Behind the Mask
I could not believe that the woman standing in front of mirror is so beautiful. Meera did a wonderful job on me. Perhaps Valentine's day party was going to be a success after all. Taking a deep breath I stepped outside the house and the cool breeze hit my face refreshing all my precious memories of him.
I have spent most of my life behind the books, in my creative world, which left me 'single' in my life. Meera was the only one who understood my heart behind the books. My chestnut brown hair had been tugged back in soft ringlets, pulled back into a bun and curled stiff with hairspray while held in place by pins. Strands still escaped to seductively caress her bare shoulders. My hazel eyes were perfectly outlined in black, dramatically kissing the hazel orbs . My face was glowing with naturally adorned blush that was left to be seen as I pulled the mask on over the upper half of my face.
The gown I wore was soft, the brown shimmering in the lights. Silver gloves covered till elbows. From my hips the gown flared out slightly so that when she dance it will swirl around elegantly. Brown heels adorned my feet even though no one could see it.
I was looking calm outside but my insides were bubbled up with nervousness. Meer promised me that she will make sure to make him come. But I wonder will he come there on this valentine's nite. He could be busy with Samantha, his girlfriend.
Meer was dating Veer for than one year and they were the only people who knew abt her silent love for him.
As I entered the party hall my breath hitched in throat. the whole hall was looking quite romantic. Everything was red, the frills hanging in the wall, the heart shaped balloons floating on air, and the candles lit in the table added more ambience to it.
I spot meer and veer dancing on slow music looking at each other lovingly. They dint wore mask just b/c they are not single. It was party's rule that whoever is single should wear a mask. Meer was looking so beautiful. Her grey eyes were slightly filled with make up and her brown hair were tucked back with a red flower to hold them in place. Her dress was blood red and was floating like a wave as she danced and swirled. Yash was too complementing her by wearing black suit and a red tie. His light blue eyes were filled with pure love for meer. As a whole the couple was looking dashing.
Geet.. thankgod! U came.. I thot u backed out last minute.
Her voice brought me out of thots and the next minute she was hugging me with all her love.
Maan has been here for almost an hour now. I dunno where he will be.
That's good. He won't noe I m even here. May be then he will notice this unknown girl.

Yash said dramatically making us smile. But they r still unknown to the fact that sam and maan are together. I was the one who witnessed sam kissing him in library.

I started to walk towards counter but at the sametime crowd enveloped me and the music started to blast in ears. I was bumping and knocking almost all persons in my way, all the while muttering an apology.

The familiar voice made me halt my steps. Turning back I met with one of the most dazzling smiles. His perfect shaped M lips added the beauty of that smile. Eventhough his face covered with mask, I wonder y when he has a girlfriend, I could recognize the owner of chocolate brown eyes. His greek god like body showing muscles and those hairs which is gelled up in hot way made my mouth water.
Shaking my thots I dropped my gaze to the dress her wore. He was dressed in black aside from the silver and black tie that was about his neck.
And y is that so?
Because the crowd is so involved in music that they tend to forget, they may hurt some one.
I gave him a smile and was about to go when his next set of words stopped me.
I thot I would get a chance to dance with this beautiful lady.
But I..
Before I could react the music changed into a soft one and his hands was on my waist, softly guiding me to dance floor.
I noe no one can deny a hot guy like me..
Over confident huh?
He dint react to my remark but pulled my body closely to his. His breath was fanning my face and his hand was resting on the small of my back as if I am a fragile doll. He still dint realize with whom he is dancing. Otherwise he wouldn't have looked at me. May be this will be the only chance I can c him closely. Taking a deep breathe I met his gaze to find him staring intently at me.
U looks so familiar..
Those words nearly gave me a heart attack. He will get so angry if he noes its me. why would a guy who is hot, champion in basket ball, that had girls nearly falling over themselves notice a girl who is nerd and not so beautiful. He is dancing with me only because he can't c my face.
I don't think so..
As the song slowed down, he led me out of his dance floor. I dint question him since I want to live this moment with him completely. He stopped suddenly and I felt a cold breeze. We were in balcony and I can c the garden decorated with lights and the paths adorned with candles. I hugged myself feeling the air getting more chilled.
Maan took his jacket and draped it around my shoulders. My body stiffened and I noe he felt it too.
Don't worry.. I m not going to do anything..
I m not. Its just that I dint expect that.
He sighed.
Your date will be waiting for u.
I chuckled at his words. Me and date!!
Did u forget the rule? Mask means no date!!
His smile brightened.
Then come with me.
He held out his hand and I stared at it for a moment. Smiling lightly I placed my hand in his and he led me to the garden.
U look beautiful tonight.
He whispered huskily. I laughed and looked into his eyes.
Thanku. U look handsome too..
He stopped in middle of the garden and looked around as If ensuring that there is no one present.
Can we remove our masks?
I gasped. I was thinking all the worst thots like hw will he react after revealing my face. May b he won't look at me. But as meer said I want him to noe my feelings for once. Take a chance. Live life for the opportunities. Taking a deep breathe I said
On one condition.. , a kiss to reveal my face.
Grinning he nodded excitedly

He neared me fanning his breath on my face. I dreamt of these days earlier but seeing it come true made me more nervous. He placed his lips on mine and brushed it gently. He was about to pull away when I pulled him by collar and crushed my lips eagerly and passionately. I wanted to show all my love thru this kiss. His arms wrapped around my waist and crushed me into his embrace. It was becoming intense but I noe every good thing has come to an end. I sighed pulling back slowly. I took another step back to create as much distance as possible noeing our moment of togetherness is going to end.
U have never noticed me, but I have always loved u Maan..
I pulled out the mask with a sad smile.
I m so sorry.
I ran back without waiting to c his expression. He will be so angry and disappointed seeing me.
Geet.. wait..
I was surprised to hear my name from him but decided to ignore.
Damn geet.. wait..
He grabbed my arms and spun me around and I saw a pair of furious eyes, just as I imagined. I looked down not able to meet those furious eyes and I saw his mask thrown to the ground.
Do u think I would have asked a complete stranger for a dance? I all the while knew who u are. Ur eyes helped me to recognize. I came here knowing u will be here, knowing this will be my last chance. But I wonder why would a girl like u will ever give me a chance? U were always so brilliant and a creative writer who don't even noe my existence.
I was stunned at the revelation. He started to walk away but then turned sideways.
I just want u. I want to hold u when it rains, kiss u senseless when u chew ur lip in nervousness, brush ur hair when u think something so deeply..
I dint let him finish his words but hugged him from back tightly. I felt like I got my world back hearing his confession. The guy I thot will never be mine has become mine forevers on this valentine night. He slowly turned and I stepped back gazing his eyes intently. he held his hand out.
Will u be my valentine?
Nodding, I threw myself into his arms.
I never thot this day will come.
