

In the prologue itself I lost half my readership of The Locket because Dev and Geet were shown happy together. For every character that was introduced It was rejection after rejection but I was determined and like you, stubborn😆to do it my way. It was my work and no one else's input mattered. I don't reason or bargain or negotiate with anyone. Nahi padhna hai toh mat padho. It hurt a bit at first but I am not made of wax to crumble so easily.

In fact my dearest friend here was bashed and told to go kill herself by a reader after MG split up in her story. Not only did I personally report the person but I got everyone together to give her a tongue lashing. Alas, mannerless people abound in all walks of life as we see here.

Writers who give of their time and efforts are severely undervalued. My entire writing is done after 11pm in addtion to working 6 days a week and living abroad without any servants or help. The Locket was over 1100 pages long. I have lost sleep for my passion of writing.

Sure there are the one word commenters with their awesome or good or no maaneet in this part. On the counter side we get someone like you too. For such readers, I would gladly write. 🤗

I am glad I did read The Locket, not once but twice. 😉 It is one of my most fave MG FF mostly cos of the second leads and subplots. And I am more happy that you wrote this FF your way. I like that you are stubborn like me. 😆 Cos I really can't imagine it otherwise. I can't imagine this story without DevTara or Megha-Kabir or Poonam-Chandan or Adi-Pinky or even Sujal-Kashish. Hell even Brij. 🤣

@bold: I am shocked. 😲 Readers dont even understand where to draw a line. THIS is the reason why I made this post Avi. Those personal attacks on writers in their thread or even in pms.

@italics: They are Avi. I have come to know that most of the writers are married or working. Very few comes in students category. So just like how readers have life, writers have too. Then there are readers who come in threads and demand for update when they aren't even regular commenters. Seen it myself so so many times.

Now that Chura Liya is completed, I am waiting for your new story. 😉

Being a reader I can say only thing don't read any story if you don't have time to comment for that one
Nowadays I am not reading any story because of my new born baby as I know that I will not be able to comment on that and reading any story at this point means I am gonna miss commenting on stories which I don't want as writers are doing lot of hard work to write one update and I solely believes that we should appreciate every writers work whose we are reading
And about writers I can tell you story about my baby ( one of writers here ) . When she used to write on GF , the response was not good but when she shifted her stories to blog , her inbox flooded with pm asking for password even from those whom she has never saw on her thread
Why should Geet be always a sati savitri type ?? Its not written anywhere that writers have to show Geet as like that . Its their opinion what they want to show or not . Readers can avoid if they don't like such stories instead of bashing

Whenever Maan has done anything people try to understand him and give justifications but the moment Geet does something she is judged. That's the saddest part since mostly the readers are women themselves.

I can only hope that readers try to accept Geet in different roles and characteristics as well. Girls can be flawed too. No girl is perfect in this world and she has done her fair share of mistakes. The moment one readers realizes this simple fact and stop seeing girls as perfectionist and mahaanta ki murat, it will be much more easier for everyone.

exactly my point. We are humans and mistake is part of everyone. So why this partiality. I am not supporting ki insan ko galtiya karni chahiye. I am only saying when Girls readers support Maan then they should accept Geet as well. Geet b human being hai koi Devi nahi or Humans commit mistakes. Every story based on differen theam. So enjoy it rather then pin pointing writer. Maan or Geet both potrayed like story demands. Thats it.

nice thread and it's all this questions have been in my mind too...

1. As a writer it would be nice to have better likes and cmnts at the start itself for that gives us more energy...and the readers can't expect the plot in the prologue itself...that would kill the suspense...so readers do like and cmnt whenever a writer starts a story,,,,,,,,that will encourage the writer to write better...

2.As far as sub-plots are concerned even I keep them brief for this is GF and I understand we are here for MG, and of course we love them more...

3.I think they cmnt on what they like more as writers will give them that more...haina?

4.About Maan and Geet characters, I also don't understand why writers often portray Maan in the Grey shades and that's what readers love too!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why people still fancy -ve Maan while our GHSP MSK is the perfect gentleman, he may be rude but his logic abt women are more or less real for a typical woman, he only hates to see them going weak and giving excuses and letting the men dominate them always, even Geet got the courage to put Brij behind the bars after Maan's advice only...only then she quit her family and came to Delhi...

And we all bashed the GHSP team when Geet forgave Dev, and why now they are happy to see Geet forgiving Maan when Maan commits the same mistake...MSK is a character and not a mere name,just b'coz it's MSK we can't be blindly loving him...

And for Geet's character to be experimented is a good idea...I'll try it later...

But I try to keep Maan and Geet's characters close to GHSP as that's what I love, we love and that's something I don't want to let go off...I try to relive GHSP agian and again and try to make my Maan and Geet think like the GHSP Maneet...

5. that's what I also want to know, being MSK is not a license to do whatever he wants and still be the hero, haina?

But I always don't like Maan being -ve and still he is the most wanted lover, and wonder why the readres that too girls love Maan to be a Casanova but are obsessed with Geet's virginity(Maan accpeted Geet with her child in GHSP which is what made him different) else she doesn't deserve Maan, I would prefer virginity but that should apply for Maan too...

6.Geet's virginity...I want my Geet to respect Indian culture and it's not for her to go out of the way...it's OK if she is not at fault like in GHSP...but want to keep Geet's character more Indian for this is after all IF and the readers are very young and should not be misguided in the name of equality and women's liberation...that's my personnel opinion...

Well, that's the first thing that came to my mind (I don't know why) reading your thread. I mean, on one level it was funny that you enlisted every point I had ever thought about consciously or unconsciously since a while. Especially the one about other characters except Maan and Geet...and the comments being two worded.
Touch wood, I've had some really loyal readers who always come back to read and leave genuine comments. They tell me upfront what they like or don't and frankly I like it more when they honestly tell me what they don't like. There lies my real victory; in making them not like something.

What you said about the ever enduring character war of Maan and Geet is not actually theirs but of a man and a woman, their expected perceived roles in society. Since what we write is a reflection more or less of the society we come from I think unknowingly the need to have a submissive, shy, virgin, beautiful Geet dominates and Amy deviation into grey shades makes readers sit up and question their own sensibilities of right and wrong. This is because the media has projected a certain image of a nice woman and a man.

A boy is said to grow into a man when he starts attracting girls attention, starts flirting with them, becomes promiscuous in his sexuality. They call it coming of age.
When a girl comes of age, she is told to hide her cycle days, keep away, conserve her sexuality and never even dare to explore her sexuality. Those ones who choose to give caution to these social winds end up beating the brunt of their wrath.
Why Geet (girl) is not accepted as a grey character?
Simply because we have been so weighed down by social dogmas and acceptances of gender stereotypes that we aren't ready to open our eyes to 'reality'

I think this was a brave topic you explored here and it is a commendable effort.

I could be termed a hypocrite here maybe because the Geet I am currently writing about isn't a sex creature. But I think in her own way, considering the circumstances she has been through, she has walked away from social dogmas.

And maybe some day when I have another idea for another story, I will try and show my readers that there is a Geet who is selfish and sexual and casual and care free and she is so good. Because she is herself.
