CHAPTER 7. TO THE SAFETY!
Dev growled in anger as the report of Geet slipping out of his men's hands reached him early morning. He ordered them to search the Jungle but he had feeling that she would have escaped by the time his men scoured the entire Jungle. Geet was already resourceful just by herself but add to the mix, her smart sister Rajji and a stranger ready to fight, finding Geet would be like finding a needle in the haystack. But what Geet did not know was how much determined Dev was to find her. He would move heaven or earth but he would bring the girl back to Hoshiarpur and marry her. She had refused him and by her refusal she had insulted him in front of the whole Village. He had to take revenge and make an example out of her in front of the Villagers or pretty soon they would stop fearing him too and he would become a laughing stock in front of them. And that is something Dev never wanted! Geet Handa! Dev glared at Geet's picture in his hand. Tu jitthe bhi chali ja main tennu chaddaanga nahi! He struck a match and burned the picture.
It was early morning when the three stragglers started their procession towards the nearest town. As they marched to their destination, Geet continued to glance at Maan every now and then. She did not know why but from the moment they joked about marriage the day before, Geet started seeing Maan in different light. He already had her spellbound with his protector's avatar but seeing him joking and laughing brought a different side of him out. Geet was not sure but she had an inkling that she might be falling for him. But for once, she was not scared of this feeling. Infact, she was sure that falling for such a man would make her proud as Maan was a person worth falling in love with.
In the next two hours, they crossed the Jungle, ghats and reached the town. In few minutes, Maan had called his Office and another Jeep was ready for his travel. They climbed the jeep and drove off in the direction of Dilli. Maan sat in the driver's seat with Geet sitting beside him and Rajji sat in the back with both the girls chirping and chattering constantly. Maan also gave his input when needed but mostly he concentrated on driving. After few hours of travel and a break for Lunch, Rajji went to sleep while Geet remained staring ahead in silence. After few minutes, Maan murmured, "Tum sona chaaho toh so sakti ho!" Geet looked at him askance as she was pulled out of her thoughts by Maan's words. As the words penetrated through her head, she smiled softly but refused, "Nahi! Woh... jab tak hum Dilli nahi pahunchenge mujhe neend nahi aayegi!" Maan frowned, "Par tum toh raat bhar bhi nahi soyi!" Geet shrugged, "Main jab tak Dilli nahi pahunchungi mujhe Dev ka darr sone nahi dega!" Maan nodded and they drove in silence. As he drove, Maan noticed Geet being silent and looking sad. Till Rajji was awake, her chatter had deviated both the girls' minds away from their family's death but now it seemed Geet was relieving them. Maan wondered what he could do to divert her mind. Then his mind fell on the radio and he smiled. Generally he hated music but right now he would not mind it as long as Geet's mind was diverted.
Geet stared out of the jeep looking at the passing scenery when piano notes flew through the air. She looked at Maan in confusion only to see him adjusting the radio. Her eyes widened as she realized that Maan was putting on radio just for her. She looked at him surprised by his thoughtfulness while Maan continued fiddling with the knob of radio trying to fine tune the wavelength.
Kaun Mera
Mera Kya Tu Laage
Geet stared at him as she remembered his promise to deliver them safely to Dilli.
Kyun Tu Baandhe
Mann Se Mann Ke Dhaage
Her heart hammered in her chest as her eyes met his.
Bas Chale Naa Kyun Mera Tere Aage
Geet looked outside taking deep breaths trying to calm her racing heart.
Kaun Mera
Mera Kya Tu Laage
She closed her eyes enjoying the wind. Maan focused on his driving.
Kyun Tu Baandhe
Mann Se Mann Ke Dhaage
Geet could never forget the way they met; her begging him to help her and him refusing to help. But his refusal had sparked the rebel in her and she had fought the goons bravely. Geet smiled as she remembered him fighting with the goons when they became difficult for her to handle. A truck came from the front right towards them and Maan had to swerve sharply to the left. Geet grabbed Maan's arm tightly in fear.
Chhod Kar Na Tu Kahin Bhi Door Ab Jaana
Tujhko Kasam Hai
Maan applied the brake and the car came to stop. Maan feeling Geet's grip looked at her.
Saath Rehna Jo Bhi Hai Tu
Jhooth Ya Sach Hai, Ya Bharam Hai
Maan pressed his hand on her hand trying to assure her that everything was alright.
Apna Banaane Ka Jatan Kar Hi Chuke Ab Toh
Geet smiled at him and he smiled back.
Baiyyaan Pakad Kar Aaj Chal
Main Du Bata Sabko
Geet's eyes widened as the song's lyrics penetrated her brain. Geet pulled her hand away and looked down while Maan looked away awkwardly.
Kaun Mera
Mera Kya Tu Laage
Geet turned to look at Maan as Maan started driving.
