• Love is always patient and kind - Maan lost his cool when he witnessed Geet and Dev apparently happy playing holi and said some very unkind words.
  

• Love is never jealous - Deep down he harboured some jealousy against Dev. All said and done he was the only man who had been intimate with Geet. Although he trusted Geet, he could not help feeling uncomfortable in the presence of Dev.
  

• Love is not boastful or conceited - He prided in his impeccable Khurana lineage which tolerates no wrong.
  

• It is never rude and never seeks its own advantage - He called his wife shameless for having forgiven the man who defrauded and used her. While he may not have been seeking his own advantage, I think that he subconsciously hoped that if Geet remained unforgiving, his own insecurities would be reduced.
  

• It does not take offence or store up grievances - Maan took offence of Geet's ready forgiveness of Dev's sins. His grievances against Dev manifested themselves on Geet.
  

• Love does not rejoice at wrong doing but finds its joy in the truth - He considered Geet forgiving Dev was wrong but he says that it is not his problem that she no self-respect as though he couldn't care less about what she thought.
  

• It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes - He failed to make any allowances for Geet's apparent ready forgiveness. He failed to trust her judgment.

Here are some symbolisms that struck me from yesterday's episode:

1. Communication Gap Persists - The Telephone Booth

When Geet refuses to accept his apology and forgive him he drags her to a telephone booth. Their main problem has also been lack of proper communication. Without realizing it he takes her to a place which is meant for communication - the telephone booth! So did they communicate? Yes, they did but it was a one way communication where both spoke but only one listened. There is a difference between hearing and listening. Geet heard Maan's apology and his declaration of love. She heard his explanation for his abominable behaviour and but she could not listen to him. She could not understand or accept him just yet because she herself was still so full of grief and disappointment at his behaviour. Maan, on the other hand, listened to her explanation for her actions before she left. He listened to her words of anguish, pain, frustration and disappointment and empathised with her. He knew he was the cause of it all because of his tendency to draw hasty conclusions. So while both spoke, only one was able to get through to the other person. They were standing outside the place of communication. Geet got to make her point but she is still not aware of what Maan went through post the miscarriage. Once Geet gets in, (not literally getting into a telephone booth, but figuratively getting into Maan's mind space and heart space), the communication will be complete. I can bet that when she does so, she will come running to him.

2. Maan's Penance- The Significance of the Dargah

Typical of him, Maan seeks to punish himself when he realizes just how much he has hurt his Geet. We have always seen Maan do this. He hurts himself if he is hurt by Geet or hurts Geet. On earlier occasions when he was angry with Geet, he turned that anger inward and hurt himself through wood-chi, ice-chi or fire-chi. This time around he is angry with himself for hurting the one woman he loves the most. Since he cannot turn to himself, he turns to God, the greater being. We saw that earlier too in the dargha scene. At the time also he was angry with himself for hurting Geet. So he sought peace at the dargha where Geet came running to see him, fearing he was in trouble. The difference is, this time he is not seeking peace but punishment for he knows that the magnitude of hurt that he inflicted on his Geet was far more.

3.Maaneet Experience Pain in Unison - Fire versus Glass

Maan chooses to hurt himself because he hurt his Geet. He attempts to cleanse his soul by scorching his sole in burning charcoal as a penance for scorching Geet's heart with his words. Even as the heat permeates his sole and goes deeper, his soul still weeps for the pain he caused his beloved and he feels that all the pain he was experiencing was far smaller than what he made her experience.

At the same time that he is experiencing pain, his Geet is also hurt, not because she was punishing herself but because of someone's carelessness. Maan's careless words pierced her heart. Now in her adoptive family's house, her foot is pierced by glass pieces strewn around by the carelessness of its inmates. The first thought that comes to her mind when she is hurt is to asks her babaji to take care of her Maan. Note the use of possessive noun. He will always remain her Maan, no matter what she told him about their love being burnt by the fire of his anger. She seems to know that if she is physically hurt, it means Maan is hurt. They are connected in every respect, even in their pain as much as in their love.

Points to Ponder:

Why did they choose fire and glass?

Fire is a purifier. Gold is put through fire to make it pure. Maan is our gold and he is willingly putting himself through fire for his Geet.

Glass is fragile. Once broken cannot be put together. Geet's heart is like glass. It has been broken and the pieces have pierced her. Can she be mended? Yes, she can. There is only one person who can mend her and that is her Maan. His love is the glue which will stick back the broken pieces. But then it requires time to adjust the pieces precisely in the right place before the glue sets. That is what Maan will now endeavour to do. He will first attempt to put together the broken pieces and then stick them together with the glue of his love.

What was the significance of the dresses Geet and Maan were wearing?

Colours did their talking too! Geet was in green and Maan was in blue-gray. The same colours they were in when Geet cornered Maan in the conference room and explained her side of the story amidst high voltage emotions from both sides. Yesterday was no different. Geet poured out her grief and explained her act of forgiving Dev. The common factor in both the incidents was Dev. There she explained how Dev had wronged her. Here she explained why she forgave him. There she sought Maan out to give the explanation. Here he sought her out to beg her forgiveness as he already knew why she acted the way she did. What he did not realise till yesterday was the extent of pain he caused her. The common factor in both the situations would be his seeking her out after their showdown. He managed to placate her soon enough on the previous occasion. This time around it may be more difficult.
