Topic maker , welcome to the forum ! Your first post and you are already getting lot of responses😊

I have watched Gurmeet since Ramayan times. He is simply a fabulous actor. His acting as Ram was superb and his eye expressions were fabulous ! He is only 26 years old ! He is still developing his skills and learning to fine tune his craft ! As Maan , he is totally different, yet he is pulling it off with his acting skills and great body ! Sure his English is not perfect, but I know about him , and he is a perfectionist. He is probably doing everything in his power to master the English language . Let's give him some time and he will definitely improve !

But I forget about all that when I watch him in Geet. Guru and Drashti are awesome in this show, and we have more praises than criticisms, that's why the show is #1 ! If any other actor had played this role, I don't think it would have gone to the top ! Guru lets his eyes speak before his lips speak, that's his biggest asset !

First of all, welcome to the forum seeing as this is your first post.
As much as I love watching Maaneet's dreamy romance, I also agree with you to some extent to move the storyline forward. I'm glad that they introduced the Hoshiarpur track now, because I feel it will carry the story forward to a crucial and dramatic point. I think the amount of romance Maaneet have had so far is fine, because thats how you have to develop their love story. Other than that, the story should also be moving at a reasonable pace along with Maaneet's relationship.
About Gurmeet's diction...well I can't say much about his Hindi because its not my first language or mother tongue. Hindi is my third language, so Gurmeet's Hindi sounds fine to me. About his English, its not that he can't speak it...he just has an Indian accent, so maybe thats why his pronunciation sounds strange. Even though he is playing an MD of a big company, you can't expect him to speak with an American or British accent...but yes he could polish his English a little more to fit in with his modern and wealthy character. Other than that, Gurmeet is a fabulous actor! His expressions, body language and the way he emotes with his eyes are just praiseworthy. He is also easy on the eyes, and is conveniently good-looking =)

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

You have every right to have an opinion and that is why this forum exists, anyway.

Now, I agree with what you said about Gurmeet's accent especially when he speaks English. As a teacher of English Lit and Language, I'm in the unfortunate position of picking out mistakes in pronunciation.....it puts me off sometimes. It's the force of Gurmeet's personality and his undisputed acting prowess that make it easy for me to ignore these aspects.

Honestly, what is more annoying is when people put on a false accent and can't sustain that accent even in one sentence! There are a few of those in Bollywood who shall remain nameless!!

But, having said that, it has to be understood that English spoken by those whose mother tongue is a vernacular language often has the influence of that particular language.

I believe Gurmeet grew up in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh where even the Hindi spoken is likely to be different than the one spoken in Mumbai or Delhi.....that's the beauty and diversity of India.

Also, the teachers one gets in the formative years can make or break your language-speaking skills.

As many of the others have already said, no actor is perfect.....not even SRK, whose English accent is suspect sometimes......Sonam Kapoor speaks ungrammatical English sometimes!

And, for Gurmeet's acting skills, I think he's superb, putting half of Bollywood to shame....and the half includes the guy I've mentioned above!

As for the story line, you are right.....eyelocks and smouldering looks are always welcome.....but can we move the story along, already?!!

I think Gurmeet is the best actor on tv at present and one of the best in recent times.and I am not talking about his drop dead gorgeous looks.I have become his admirer because of his wonderful acting skills.he was superb as Ram and now he is so very good as maan.I can't even imagine any other actor playing the role of maan.his eyes are so very expressive and an actor who can emote well with his eyes is a top class one.I don't think there are any such television actors at present.I am not saying there are no other good actors but I feel none are capable of such wonderful wxpressions as gurmeet.he changes his expressions within seconds. As far as his dialogue delivery is concerned,I think its great,I love his voice modulations,I have observed in many actors that often they ignore their modulations in case of trivial dialogues but he is perhaps the only one who is up to the mark everytime.he speaks with a husky voice when he is romantic and thats to die for.evem during the button scene,he was almost whispering those words to geet-it was too good. The only problem ,I agree is with his english diction, which needs improvement but then again for me thats not too much of a problem, and anyways,I don't think he pronounces any word wrongly, its just that his pronounciations could be better and they have improved,so he is working on them,as far as his hindi pronounciations are considered, there is no problem,he pulled off Ram superbly where all his dialogues were in hindi only.
I am sorry for the long post but I seem to be unable to stop when it comes to gurmeet/maan. 😛

neetu 2825- That's completely weird that you've never used or heard and "eh" before. I live in Canada and 99% of the people around me have used the expression.....strange how that works out

I agree....his expressions are def awesome....i hav not come across ne other actor on d indian telly hu matches upto him.

As for his diction....he is an Indian actor....and like all Indians speaks English in a particular way....Am sure none of the Indian audiences can even tell if dere is a better way 2 speak english. Plus it vil seem def odd if he starts speakin wid an accent jus to show he is from canada....here in India v gen find dat pretentious.

Guru is awesome....an for the half an hour he comes on screen he casts his spell on u...sab maaf hai yaar usko.... 🤗

For example, the way he says 'secretary'or 'good idea' is not very convincing of how he is an MD of a grand company and has lived in Canada at any point in his life. On the other hand, his brother-Dev- talks in a much mroe sophisticated manner and i actually liek listening to him :D lol Nonetheless i love maan! he just needs some english and diction lesses and then he'll be flawless!

Hello Sorry for interrupting you here, no offense meant. While posting your comment where you have the liberty to spell check, if one can make mistakes, how do we expect someone else to be flawless? One more thing every one of us (the viewers) have noticed his pronounciation of "secretory" but in that serial most of the actors are pronounce it the same way, be it Dadi or Sasha etc. and even Nayantara who is a born & brought up in Canada. So why do you worry about Maan's diction alone. More over one learns to pronounce during childhood and whatever the teacher teaches will be the thing kid learns. And again please never compare 2 brothers in any case be it in reel life or in the real life. All the 5 fingers are not the same in a palm and you can't expect 2 people to be same. One more thing who said one has to be Good at English to be the MD of any company? I am surprised.

Just I have highlighted (bold & red) some words written above where you could have been flawless and still we found mistakes. More over you have messed up with punctuations.

Once again I am really sorry if I have hurt anyone's feelings with my post.

hey i have noticed Gurmeet does have english diction problems .. and thats perhaps why the makers have consciously avoided giving him too many english lines ...
but come on! there are so many other things about his personally that more than make up for this one drawback... ( if you really wanna call i one)
we are all indians .. hailing from different parts of the country ... and the way we pronounce words is very different .. and just cos, we have one way of saying those words, doesnt mean everybody else who doesnt should be pointed out at ..
and from what i see Gurmeet is working on it.. and has improved alot since earlier .. and as long as they are delivering their jobs, it doesnt matter!
i for one, totally ignore the fact, once he gets into the skin of his character!!!
tell me which business tycoon, can talk such classy hindi and still be a favorite with so many girls???
there is always a positive way of looking at things!! and yes .. the tone of this post was kinda harsh!!
