Like most of you, as of now, I find this sister track very illogical and detrimental to the story. Yet, to pacify myself because I love this show, I have attempted to find some logic in these illogical sequences presented to us. First of all, let me get this out - I HATE Anwesha's character. She is arrogant, stubborn, self-centered, narcissist and acts superior. In order to find some logic, I tried to find what causes arrogance. If someone had a terrible childhood and if he/she was hurt by others he/she may develop arrogance in order to prevent further criticism from hurting him/her, the trick usually works, because if someone criticized him/her, he/she can simply devalue that person and assume that person is worthless. Arrogant behavior can also be a result of feeling neglected. If someone felt that he/she is not getting all the attention he/she deserves, he/she may unconsciously become arrogant just to attract some of the lost attention. Arrogant people are single minded, they either think that they are superior to others or inferior to them. This arrogant person who is intimidating us feels inferior to someone else because this is how his/her mind works, this arrogance may be nothing more than a way to cover this feelings of inferiority he/she experiences when dealing with someone else. Some of these points I found surprisingly gel well with the story line. We know that Maan has a troubled past, and it is possible that part of it is shared with Anwesha and that is what makes him sympathetic to her, and perhaps, that is also what makes her arrogant and rude.
Let us for a moment recall that attic room where Geet found a smiling photo of Maan's past. It shows that he has always not been the angry, rude loner we got introduced to. At some point in his life, he knew how to smile, and that also shows he knew how to care.Then something happened that transformed this loving, caring person into the person we were first introduced to. What it is we do not know. But, we do know this much that he has at some time in past been a loving, caring person, and that spark has lived on in him through his dark times until it got fanned by his feelings for Geet until it once again flared into a strong flame, this time a flame of true love. The passion with which he loves Geet, the veneration he shows his grandma, the fact that he tolerates women employees in his office and the regret he displays for losing his brother to the sinful paths - all of these are proof enough to show what kind of a caring brother he should have been to this younger sister in that not yet disclosed mysterious past where he still knew how to smile. So, when whatever happened that has wiped the smile off of his face and turned him into a recluse, he must have distanced himself from everyone he knew and / or cared about. Dadi's earlier concern about his lapsing back into his dark times gives an indication about what those times were like. It must have felt like a garden turned into a barren wasteland. As a result, he must have distanced himself from this sister too during then, and hence, we may not have been introduced to her before now. So, what has changed now? Why his seemingly inexplicable attention to his sister? I could think of only one explanation. His love for Geet has mellowed down his anger and taught him to live again, smile again, and enjoy life again. This love has once again allowed colorful flowers of feelings to blossom in his barren wasteland of a heart. And, the result of it is that his affection is showering like spring rain on every near and dear relation that has so far not been involved in troubling or insulting Geet. So, he is back to being a pampering brother, and now that he got used to saying sorry to Geet multiple times, he has no qualms about offering sorry to his sister too. I will treat this as the first time he is attempting to apologize to anyone other than Geet. There is no other proof to suggest other wise; i.e. I did not get a feeling that he is in the habit of offering sorry to his sister earlier. Him saying sorry is a big deal and hence, he offered it as a peace offering. That is my opinion in order to make it seem logical to me.
(Note: 'Apology' is indeed a very strong word. There is a lot of difference between making a true apology and uttering mere word of sorry in a playful mood to pacify the tantrum of a pampered sister. What he offered Geet was an apology, and what he said to Anwesha does not qualify as an apology. Thanks Aditi for pointing this out.)
As far as the question of her acceptance goes, I don't think Maan really cares about whether this girl approves of his Geet or not. He is not going to stop from marrying Geet just because Anwesha says so. It is all in her head that she thinks she is important enough to put an acceptance stamp on their relationship. In the beginning, Maan may be his naughty self and will appear to support Anwesha because he loves to watch a pouting Geet. But, once he realizes that Anwesha is being too rude and insulting towards Geet, he will definitely show her her place. Even if Geet is the one who shows her her place, he will completely support Geet and admire her more for the display of such a mental strength.
Who doesn't want his wife to be on best terms with his sister? His attempts shown in the precap/promo to humor his sister are most likely in order to make her see Geet through his eyes; something akin to this SRK song: (Thanks Nandu for this idea.)
Bholi Si Surat, Ankhon Me Masti, Haye Haye.........................
Meri Nazar Se Tum Dekho To Yaar Nazar Woh Aaye.....
His sister being not called during engagement party => possibly she is out of country or out of reach or so I will think till they offer some better explanation. I think Maan is still not out of character, and at least till now CVs have not spoiled his character, and I sincerely hope that they do not destroy it by making the story any more illogical. I would definitely love to watch a strong Geet teaching a lesson to this arrogant sister-in-law, and Maan supporting and appreciating Geet for that.
For me, Maan's love is beyond words, emotions and expressions and he has become synonymous for unconditional and everlasting love. On the other hand, Geet has transitioned from being an innocent, submissive and vulnerable girl to a strong, fearless and indomitable woman. As long as the story keeps up with this point of view or at least offers a scope to explain away the inconsistencies to fit this point of view, I will continue to watch and support this show. Whichever way the story journeys from now on, in the end, I will always remember it for the craving it has created to have that special someone in our lives, who will be like Maan to Geet and Geet to Maan.
I will take leave by sharing this inspiring story with you.
Two Days We Should Not Worry
Author Unknown
There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares,
its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.
Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed;
we cannot erase a single word we said.
Yesterday is gone forever.
The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow
with all its possible adversities, its burdens,
its large promise and its poor performance;
Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.
Tomorrow's sun will rise,
either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise.
Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow,
for it is yet to be born.
This leaves only one day, Today.
Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.
It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad,
it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.
Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.
