Much to Naina's disppointment she couldn't speak to Naina on the journey to KMA. The bus was completely full and they had no privacy to speak. By late afternoon Naina and Raj reached KMA and she was desperate by now

Naina: Raj I have to tell you something. I have been trying to speak to you for so many days...

Raj: I am sorry Naina. I know I have been dominating the airtime. One last thing and I promise i'll hear everything you want to say after that.

Naina nodded. Raj blindfolded her and made her sit in front of the mirror. A few seconds later he asked her to open her eyes.

Raj had placed a beautiful diamond pendant around her neck.

Naina: Raj this is beautiful.. I love it.

Raj: Really? I was afraid it was too small and simple. But I couldn't afford anything better right now. And would you wear it tonight?

Naina; Raj it's perfect. And of course I'll weat it tonight.

She leaned over and gave him a gentle peck on the lips.

Raj sat down on his knees and took Naina's hands in his.

Raj: Now tell me what's wrong? Why do I see this anxiety on your face?

KNOCK ON THE DOOR

Orderly: Major Shekhawat!

Raj: Damn it! Come in.

Orderly: Sir, Brigadier Chandok wants to see you right now?

Naina nudged Raj and asked him to go.

An hour later Raj called to apologize to Naina and say that he was stuck with Brigadier Chandok.

Raj: I am really sorry Naina. I'll even be late for the ball. But you get ready and be there on time. And I promise we'll talk immediately after the ball.

Naina: It's ok Raj. I understand.

Raj: And promise me you'll stop worrying. I want to see a huge smile on your face when I see you tonight. I love you!

Naina: Love you too!

Naina was feeling very helpless. But she knew her hands were tied. She got ready for the ball and felt slightly better as she placed Raj's pendant around her neck.

Naina (thinks): I don't know what turn our relation will take after tonight. but you are more recious to me than all the diamonds in the world.

a couple of hours later Raj was rushing to his room to get ready. He was suprised to find the door open. He hoped Naina wasn't waiting for him.

He was shocked to see Abhi sitting in his room.

Raj: What are you doing here?

Abhi: Raj, my friend. Is that the way old friends talk?

Raj: We aren't friends and I am surprised we ever were. The way you have treated Naina...

Abhi: Aaah... Naina... Even if you refuse to be friends with me, we'll always be connected because of Naina.

Raj: What rubbish... what connection.

On the other side Naina was looking for Raj near Brigadier Chandok's office. An orderly told her that the meeting had gotten over 20 minutes back and he had seen Raj talking with Abhimanyu in their room. Naina turned pale and immediately ran towards their bedroom.

Abhi: It's funny na? You married Naina, she's your better half etc etc. But i am the man she lost her virginity to.

Raj: Shut up Abhimanyu and get out.

Abhi: Before I leave, how was the honeymoon? 10 days. Remote village. Cold climate. Must have been a lot of fun. Did you guys get out at all or were you in bed all day?

Abhi winked and Raj's anger boiled over. He was beginning to push Abhi out.

Abhi: Let me at least finish my explanation at least. So Naina went on a honeymoon with you. But before that she celebrated her suhaagraat with me.

Raj froze and Abhi seizing the opportunity continued talking.

Abhi: You know the day Lala Gehlot was arrested and you slapped and humiliated her? Naina realized who was the right man for her and we had such a special night together. I mean, it wasn't our first time. But when we had first made love together when Naina was at NDA, she was a virgin, young and inexperienced. But this time our bodies were on fire together. Our chemistry...

Raj had shoved Abhi to the wall and was holding him by the collar. Just then Naina burst through the doors.

Abhi: Aaah... Naina. The woman of the hour. I was just telling Raj about our special night. Why don't you ask her?

Raj: Shut up! I said shut up you b**tard. You think you can brainwash me with your nonsense? You think I'll question Naina based on your nonsense? I swear to God I'll kill you if you say a word further.

Abhi: There... there...Raj. Before you kill me why don't you look at Naina once? Come on Naina. You always tell the truth. Tell Raj. Didn't we make love that night?

Naina: No we didn't make love.

Abhi was shocked. He hadn't expected Naina to lie. Just as Raj began to relax, Naina continued.

Naina: But I did have sex with him.

Naina continued talking explaining why she had done what she had. Begging him for forgiveness. Professing her love for him. But Raj didn;t hear a word after the first line. A few minutes later he turned to Naina.

Raj: You had sex with Abhimanyu? While being married to me?

Naina (in a small voice): Yes. But...

Raj gestured Naina to stop. The look in his eyes silenced her completely.

Raj pushed Abhi out of the room and shut the door.

He went and sat on the bed and buried his face in his head. There was complete silence as Naina looked on helplessly.

Suddenly Raj almost jumped from the bed and reeled against the wall. He looked at the bed with anguish and pain. Naina went up to him and touched his shoulder. Raj shivered and moved away. Still looking at the bed, he asked Naina:

Raj: How many times on this bed?

