Stuff

They didn't bother each other or try to engage after dinner, that's how most evenings were, atleast the next 3, they wrestled with their personal demons, spending the waking hours wondering how the family was going to be told, in fact a couple nights he just texted her to say he wont even be home for dinner,

basically just eating that one time at home during the first 4 days.

Rumi and Riyaz stopped by quickly the 4^th evening, handing her a large bunch of roses she was home before him

After having a bad day at work, and developing a slight head ache in the process

He had given her a key the second morning but she was too afraid to open the door by herself

She usually asked the guard to help her

He restrained the dog so she could go use the bathroom and then he waited to see if she wanted Toast in or out

She tried having him be free, and was ambushed almost body slammed in love by that giant ball of fluff

She asked him to leash him to the window

He just sat there whining

She changed was able to do her thing, work, make herself tea etc

She was surprised to Riyaz and Rumi that 4^th evening

"Congrats they wished nervously

She accepted the flowers reluctantly

The dog was delighted, just twisting himself into a knot tangling the leash completely

Riyaz freed him and took him for a walk

"How are you feeling?

"I am mostly sick all day and eat at night, sometimes even throw that up

"I am sorry Rumi squeezed her hand

"Thanks

"Weve been trying to have a baby too she smiled

"Oh really?

"Yes...

Samidha discovered then that they were married... unlike herself

"U guys are married so u can take ur time... she smiled

"Don't feel bad it happens Rumi whispered kindly

"I don't know what to feel anymore, I havenet even told any of my friends in Bangalore she whispered

"Ur parents?

"No... noo... oh no

"Nobody knows?

"Only my ajji... just grandma

"Oh wow?

"Yeah Samidha hung her head

"It will all get better. Avyaan is a great guy

Samidha's heart fluttered

"I am getting that feeling she said to herself... "He is so great... mature and thoughtful and willing to help

"I really mean it... he will help u a lot

Samidha nodded "He does... he is very patient she smiled weakly

"Oh

"It's a shock for him too Samidha muttered

"Don't worry about anybody... just take care of urself... and the baby... Rumi offered sagely advice

"Its hard not to... nobody knows... I am just living here because he said I should

"U did the right thing... hes a great cook too Rumi giggled

"I didn't know

"Oh yeah... we all love his food and his company... his house watch parties are the funnest

"Hmm

Riyaz and Avyaan entered

"They brought flowers she pointed

"They look great he shrugged smiling

They all had a beer, she leaned on the couch and wondered about everything new, everything changing... so rapidly

Avyaan first wanted to order pizza then, Rumi asked for south Indian so the men went to Chidambaram in Lodhi Colony and picked up food

"I was wanting sambar Samidha whispered conspiratorially

"JUST TELL HIM Rumi smiled

"Its OK

"Are u guys OK? I mean... are u guys friends? Rumi basically asked if they were still intimate

"Umm.. we are just staying here Samidha opened up finally, feeling relieved

She had lost count of the people and things she had hidden the last 4 weeks

"Oh why?... u guys should talk

"We do... But u know... he loves Charu, I still... I was married before

"He told me all about it... Rumi stirred the heating sambar on the stove

"So... its not only about how to tell our parents, its also about what we did to ourselves

"U didn't do anything wrong

"U are kind Samidha shook her head

"I am not... u guys are young... U know... stuff happens Samidha

"Hey Room... iske paas who ergonomic mouse hai yaar, try kar Riyaz peeked

"Oh really? Rumi quickly smiled

the dog was fed, and Avyaan took a quick shower, laid the table, poured out more beer,

"Are u hungry? he asked her pleasantly

"I had a rough day she said

"I am sorry

"Its OK

They talked about the show they were watching

When the couple left, Samidha was asleep on the couch

He draped her with a blanket and left a light on took his laptop to the bed

The next morning at 5 AM she woke sat on the couch pondering over how terrible it would be to fall in love in such a messy situation...and went to the bed, and sat down on the edge

He woke startled

"Are u OK?

"Umm yeah...

"Why are u up?

"I was in the living room remember?

He nodded groggily checking the clock

"I don't have to go in until 11 he lay back down

He didn't invite her... she went back to the couch... hurt

"So... its not only about how to tell our parents, its also about what we did to ourselves

Bang on! This is it.. this stretch of awkward silence / situation that's kind of manifested not knowing what exactly to themselves first before others, not knowing what to do, little bit wallowing in self pity, little shame ... no rather embarrassment the more appropriate word here ... rules and norms previously set being unwritten, unusual abstinence,wondering oh! this isn't what it was supposed to be, this isn't what they got together for in the first place,getting used to new sorroundings new norms or way of life.

Got to feel sorry for them! The sageful truth ...being ...this too shall pass. Hmmm!

They have what other married couples don't have (including her with Bik) but are unable to enjoy that because of what they think they don't have.

Awkwardness is multifold; a good hearted Avyaan is responsible of his doings and feels protective about Sam and the child. He doesn't know what to do further.

Bringing his friends to ease her uncomfortableness is good but looks like she is getting into "I would like more zone unconsciously. She is caught between I need the child but I don't feel Avi is responsible and I need to make the decisions. And also i like if he cares for me. She has to disclose this at her work sooner than later and her family.

They need more dinner time, evening walks, doc appt together as a friends first before they think about being couple or more.

Spare key is nice gesture. But when is he going to give the key to his heart (yikes, that sounds too cheesy! But w.e).

