Ears/Years
It was a wonderful day at Mathurs, Awasthis were wonderful people, though Karuna had no desire to marry the guy at the moment it was astonishing to everyone how Mayank and her hit it off
The food was great and the company was entertaining
Bua was besides herself with joy that another wedding could happen soon
Ma was heartbroken about Naina so she could not enjoy the day at all
Whether Dadi and Bua knew about the Dubai pictures was a matter of speculation
“Keh deta hoon” Papa whispered to Ma in the kitchen
“Nahi abhi nahi, Savi sabke saamne kuch keh degi”
“Isnt Naina supposed to be here?” akash was angry
“she went to see Kopal”
“Let mr Parashar return I can offer to mediate with Dhamijas”
“She doesn’t want to live with him Akash” Anu scooped gajar halwa into bowls
“Well then she shouldn’t have gotten drunk, shouldn’t have married him, shouldn’t have lived with him before engagement”
“There are many people that do that these days Akash” Anu was stinging from those harsh words
“This is not an indictment on how we raised them or your role of a mother yaar” Akash sighed apologetically
“I get it Akash” she whispered
“Aap dono na…. abhi bhi nayi shaadi hui hai?” Bua giggled watching them from the kitchen entrance
“I am telling ur brother I am past menopause he was another girl now” Anu laughed weakly
“BHAYYYYAAA”
“Kyon bhai? Biwi meri hai, main jab chahe… umm… ummm” Akash danced like a monkey
Anu and Savi giggled and rolled their eyes
Akash took the tray out
“Savi”
“Jee Jiji”
“G G G” Anu teased
And in the next 15 minutes Anu told her tearfully what Naina had done, as the two women sifted through a cupboard in the master bedroom looking for return gifts for the mother and father “
Savi almost passed out in shock
When Dadi peeked she managed to send her away with some nonsense request
“Aapko main promise karti hoon Jeeji I will not say anything” she promised in Hindi tearfully as well
“Anil Garima ya meri family ko kuch nahi pata hai abhi” Anu whispered
“Jeeji aapke jaisi strong successful ambitious lady ko aisi bachpana karne waali beti”
“Naina ko hum logon ne data bhi bahut, asia nahi we enabled her”
“Kya matlab”
“Humne Naina ko koi chhooth nahi di Savi”
“Jaante nahi kya hum?”
“Abhi Akash usko keh rahe hain Inder se baat karke sort out karo who kahe meri jooti bhi na karey baat”
Savi laughed
“Ghamandi hain who log, meri shabaashi hai usko is baat par” Savi giggled
“If it is a legally recognized marriage it should be annulled Savi”
“Who sab main nahi jaanti, agar hamari beti nahi chahti usko to chhod de”
“Us ladke itna tamasha kyon kiya hai phir?”
“To aap baat kar lo na Jeeji?”
“Akash jaayenge jab Satyen laut aayenge to”
“Smritaji se aap baat karo”
“Umm… Nupurji se kar loongi” Anu said moodily
“Achha yeh batao Biveka apni good news kab dengi?”
Anu looked at her thoughtfully
“Who dono abhi to baat baat par lad hi rahe hain”
“KYON?” Savi was shocked
“Akash aur main bhi intellectuals hain par yeh dono to” she held her ear lobes
“Kidhar hain hamare angrez ji”
“Gaya who, koi baat ho gayi shaayad”
“Biveka ke kaan kheechti hoon main” Savi got up abruptly
“Shshhhhhh shhhhh nahi show mat karna usko”
“Baat kya hui?”
“Kaha nahi mujhse kuch”
She texted her kids
“Chalo theek hai” she mumbled
In an hour or so Viveka’s phone rang
“Haan?” she asked softly walking to her balcony to find some quiet
“Are you hurt?” he growled
“Kis baat se?” she asked quietly (the fact that you walked away after fighting?)
“Harsha texted me, he said you tore your earlobe?”
“KAB?” she was shocked
“I don’t know… you tell me Viveka Mathur” he was angry she needed no further clarification
“Harsha chased me on the terrace when I went to grab some pickle Ma has set out in the sun, I locked the stair door behind me, he had to wait for Piyush to go up and rescue him” she explained mockingly
“So are you hurt?” “Or NOT?”
“Nahi hoon main hurt” she said softly but exasperatedly, “Harshu is not careless, he fought the door handle but I shut it anyway” I snuck out before he could open it, may be that’s why he thinks its my ear?” she was confused
“Ah”
“Rakhoon?” she asked
“Umm…”
“Bye”
“Are you coming home tonight?”
“I don’t think so” she said calmly hanging up
