Chapter 11: FILMY CHAKKAR

The boys changing room was like hell, nervous doctors rehearsing their lines and changing their clothes. Amongst all this commotion, Sameer was sitting in front of the dressing table muttering his lines.

Dr Zain sat down next to him at the table

"Zain! Help me buddy…this is so hard" he said grabbing Zain's collar. "This is even harder then our internship days, I would rather do a surgery right now, even exams are easier than this!"

"Dude…you're holding my collar" Zain said removing Sameer's hands from his collar "Chillax, you'll do fine" he said fixing his hair in the mirror .

"What do you mean, I'll do fine?" Sameer snapped "I don't even want to do this!"
"Then why did you say yes to it?" Zain asked
"Because Sapna…" Sameer mumbled
"Oho! Sapna babhi ne bola iss liye?" he asked nudging him.
Sameer looked like he was going to kill his friend.

Whilst the girls changing room was no different. All the girls were fussing about each others make up and hair. Sapna sat far in one corner on a chair next to a senior resident; Dr Huma.

"Itni nervous kyun Sapna. Kyun Dr Sameer ke saath hau is liye?" Huma said winking at her friend.
"Shut up Humuss, I'm just nervous that's all" Sapna said fiddling with her fingers.
"Oi… it's not Humuss, its Huma… stop spoiling my name Kamini…and I'm sure you two will do great" Huma said smacking her friend lightly.
"Where are the others?" Sapna asked
"They've gone to see Dr Kirti and Shubankar's performance, they're performing next." Huma said
"Oh yeah! I'm going to see it too" Sapna said getting up, before leaving Huma said
"You're next after Dr Kirti...so incase I don't get to see you…Break a leg"

"Hey guys!" Sapna whispered as she reached the corner. They were at the corner of the room, where you could see the stage and the people. But the people couldn't see them because of a curtain.

"Argh!" Ray sighed shocked "Sapna di, you scared me" he was holding onto his heart like he had just seen a ghost. All of them were them were there, excluding Sameer.
"Wow! Look at them perform" Armaan said staring at 2 female Dr's performing to Aaja Nachle. Riddhima shut his wide open mouth, and gave him a disgusted look.

"Man you're right…they are hot…Kiss ke interns hai?" Atul asked staring with his eyes wide open.
"They're Dr Shivi's interns" Armaan said still staring "I am going to have a chat with Dr Shivi, and her interns" he muttered dazed whilst Atul nodded in agreement.
Anjali looked at them and said "Men, they're all dogs"
"I agree di" Riddhima said giving Armaan a grumpy look.
"Mahru and Nizma are hot, I agree….but did you see Marisha's performance??? WOW! Man can that girl belly dance or what!!" Armaan said
The next thing he knew his ear was being pulled by Riddhima.
"Ow ow ow…Im sorry, Im sorry…I'll never look at Marisha again" he said
"Pathetic" Sapna said looking at him
"Yeah all guys are useless" Aaliyah said looking at Ray
"What did I do? I'm not even staring at them" Ray said offended.
"Yeah…you haven't" Aaliyah mused "If it was up to Rehaan, he'd flirt with all the women in Sanjeevani"
"Me?...nah I'm innocent" He said innocently
Sapna knew him too well
"Ray you're nervous about the performance aren't you?"
Ray looked at her and said childlike "Nooooo"
"Hush up guys…Mum's back on stage" Riddhima said.
They all peeped out the curtain again.

Dr Padma walked on stage as the 2 Dr's that were performing left.

"A round of applause for Dr's Nizma and Mahru for their lovely performance on Aja Nachle" Padma said. She was holding a mike; Padma was the main host throughout the evening introducing performances and cracking tacky host jokes.

"Now for our next performance we will be seeing how Dr's Shubankar and Kirti met…Let's see what happened Jab they met"

Everybody clapped as Padma left the stage as Shubankar and Kirti came on stage.