BTW, does he know how she commutes to work? Is the car still a hidden secret ? How protective is he now of her ?

Baby steps

She offered to make tea the next morning, she used the powder/guest bathroom by the dining room to retch in the morning since she didn't want to wake him.

She clarified to herself that the attention she sought from Avyaan was just because she was pregnant and hormonal and there was nothing more to it

Nevertheless she couldn't stop thinking about him

Everything about him seemed delicious

His voice, the way he was sprawled on the bed, his unintentionally aloof behavior of the last couple days also seemed very attractive to her.

How can Charu not love this guy?

She mentally beat up on Charu for a half hour

Tried to google their joint names since she didn't have Charu's last name, just so her image would pop up

Unsuccessful!

If she hadn't left him, he would be married and would have fathered his love/lawfully wedded child

"So consider yourself lucky you got to taste his hotness her wicked mind shut her up

She relived how he made love to her pinning her on the living room wall that one evening

Her arousals the past 4 weeks were more acute and penetrating, she could actually feel the throb physically

She wondered how the orgasms would be..

After 4 bouts of nausea, read the paper when she saw him up at 8 after walking the dog, "I am going to catch more zzzs he grinned going back to bed

Toast followed her as she got ready for work

She left home at 9, packing herself idli and sambar in his mother Neeru's containers.

For the first time in Delhi she was carrying lunch to work

Rohan had liked the Golf Links proposal shockingly, she had received a "Quite good that next day

Shocking herself enough that she went back to look at what she had even sent, she had missed many key data points but he seemed to have gone easy on her

She sat in traffic feeling the "pressure her belly was tighter, skin stretching enough to be itchy

She had looked at her reflection in the mirror the bulge was visible now

She wondered how big the "baby was... must be asleep she decided, that's why no kicking (silly girl! A 11 week old doesn't KICK)

Must be like Avyaan... loving her sleep

God! Hope she didn't like dogs

I am going to make sure Toast doesn't come anywhere near her

Easy to gobble a baby

Her mother called as she walked from the parking spot to the building

"Why are you breathless magoo?

"Oh nothing Samidha was shocked she was beginning to run out of breath

"U don't feel it? her mother was shocked

"Mmm..mm

"Leave home early, cross the road carefully, drive slowly love

"Yes mother

"Dad was hoping to come for Dusshera and bring you back... for a week

She became terrified when she heard that

"Ma I am really busy

"You only said your friends want to see Mysore Dusshera, Shivu wants to go to Singapore with his friends, if you come we will feel happy

"Why are you sending him to Singapore?

"He wants to go

"Am I the only adult in the family? she gasped as she panted and walked

"What is going on? Why are u so agitated? Its only 3.5 days her mother exclaimed

"Umm... hmm... umm.. never mind "he is too young to go to a foreign country without us

"that little rat... that's why he hasn't called me, because he was too busy working this trip

Samidha had to catch her breath, stairs, being pregnant, renewed anxiety over how to tell her parents, protectiveness about Shivu was causing her to lose it

"Are u OK?

"Hmm she said somberly

"Ma I am in my cube she whispered

"Call me at lunch she ordered as always

She nodded and hung up

The thoughts about the baby's cuteness and character traits flew out the window to be replaced by that mortal fear all over again

She contemplated over who to tell first, boss or parents

Both were dreadful choices

Soon she will start showing, what the heck will she tell Gauri and Samir and her other friends at work

Gawd!!

On an impulse she decided to bite the bullet and tell Rohan

She IMed him "When you have a few minutes

"Sure, my calendar is up to date

She got cold feet again... sweating.. she scrolled his calendar

He had 30 minutes open at 5

"1:1 with Saran she typed

Like she usually did... her heart sank when she connected it to the news she was about to give him.

Saran pregnant with Singh's baby

She waited a couple hours before she actually hit send and spent the whole day being uneasy and perturbed

"How can I help Rohan asked normally

"Its personal she said sipping her water nervously

"Please sit he said waving, with a caring? Worried look on his face

"Are ur parents OK? he enquired

She nodded...

"Brother? he asked

She nodded

"Is it about the findings of the committee that was investigating the covert operation (in Mizoram that took Bik's life?)

She shook her head feeling devastated

Bik gave his life for his country, his wife hooked up with a random guy to get pregnant

"Umm.. I met someone... and we met... weve been meeting for a few months

"That's great news Rohan seemed genuinely happy

She nodded wiping her upper lip nervously

"I am happy for you Samidha he smiled

"Rohan... I am pregnant she said through dry lips

His joy turned to shock, his eyes growing wide but he hid his astonishment under the polite "boss response

"Oh? "Umm.. "OK he nodded as the news registered

"Umm.. yeah

"Is that why you've been so sick? he asked shocked

"I guess

"Oh...

"I haven't told anyone she said

"Oh?

"How can I help? he insisted

"I wanted u to know she said

"Thanks he said sardonically

That's all she had courage for this afternoon, she couldn't bring herself to tell him the baby's father was a company client

AH poor thing will she be able to tell Rohan that avi is the baby daddy

One job kinda done but still company client might become a big issue.

Moms sense everything. Her breathlessness is just the first thing.

It's so sweet that she is imagining about the baby (and includes Avyaan and Toast in the dream picture)

Hopefully she will also feel comfortable talking with Avi in second trimester about her physical needs.
