A (Alphabetized, B (Bhaang) C (Carbs)
She was asleep before “he could get to her”, Dadi snored like a freight train in the next room
He was taking a work call in the balcony, when he returned she had showered and gone to bed
When her parents found the lights on and peeked
He was on his phone, typing an email.
He didn’t have his computer with him
“Aapko main laptop deta hoon” Papa rifled through Viveka’s cupboard to find one but with no power cord
“Akash soney do unko” Ma scolded
“Arey yahi rakhi hogi usne” Akash pretended to know
“Akash SO rahi hai aur light bhi jal rahi hai
“Arey ek second she keeps her things”
Raanav chuckled, it was a crazy mess in two of her glass book cases
“Zyada padh lete hain bache then they lose themselves
“At least she found HIM” Anu smiled sheepishly at Raanav
“I agree” Raanav smiled
“Beta subah kya khaogey?”
“I am fine”
“Bagel bana lo, aur koi French pastry Akash offered
“No I am really fine”
“Anu glared at her husband
“If he could have those he would have stayed home” she said to her husband
“Nice ceremony tonight” Raanav said silkily handing Akash books that were displaced during search
“Arey yeh to kuch bhi nahi beta, Savi ke ghar mein har hafte shaadi type function hoti rehti hai”
“The wedding was grand too I recall”
Anu was not in the room, gone off to change
“Aap log maaney nahi khair aapke Dad beemar the, I wanted a big wedding for my Veev”
“Did she want it too”
“She ? I don’t know she never said anything, she never says anything on topics that are not about politics or economics” Akash cracked himself up
And laughed softly and did a “Shushhhh” “Sshushhh “ to himself
“U think she will be spooked if u threw her a big wedding?”
“Abhi? 4 mahiney baad?”
Raanav held his breath
“Umm.. I don’t know… I just want to prank her I guess”
“Idea to buran ahi hai”
“Beta bournvita ya hot chcolate bana doon?” "Sorry Dadi is snoring like a Category 5 Hurricane" she smiled
He laughed
“Umm.. I am good”
“arey yaar Amma so gayi to who Kingfisher ki beer padi hogi hamare balcony ke chhote fridge mein, aur wine bhi hogi tumhari duty free wali
“I don’t mind” Raanav smiled
Akash brought his SIL to his balcony and the men sat on the swing and sipped beer talking late into the night
Naina was staying over at Bua’s as she hadn’t attended the ceremony
Akash carefully avoided talking about Smrita or Raanav’s relationship with Satyen
Satyen had hinted to him he was a “bit disappointed” by some things
Akash acted like he knew nothing and heard nothing
The men talked until 2 AM ish
“Subah main aapke liye banana bread bana leta hoon” Akash promised
Raanav didn’t care for sugary breakfasts, he loved to go for a run if he was going to eat sugar but he was polite enough to nod and smile
Clothes hung up above his head in many rows
“Holi par yaha aana aap ladki ko maayke aana hota hai, hum log chhath par party karte hain, bhaang bhi rehti hai”
Raanav nodded
“Bhaang pi aapne kabhi?”
He shook his head
“Shubh kaarya mein koi deri nahi honi chahiye, main banakar aapke ghar bhijwata hoon peekar dekho aap,
Raanav laughed
“Patte mera bhai laata hai UP se” he whispered leaning over..
Akash was real Raanav thought
Raanav got to work, he spent the next couple hours quietly cleaning out both Viveka’s book cases
He alphabetized the journals and books and articles
When he was done it was almost 4 AM and he had 1.5 shelf left over
He went to bed and lay by her side unable to sleep, Dadi continued to snore like a pounding sledgehammer
She slept through the hour long night lamp glow cleaning exercise
But woke when he got up to get water
He had some and returned
He sipped his water and muttered “Have u had bhaang?” he asked setting the bottle on the nightstand
“Are you making some?” she asked sleepily