Shubankar was sitting on a table with a couple of cool guys and had his feet up on the table, wearing flashy shades.
Just then Kirti came stumbling in wearing shalwar kameez and glasses. A voice over said

"First day of college, Kirti Banerjee: First year. Shubankar Mukherjee: Senior"

On stage Kirti stumbled as she tripped over her own feet. Shubhankar and the guys started laughing as her books scattered across the floor…One landing underneath Shubankar's chair. Kirti picked up her books nervously as Shubankar laughed, she was a bit scared as she went to reach for the book underneath Shubhankar's chair.

"Not so fast!" Shubhankar said grabbing her wrist.
"I just want to get my book" Kirti said frightened
"Sir" Shubs said "Address me as 'Sir'"

"Looks like Shubhankar 'sir' is enjoying this performance" Atul said peeping through the curtains.
"Man woh chod, Dr Kirti was such a behenji in college days" Armaan said shocked.
Riddhima smacked him on the arm and said "Armaan shush! I think you all should learn a lesson on style from Dr Shubankar"
"My chintu mintu can you 2 stop your discussion" Ray said to Armaan and Ridz. "Chintu mintu?" Aaliyah asked
"My Marzi….I call them what I want" Ray said folding his arms; as if to challenge her.
"So are you going to call your children chintu mintu aswell?" Aaliyah asked
"Nope, they're names will be your decision" He said smiling sweetly
"WHAT?" Aaliyah was about to kill him, when Sapna said
"Shush guys…I want to see the performance"
"Shubankar sir is so romantic; he prepared the dinner himself for their first date…how cute…look at that" Anjali said as she watched them perform.
"Awwwww….that's so cute, I wish someone would do that for me" Riddhima said leaning her elbow on Armaan's shoulder.
He looked towards her; she was in her own dream land. Armaan wondered where her mind was.

An over voice said

"4 years later Sanjeevani hospital. Dr Kirti Banerjee: Intern. Dr Shubankar: Senior resident"

Shubankar was standing in front of 5 interns handing then case files and handing out duties.

"Dr Heer you have OPD duty, Dr Ranjha you will be joining her after following up your patients. Then you two will have duty at the Burns ward attending 2 new cases that have arrived, after which you will do a general check up in the children's ward. Dr Laila your duty is in the general ward with Dr Majnu, after that you 2 will assist Dr Romeo in surgery. After the surgery is over I want you to follow up your yesterdays cases then complete your rounds at the special ward" Shubankar said "And Dr Kirti I want you to join me at the cardiac ward, then you will be assisting Dr Juliet in heart surgery and then duty at the ENT ward. Well what are you all doing staring at me? Go to your duties" Shubankar as his interns looked from one to the other.

Everybody in the hall fell about laughing, as they heard the other intern's names. All our interns were laughing as well.

"Romeo Juliet, Laila Majnu, Heer Ranjha…all that's left is Shiri Farhad" Atul said laughing with Rehaan.
"Wow! What names they've chosen for their interns" Aaliyah said giving Anjali a high 5.

Sapna headed back to the changing room to get ready for her performance, as the others watched and laughed.

A voice over said
"The proposal"

The stage was filled with extras like they were in a party. Dr Shubankar walked over to Kirti who was talking to a group of people.

"Kirti I need to talk to you" Shubankar said
"Shubhi not now" Kirti said to him she was about to walk off when Shubankhar grabbed her hand and walked off.

The stage had cleared out and it now looked like Sanjeevani terrace

"Shubhi why did you-" Before Kirti could finish he put a finger on her lips to hush her.
"Kirti you don't interrupt me, Mein ek senior doctor hoon"
"Shubhi… I'm not your intern anymore" Kirti said
"I know…Your internship year went so fast. It made me realise that time isn't in our grasp. I want to make the most of this time Kirti… I want to be with you with every passing moment. I think you've had enough of working like my slave. Now I want to be your slave. Kirti, will you marry me?" Shubankhar asked as he got onto his knees.

Now an over voice said

"2 years later"

Kirti was sitting lordly on a chair as Shubankar was cleaning the floor around her with a wet towel. "Shubankar where's my tea?"
Shubankar got up looking at Kirti scared and said "Jaldi laya Kirti" he ran off stage and came back holding a teacup.
Shubankar then turned to the audience and sang "Zamana tu hain naukar biwi ka"

The lights dimmed with the end of their performance. The audience clapped whilst laughing.

