hey all...here is the next part...sorry i didnt update last night 😕...enjoy...and keep in mind...please bare with me 😳

Part 12

Ranbir Nanda never was a drinker in the past. Yes, he drank but only socially, never daily or anything like that. When and if he drank it was always one drink and nothing too strong. These past few weeks had turned him into a regular drinker. Ranbir now couldn't be seen with out a drink in his hands. No one dared question his habits, especially not after all Ranbir had been through.

Drinking was the only thing that seemed to numb his pain. Be it only for a few hours but still, it meant that for a few hours he could forget what happened to him. Every night he would drink himself to sleep, literally until he passed out or couldn't think anymore. He didn't have a care in the world for a few hours each day, no one to think of or nothing to worry about. It was Ranbir, no one else. It was like a small piece of heaven. When he was drunk he didn't live his life which was basically hell. If he was sober he couldn't handle it. When he was sober his mind played tricks on him.

When he was sober Ranbir could hear Kanya's laughter, he could hear Kanya humming Sonny to sleep, he could hear Kanya teasing and taunting him, he could hear Kanya calling out his name the way she did when he made love to her. Not only Kanya but he could hear his most prized possessions calling out to him "papa", their laughter, and their joy. Every time he closed his eyes he could see their faces. When he was drunk those noises didn't kill him softly inside. He was left in total silence, total abandonment. His head was absolutely chaotic when he was drunk, but oddly in that chaos he found a calm that kept him alive after all that happened.

He remembered when Kanya had given him the news he had secretly died to hear.

**flashback**

It had been one year to the date that they had adopted Suraj, their baby boy. It was time for their third anniversary. Ranbir didn't want too much of a big deal made out of it because he notice that for some time now Kanya wasn't feeling well. Every time he asked her what happened she just bushed it off. He didn't like her being sick. Kanya kept telling him the doctor said it was nothing serious and it would correct itself in a matter of time. He had just about had enough of this doctor. Even Pooja Bhabi was taking this lightly. She kept repeating what Kanya told him, like the two sisters were in cahoots with one another. Ranbir had made up his mind to take Kanya to another doctor to get a second opinion, it never hurt anyone. He thought once their anniversary was over he would take her himself.

The day of their anniversary Pooja Bhabi had very generously offered to take Sonny for the day so Ranbir and Kanya could enjoy each others company. Ranbir had agreed at once. Sonny loved his Massi and his cacha, but his bond with Aryan was the greatest. Put those two boys together and they forget that other people exist in this world. By then Sonny could talk in broken sentences and what not. Ranbir was afraid that Kanya would refuse because she wasn't feeling too good. Much to Ranbir's surprise Kanya and agreed.

They left the house before lunch time so they could enjoy a nice lunch. They got to the restaurant and oddly it was the same one where Kanya had taken Ranbir to tell him she was pregnant the first time. Ranbir was afraid that Kanya might feel apprehensive but she didn't. Kanya seemed to be perfectly fine with the venue. They ordered lunch and ate it together. It was great. They fed each other their lunch; well mostly Ranbir ate cuz Kanya only took a few bites here and there. The dessert cart pulled up and Kanya's eyes widened with joy. There were so many choices for them. Ranbir settled on a simple cheesecake with cherries. Kanya had selected a huge chunk of chocolate chip, fudge cake. Ranbir was shocked to see this. Kanya didn't like chocolate at all. She ate a few pieces here and there but never like this. She tended to stay away but not today. She swallowed it down so quickly, with out so much as an offer to Ranbir, that he was totally taken aback.

Just to tease her, Ranbir had managed to pick up some whipped cream off of his plate onto his finger. She looked into his eyes and said thank you because she had a great time at lunch. It was nice to finally get some alone time with just Ranbir. Ranbir pretended to put his hand out to stroke her cheek but instead he put that whipped cream on her nose. Kanya was shocked. She stared at him, giving him the don't-mess-with-your-wife look. Then she couldn't hold it anymore and burst out into laughter along with Ranbir. They got cleaned up and left the restaurant.

At Kanya's request Ranbir had taken her shopping and to the beach. They had walked along the shore hand in hand, with Kanya resting her head on his shoulder. It was almost sunset, the atmosphere was just beautiful. Kanya spotted a bench and insisted on sitting because she was feeling queasy. Once they were sitting Ranbir reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a black velvet box. It was anniversary gift for Kanya. Kanya opened it and loved it. Ranbir had gotten her a white gold and diamond heart pendant. The heart was just outlined with diamonds, in the middle there were two initials, R and S…for Ranbir and Suraj/Sonny. He said that if Kanya wore this, no matter where she was her family would always be with her. It brought Kanya to tears.

Kanya turned to him and gave him his gift. He wasn't expecting what she had given him…yet he couldn't happier…

K- Well I have a very special gift for you too my love.
R- Oh really…where is it…hand it over.
K- Actually I don't have it with me, so to say. I mean I have it but then I don't have it.
R- What…how is that possible? Is that the chocolate talking…what was that? Did u just have a craving for chocolate all of a sudden or what?
K- I guess you could say that. You will have to add another letter to his pendant in a while?
R- What…Why?...forget that for now, where is my gift?
K- You are going to have to wait about six months for it.
R- What…what kind of give is that?
K- It is the gift of life.
R- What?
K- Ranbir…I'm pregnant.
R- What? How is that possible, not it can't be, we were careful all the time!
K- Yes but it happened.
R- Kanya not again, I cant bare to see you going through all that again, I will die if you hurt again….wait…six months…that means…
K- Yes…I am already a little over 3 months…
R- You knew and u didn't tell me anything.
K- I knew how you would react.
R- Kanya this is your life we are talking about, I'm happy with just you and Sonny…
K- I know, I am too, but when I found out I knew it was a sign from God. After all the precautions we took I still managed to conceive. I'm having this baby Ranbir.
R- But Kanya…
K- No….its already over 3 months…and its ok…I've been seeing a doctor from the beginning.
R- What?
K- Yes…for the other pregnancies I miscarried before the first trimester was over. This time I didn't, the doctor said that with regular check ups this pregnancy will be fine.
R- Really?

K- Yes my love really, I just waited to be sure to tell you, that's all.
R- So we are having a baby and you will be just fine.
K- Yes…we will both be fine.
R- So all that sickness was actually morning sickness and that craving was a "craving"
K- Yes, and yes…
R- So you are really fine, right?
K- Yes…I told you…baby and mom are perfect.
R- (placing a hand over Kanya's stomach) Our Baby…mine and yours…our BABY!

Ranbir enveloped Kanya into a hug. He was so happy that he was going to be a father again. No matter what Sonny was their son, their oldest child. This baby would jus add to the happiness of this family. He was ecstatic. He promised not to miss any appointments or classes or anything. He would be there every step of the way. At that time Ranbir didn't know that Kanya had lied to him, point blank, she lied to him. She looked him in the eyes and lied to him. Kanya never did that, but as they say…there is a first for everything…..