Kyun Tu Baandhe
Mann Se Mann Ke Dhaage
She smiled at him tenderly as she wished the time stood still and she could stare at Maan forever.
Bas Chale Naa Kyun Mera Tere Aage
Maan gave her a glance and Geet looked away with a shy smile on her lips.
Kaun Mera
Mera Kya Tu Laage
It was few hours later when they reached Dilli, and one more hour before they reached Pinky's house. Rajji, who had woken an hour back, stared wide eyed at the house. She had never believed that they will be able to escape the Khuranas even though she was the one who encouraged her sister to run. But now as she stared at the one storey house of the Manchandas she felt tears well up in her eyes. She was safe! She was safe from the Khuranas! And most importantly her sister was safe from Dev! She looked at her sister and noticed that her sister too was looking at the house in the same way. After few seconds, Geet came out of her thoughts and they got down from the Jeep. Maan helped them with their bags and then Rajji thanked Maan with nothing but praise for him. Maan waved her compliments away and told her to live her life to the fullest. She nodded and dragged the bags towards the house wanting to give privacy to her sister and Maan. Maan and Geet turned towards each other and smiled awkwardly. Now that the journey was over both did not know what to say. As they looked around awkwardly, Geet wished that she had the guts to tell Maan that she was starting to have feelings for him. Maan looked at her and smiled softly and for a second Geet felt her hope rise that maybe Maan felt the same for her. But Maan broke her hopes by saying, "Goodbye! Take care! Chalta hoon!" Geet disappointedly nodded and waved him bye. She bent down to pick her bags only to notice that Rajji had already taken them away. Maan got into his jeep and started the engine. Geet walked towards the house only to stop when Maan said, "Geet! Suno!" Geet turned around wide eyed at him. Maan smiled at her tenderly, "Call jaroor karna!" When Maan realized what he said and how it could be construed he frowned and spoke sternly, "Job ke liye!" Geet nodded and smiled. She had forgotten that he had promised her job. Suddenly, the sadness she was feeling for leaving him, went away as she realized that they could still meet again. She walked towards the house with a spring in her step. Maan drove off as Geet rang the bell. The door opened and a chubby girl with a burger in her hand looked at them confusedly. Geet smiled and spoke, "Hi! Tum Pinky ho na? Main Geet hoon aur yeh Rajji! Pehchaana?" The girl frowned for a second, "Geet? Rajji?" And then her eyes widened and she let out a squeal. She hugged a shocked Geet and then hugged an equally shocked Rajji. She dragged both the girls in while hollering for her father.
It was midnight when Geet, Rajji and Pinky sat on Geet's bed in guest room. Rajji had her head in Geet's lap while Pinky popped in a chocolate into her mouth. Geet had just narrated the whole story of what happened to her and how she was saved. Pinky was looking at her wide eyed as Geet ended her narration with telling her how Maan had saved them and brought them here. Geet thought that Pinky was shocked due to all the horror which happened with Geet. But when Pinky opened her mouth, Geet was proven wrong, "Tujhe Maan Singh Khurana ne bachaaya?" Geet rolled her eyes. Ae le lo! Mere saath yeh sab hua us se isko koi jhatka nahi pahuncha! Maan ne mujhe bachaaya uska ise shock laga! But then that was Pinky! She was not there to feel the horror which Geet went through. For her, this was more of a fairy tale and less of a reality. Brought up in a city like Dilli, Pinky did not know what a girl in a village went through before she even hit 20. Pinky spoke again, "Tujhe pata bhi hai tu kiske saath aayi?" Geet looked at her in confusion, "Kiske saath?" "DD ke saath!", Pinky mumbled dreamily, "Mr. Dhak Dhak ke saath!" Seeing Pinky's sappy expression, both Rajji and Geet burst out laughing. Pinky frowned at them, "Are! Has kya rahe ho? Sab unhein office mein Dhak Dhak hi bulaate hain!" Geet looked at her amused, "Office?" Pinky nodded, "Aur nahi toh kya? Mere Office ke boss hain woh! Main Khurana Constructions ki receptionist jo hoon!" While Geet's eyes widened, Rajji sat up on the bed excitedly, "Sachchi? Phir toh Geet Didi apne Maan se jald hi mil legi!" Rajji nudged Geet and Geet blushed. Geet did not know that she was so transparent that even Rajji could see through her and understand her feelings. And the night passed with Pinky and Rajji teasing Geet about Maan and talking about things they could do in Dilli.
TRIVIA
The song is from the movie Special Chabbis (Year 2013) There are three version of this song; two female and one male. Both the female ones have same lyrics but the male one is different. This is the female one. Out of two versions, one is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and other by Chaitra Ambadipuri. Even though Sunidhi is an acclaimed singer, I would suggest listening to Chaitra because her version is sung more beautifully!
I am off to recheck Chapter 8 once! Till then why don't you all enjoy the title track and the song in this chapter! And comment on the banner and the title track!