Kirti and Shubankar walked off stage and Padma re-entered.

"Ahhh If only I could make my husband a slave too. Maybe I should get tips from Kirti" Shashank who was sitting in the audience started laughing and shouted "I'm already your naukar!" Everybody in the audience started laughing even more.

Armaan, Rehaan and Atul were still laughing at Shubankar and Kirti's performance. Whilst the girls were laughing at Dr' Padma and Shashank's open flirting.

"Awwww That's so cute" Aaliyah said
"Cute? That's domestic violence" Rehaan said pretending to be outraged.
"That is cute" Riddhima said sweetly
"I hope you don't turn your husband into a slave too" Armaan said to her.
"Maybe I will" she said cheekily
"I don't know about Ridz, but I'm sure Anjali will" Atul said
"Oi! What did you say?" Anjali said to Atul poking him.
"Ouch…I told you so" Atul said to Armaan
"Is she your wife?" Armaan said sarcastically.
"Okay can you guys shut up…Sapna di is going to be performing" Ray said
"Sapna ka chamcha" Atul muttered.
"Atul and me are going to get ready for our performance. Come on Atul" Anjali said grabbing his hand and pulling him away as he made 'help me' faces.
"Anjali…Champ hasn't learn his lines…go beat him up" Armaan said making a face at Atul.
"What? Atul! I had told you to learn them!!" Anjali said shocked at him
"Watch what I do to you when we get home Armaan" Atul said ignoring Anjali and speaking to Armaan.
"Watch what I do to you now! Anjali said dragging him away by his collar.
"Armaan" Riddhima said "Why did you do that to poor Atul?"
"Its fun!" He said
"Shush guys" Rehaan said again.

"And now we present to you. Senior doctor Sameer and Intern Dr Sapna with their personalize enactment of Hum aapke hain kaun" Padma clapped as she walked off stage.

(Note: When you read Prem imagine Sameer, and Nisha is Sapna)

Sameer was sitting at the centre of the stage playing a banjo like Prem. Whilst Sapna came roller skating in, whistling and blowing bubble gum like Nisha.

She was roller skating around Prem when she lost balance and fell on him. He looked into her eyes and she gazed back at him. Completely lost in each others eyes, they forgot that they were performing on stage. A couple of seconds had gone bye when Rehaan realized that Sapna and Sameer were actually lost in each others eyes and weren't acting.

"Not again" Ray muttered and to get their attention back into the play he coughed...really loudly, it sounded like he was choking.

Sapna and Sameer were brought back to their senses. Sapna got of his lap and said
"Aap kau pata hain Professor Tripathi ka room kaunsa hain?"
"Main hi Professor Tripathi hoon" Prem said getting up from the chair and smirking; his back facing towards her and looking directly at the audience.
"Oh sorry sir…actually woh mein er actually mein Professor Choudhury ki beti hoon" she said.

Just then an elderly looking man walked in (an extra…Sukhi)
"Beta tum Nisha hau?" he asked "yeh rahe tumhaare papa ke notes…who mein print karne ke liye gaya tha"
Prem (Sameer) slowly tiptoed off whilst Nisha had her face turned to the old man .
"Aap professore Tripathi hain…? Tau phir yeh kaun hain" she said turning around to find the space empty.
"Arrey woh tau Prem hauga…Kailashnath ka beta. Beti shaadi main hum kall milte hain"

Nisha and the old man walked off stage, as Prem and a bunch of extras came on stage. He was wearing the famous Salman Khan Hum aapke hain kaun suit, twirling a catapult around his finger. Nisha walked in from the other side of the stage wearing the blue Madhuri Dixit clothes. She walked around generally chatting to extras when she dropped her kangan; so she bent down to pick it up, Prem who was sitting on a stool watching her from afar hopped off and aimed his catapult at her behind.

Nisha jerked up as she felt something hit her backside. She turned around to see Prem swinging his catapult around his fingers as he walked towards her.

