It was a miracle how she even managed to come back home. Her legs were almost giving away, and her nose and mouth were still bleeding. She just managed to knock on Alekh's apartment when collapsed.
A couple of hours later, she was awoken to a series of bright lights, which she then realized was actually the neon light in the room, and came face to face with a very indignant Alekh.
'Naina! What the hell? Who did this to you? Did you get into a fight with someone? Were you mugged? Were you-?'
'Alekh, Shut up.! My head hurts.' She snapped irritably and moaned.
'Naina,' he took a gentler tone now, 'What happened to you?'
She just looked away. Somehow, she didn't want to tell anyone who had done it.
She knew Captain Rajveer could easily be court-martialed if she told him, but she didn't want him to. Deep inside her, she wanted to see him happy and smiling..
'Naina' his voice had taken a pleading tone, 'Did you get into a fight.'
Not wanting to talk about it, she just shook her head to Alekh. She kept repeating flashes of meeting Capt. Rajveer the second time in her head. Even if he had crippled her and hit her, being near him gave her a weird sense of happiness.
'Will you cease your incessant questions right now, Cadet Singh?'
'And I'm not your personal secretary, in case you've forgotten, Madam.'
'How did that happen, Madam? Well, let's just say we weren't happy together. And I also doubt that not divulging my personal information will earn me a demotion, will it Madam?'
'Naina, talk to me, tell me who did this to you?' Alekh's voice was turning coaxing.
His touch was mesmerizing. She still remembered the tingly feeling going through her when he had put an arm around her. Even when he had hit her, she had still felt the warmth of him, his hands were large and straight, and they had a very supportive aura.
'Yes,' he whispered, 'Yes, he was perfect. Always, in everything, he was always the best. He used to always tell me that he wanted to die perfectly as well, die in such a way that people remembered him. His wish was granted, he did die perfectly, and no matter how ironic it was, people did remember him.
He would've wanted you to be happy.'
'Naina, who did this to you? Naina, if you don't tell me I'm going to call the police.'
She dazed out of her thoughts and mumbled something incomprehensible.
'Naina,' he was shaking her shoulders now, 'who was it?'
'You could be nice if you wanted as well.'
'I think I might like you as well, Madam.'
She had almost erupted out of happiness, when he had said that. Even today, when he had slapped her, there had been a tender touch to him. His eyes had been full of love, for her or someone else, she didn't know, but she had gotten butterflies in her stomach by just looking at him.
'DON'T TRY TO MAKE FUN OF ME. GET OUT OF MY LIFE FOR EVER.
'I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT RESPECT, NAINA, SO GET OUT BEFORE I HAVE THE URGE TO KILL YOU.'!
Even harsh words like that had been full of warmth.. and she couldn't even explain what she had felt when he had called her back. One sentence was enough as a sincere apology and hand of friendship. By that one sentence she knew that he would support her,.. she smiled when she pictured him.. Her Captain Shekhawat.
'You can call me Captain.'
'Uh-Hun.. I will always call you Madam.'
And she suddenly decided, she really liked it when he called her Madam. The word had a sultry feel to it, and even the way he says it made her want to run her hands all over him.. he was seductive, and roguishly attractive to her.
'NAINA!' Alekh shouted, snapping her out of her daze, 'who did this to you?'
'Captain Rajveer.' She mumbled.
'Who?'
And then it clicked to him, and he leaped up.
'CAPTAIN RAJVEER? OUR EX- TEACHER?' he half-squeaked, half yelled and sat down again. 'I'm going to file a complaint in the army.'
She jerked up and caught his wrist. 'No.' she said simply.
'What? You want to protect the guy who did this to you? I am going to have him court-martialed. The Army will surely do something for attacking a senior officer. That idiotic excuse of a human being doesn't deserve the army. It will all work out, you see. You don't have to be scared.' He said, misunderstanding her expression and started walking out of the room.
'There's one slight problem.' She called out.
'What?" he snapped, turning.
'I think I'm in love with him'

'Err. Can I ask you something?'
'On girls?' her lips were twitching alarmingly.
'No, well yes.. actually there is an Army Officers' Ball this next weekend in Delhi. Would you care to accompany me?
