Her head hurt. Something icky was running down her nose and her teeth felt wobbly. Her eyebrows hurt as well, and she sure as hell did not want to open her eyes. Her knees were extremely unsteady, and all in all, she felt dizzy. Then she looked around and saw a ring strewn on the floor, before her eyes went to the unconscious figure in front of her. And the memory of the previous night came back to her. She was so concentrated on getting herself off the floor, she didn't hear the figure stirring beside her, until she heard him clear his throat.
Slowly and painfully she turned back to look at him, and he froze. Like a feature film, the memory of what he had done came back to him. Her face was disfigured because of him, she was more or less crippled because of him, and he had hit a girl! And then he saw her smile,' Good Morning, Mr. Shekhawat.'
He looked up bemused, she generally called him Captain. As if reading his mind, she clarified, 'You told me not to call you Captain, so…' she trailed off…
He cleared his throat again, 'Na- Madam, I'm err.. sorry about.. ' If he had had a fairer complexion, one could've seen him burning scarlet, but she somehow guessed it.
'Its okay, Ca- Mr. Shekhawat. You had to let out your emotions somehow. It's not wise to keep everything bottled up, you know. You should tell let your walls down and let someone look over you.
He tried to say something, but she cut him off. 'When I see into your eyes, Cap- Mr. Shekhawat, I see pain, bitterness and anger for everything around you. But underneath all that, I could also see affection and love. You are in love, Rajveer Singh Shekhawat, and you're in love with someone who's not with you right now. I can see the pain in your eyes when a couple walks past you. I can see the anger in you when someone mentions anything about a girl. You love her a lot, so much that the love is slowly eating you away, but you don't even care. You don't think much of yourself, but its high time you realize that other people do.'
He stared at her, 'she looked presentable,' he thought grudgingly, even with all her injuries, she still had an excited flush to her skin. 'Madam, you don't know what you're talking about.' He replied calmly.
'Don't I? But I do, Mr. Shekhawat, I do know what I'm talking about. You should open up a bit, go out and socialize Mr. Shekhawat, if not for you, do it for her. Do it for the woman for whom you're suffering. You live in a brittle world, in a world where everything is shattered or joined together by a little thin thread. Do it for her, then, you don't always have to be the perfect army guy.
His closed eyes snapped open, and she was shocked by what she saw in them. They were pleading to her, requesting her to stop the torture, as every word hit him like a whiplash. As he abruptly turned around and leaned on the window sill, her observant eyes didn't notice him reminiscing.

'C'mon Raj! We'll be late! We have to reach soon, and my parents will be waiting, and my brother is coming to visit and – '
'Ritu dear, relax. I'm coming. Anyway, I don't see the point of al these monthly family meetings. There's absolutely nothing to do for me there.'
'Well, you could talk to my dad.'
He snorted. She smiled and came up to him, adjusting his tie. And then she whispered, 'you know, you don't always have to be the perfect army guy.'
She stood still, not understanding what was going on. All she knew was that she had said something which had caused him a great deal of pain. And she decided it was the best time to leave.
'I—I'm sorry. I was just err.. leaving.'
And she limped to the door when she heard him call, 'Madam.' He still hadn't turned around, but it was as if he was waiting for her response.
'Yes?'
'You can call me Captain.' Her still distorted face broke into a huge smile before she replied, 'And you can call me Naina.'
This time he did turn around, and shook his head, 'Uh-Hun.. I will always call you Madam.'
And she was pleased to notice a tiny hint of amusement in his otherwise painful eyes.

'I am going to have him court-martialed. The Army will surely do something for attacking a senior officer. That idiotic excuse of a human being doesn't deserve the army. It will all work out, you see. '