Nisha's cousin (another extra) walked up to her and said "Prem this is Nisha my cousin…and Nisha this is Prem my devar"

"Didi tera devar diwana, Hai ram kudiyaun pe daale dana" Nisha said as her cousin giggled, walking away
Nisha then turned to Prem
"Aapne humein gulel se kyun maara.. it's bad manners, agli baar kisi aur ladki ko maarne se pehle do baar sonchiye ga" she said folding her arms
"Kisi aur ke baare mein sonchne ki fursat kise hai? sirf aapse toh hum yeh gustaki kar sakte hain" Prem said
"Kyun????? Hum aapke hain kaun" She turned around to leave when he held her hand back and gazed into her eyes lovingly.

Rehaan wolf whistled as the lights dimmed and they all left the stage. The crowd was also clapping.

Atul and Anjali were behind stage, last minute practices. They were both roaming around here and there muttering lines.

"Stupid Anjali…she had to pick this film. It's so hard…and this stupid dhoti is so hard to wear" Atul said flapping his dhoti about like a chicken.
"Atul stop doing that to your dhoti…you're going to mess it up" Anjali said stopping him.
"What? It's not my fault this thing is uncomfortable" Atul said squirming
"You better remember your lines!" Anjali said. Atul made a face at her, when she wasn't looking. They heard their announcement being made on stage.

"That was a lovely performance by Dr Sameer and Dr Sapna…and now the Tom and Jerry of Sanjeevani hospital are going to be presenting us a tragic love story" Padma said as the audience laughed at her cheesy lines. "Yep, I mean Dr's Atul and Anjali will be performing some famous scenes from Devdas"

Anjali was muttering her lines…she was meant to be on stage after Atul did a solo scene. Atul who heard the announcement looked up and said "This one's for you dad, wherever you are"

Anjali stared at him as he went on stage; she really couldn't understand that guy. One minute he does annoying stuff and the next he's says something thoughtful. Anjali snapped back to reality as the spotlight on stage went on.

Anjali walked on stage wearing a nav gaz (Bengali) saree as Paro, she sat down on a chair facing the audience reading a letter. Atul who was dressed in a suit walked behind her.

Paro who was unaware of this said "Tum kab aaoge Deva" Atul who was meant to play a serene Devdas forgot and instead jumped and cheerfully said "Lo main aagaya Paro" Anjali turned around and gave him a death stare, Atul toned down and said "Lo main aagaya Paro" trying his best to put up a depressed tone.

"Paro, tum yaha chat par kya kar rahi hau?" Devdas asked.

"Tumhara hi cheethiyaan phir se par rahi thi…tumhari un paanch cheetiyaan main din main paanch bar parti hu...tau phir saal main kitni baar hua dev" Paro said moving towards him. Devdas looked baffled as Paro continued "aur das saal main…91250 (Ekyaanve hazaar do sau pachaas) baar…."

Atul looked at Anjali baffled and a bit scared "Anjali…what's my line?" Atul whispered forgetting that there was a mike attached to his shirt collar so everybody heard his little stage 'whisper'.

The crowd roared with laughter as Anjali fumed with anger and embarrassment. The lights dimmed as this scene was over.

Next Scene: Devdas Drunk

Atul walked onstage, but he tripped because of the dhoti. Everybody started laughing. Atul quickly regained his posture and grabbed the bottle he had dropped.

"Kaun kambakht bardaasht…karne kau peeta hain?" Atul said trying his best drunken voice. He went to open his bottle when it slipped out of his moist hands and landed in Dr Shashanks lap. Everybody started laughing even more, Shashank threw the bottle back at Atul; who was by now pink with all the embarrassment.

Atul caught the bottle and opened it and regained his drunken posture.

"Pa-Paro ne kaha tha...sharaab chaud dau..Maa ne kaha tha….Paro kau chaud do" Atul struggled to get his lines correct. "Pappu…I mean Pappa…no no I mean Bappu ji" he stuttered whilst the audience chuckled at him "Yea that's right…bappu ji ne kaha tha paudhe kau chaud dau?" Atul asked himself while everybody started laughing. Anjali was red from anger, she felt like killing Atul right now. "No no I mean Bappu ji ne kaha tha ke ghar chaud dau…ek din woh aayega jab Armaan…mera matlab baghwan…no that wasn't the line" He stuttered talking to himself more than anything.

Armaan was on the floor laughing whilst Riddhima was holding onto the wall for support due to laughing non-stop. They were still behind the curtain.

"Ah man! Ray is missing out on the fun" Armaan said in between gasps. Rehaan and Aaliyah had left 5 minutes after Atul and Anjali had started their performance. They needed to get ready for their performance.
"What am I missing out on?" Ray said coming back to there secluded corner. Armaan and Ridz took one look at Ray and started laughing even more
"Ray, I think you are wearing Aaliyah's clothes" Armaan said laughing hardly.

Ray stood there waiting till they both stopped laughing.
"Are you two done laughing yet?" Ray asked annoyed
"Yep" Ridz said still giggling slightly
"Good and I'm not wearing Aaliyah's clothes" He said as Riddhima still giggled and Armaan covered his red face.
"Dude, it sure looks like you are" Armaan said stifling his laughter
"Yeah, well that's what they wore those days" Ray said uncomfortable with his clothes.
"These are really riding up my backsi-"
"Okayy…too much information Ray" Ridz said
"What? It's giving me a wedgie!" Ray said pulling the trousers.

Armaan couldn't stop himself, he burst out laughing loudly. Ray just gave him a grumpy look and walked to the curtain to see the rest of Atul and Anjali's performance, to be greeted by the funniest sight ever.
"Hey guys look at this"

Devdas Final scene

The stage set up wasn't big enough for Anjali to run like Paro did in the final scene so instead she had to run in slow motion towards a drunk and dying Devdas. So Paro ran towards Devdas in slow motion flicking her hair to give the wind blowing effect. But instead it looked like she was running on the beach on an episode of Baywatch…with a saree on.

"Devaaaaaaaaaa" Anjali screamed

The audience were falling off their seats laughing as they watched Baywatch Paro run to her 'Devaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa'

While Atul who was lying on the floor like he was dying drunk looked up to see Anjali running towards him….in slow motion, when he saw her trip in her 9 yards saree and land on him with her elbow in his face.

The audience were in hysterics as Atul screamed "Owww!!"
With that scene their performance was over. The audience stood up from their seats clapping for them whilst laughing. Anjali got up and bowed for the audience. Atul also got up; in a hurry he didn't realize that his dhoti fell down to reveal his spiderman length trousers

Armaan who was behind the curtain with Ray and Ridz said out loud

"CHAMP!! THOSE ARE THE TROUSERS I BOUGHT YOU!"

Everybody was laughing…even Anjali. Whilst people in the crowd looked around to find the person that shouted. Armaan quickly hid behind the curtain again.

Anjali and an embarrassed Atul left the stage as Dr Padma walked onto stage laughing.

"Well that was definitely a web of disasters, tragedy se comedy Devdas ban gayi… but a very exhilarating and an entertaining performance" She said "Now it's time for 2 of our senior Dr's Zain and Huma"

Dr's Zain and Huma came onstage as the audience clapped for them.

"Hi guys" Sapna and Sameer said to Armaan, Ridz and Ray.
"Hey di" Ray said excitedly
"What are you wearing?" Sameer said looking at him from head to toe.
"Oh not you as well" Ray said stubbornly "Armaan and Ridz have made enough fun of me"
At that Armaan and Ridz started laughing again.
"Okay okay enough guys…Me and Riddhima are going to get ready for our performance" Armaan said as him and Riddhima left to get ready.
"Oh wait…Minnie is with sister Lovely right?" Ridz asked Sameer
"Yep, she's ready don't worry" Sameer said
"Okay you guys watch Dr Zain and Huma's performance"

Aaliyah came rushing in, as Riddhima and Armaan left. Rehaan stared at her, and thought…

My Dil goes-

"Wait, why are you wearing a moulana waali topi, and what's up with all those feathers sticking out of it." He asked

"Shut up Rehaan, it's not a moulana waali topi, and have you seen the time, Zain and Huma are nearly done, we should be back stage…" She said breathlessly, as she dragged him by the hand.

"And that was a great dance performance on 'Tenu leke' from Salaam-e-ishq by Dr Huma and Dr Zain…and just an insight for the audience, Zain sacch mein Huma kau leke jayega…because in 4 weeks they will be getting married" Padma said as the audience 'awwed'