Naina: I don't understand.

Raj: How many times did you and Abhi "make love" on this bed?

Naina(weeping): Raj, what are you saying? It was just the once. I have never even let Abhi enter this room.

Raj (sarcastically): Oh I am sorry. This room is too ordinary for you. After all your lover is a prince, isn't he? Only palaces and presidential suites right?

Naina: Raj please! Sleeping with Abhi was the biggest mistake of my life. But it gave me no pleasure. If anything it pained me. Helped me get rid of the numbness I felt after you said I was dead to you?

Raj: Do you know how many times your words have numbed me? If I went and slept with other women each time, I would have slept with half of KMA by now!

Naina: Raj I beg of you.

Raj: I don't understand one thing. When you love Abhi why did you have sex with me last week after you celebrated your suhaagraat with him? It must have pained you so much to be doing that, isn't it? Or were you imagining Abhi while doing it with me?

By now Naina had fallen down on the floor and was howling and shaking her head.

Naina: Raj I only love you!

Raj: No you don't. But I can't understand your game plan? Why don't you just leave me and marry your lover. Is there something more sinister at play like Lala Gehlot? Am I a pawn in a bigger plan again? Will you and your lover "put me to sleep like a useless dog" once you are done?

Everyone plays with my trust! Everyone. But what more can an orphan expect? I should be glad that you graced me by sleeping with me multiple times on our honeymoon.

Look at what you have done to me Naina? I can't believe I am using this kind of language. I never thought i'd use such language with my enemy, let alone my wife.

Raj walked out of the room. Naina knew it was pointless chasing him. She sat down next to the bed and continued crying. Exhausted she fell asleep in that position after a few hours. When she got up next morning she found Raj sleeping on the sofa. Over the next few weeks he didn't talk to her nor did he look at her. In fact when she came close to him he recoiled.

Naina hadn't imagined how painful her mistake would be Raj. Her betrayal had broken him completely. She didn't know if anyhing or anyone could make him whole again.

I hope Rajveer and Naina stays together...

A month had passed and Raj had avoided Naina completely. He worked long hours, took up work at the headquarters over the weekend. When he was in the room, he slept on the sofa. He didn't engage with Naina at all.

Naina was dying inside with this silent treatment. She would have preferred his anger, yelling.

Finally one day Raj spoke.

Raj: I need to talk to you about some thing.

Naina couldn't believe her ears. She was very excited and happy.

Naina: What Raj? Anything? I'll do anything to prove to you that what happened was a huge mistake and I'll make amends.

He handed her an envelope.

Raj: The papers are inside.

Naina opened the envelope and felt the world slip under her feet.

Naina: These are divorce papers?

Raj: Yes. Divorce by mutual consent. Once we sign these, we should be able to get free from each other in a few months.

Naina: Free from each other? Divorce? Why are you doing this Raj? I know I have made a horrible mistake. But give me a chance. Please...

Raj: I can't. I feel suffocated in the same room as you. You are no different from from all the people in my life who have betrayed me. My father. N.D. Gehlot. And you.

Naina continued pleading but she knew he was immovable.

Naina: If you want a divorce go ahead. But we wont get a divorce by mutual consent because I don't consent to it.

Raj:You know what the alternate is?

Naina: Yes. You can file for unilateral divorce on grounds of adultery. And then you can drag me to court.

Raj: Do you know what happens in such court cases?

Naina: Yes. Your lawyer will assassinate my character, tear it to pieces. Perhaps I deserve that. It's better than signing these papers.

Raj: Damn it Naina. Let's end this gracefully.

Naina: I don't want this to end at all.

Raj knew Naina could be stubborn. He spoke to his lawyer about the option of filing for divorce unilaterally while ensuring that Naina's character isn't questioned, she isn't hurt in court. It became obvious to him that no such option existed.

He was walking to KMA absent mindedly when he heard a voice.

Gunny: Rajveer Shekhawat. I understand that now you only have eyes for Naina but don't blatantly ignore your old friends.

Rajveer smiled and hugged Gunny.

Raj: Gunny, my friend. How are you?

Gunny: Perfect. I have some good news and bad news for you. I am joining KMA as the new guerilla warfarer expert and I am now going to be a perpetual kebab mein haddi between Naina and you. After all I was the only one present at a wedding. I can't tell you how happy I am for you.

Raj turned pale and pursed his lips.

Raj: Gunny I need to go for my class. But come with me and sit in our room. Naina should get free soon and she'll enjoy meeting you.

He left Gunny in the room and moved towards his class. He ran into Naina.

Raj: Naina, Gunny is here. I left him in our room. What happened? Why are you looking so nervous.

Naina: Raj, the divorce papers are lying on the coffee table.

The two of them ran to the room. But they were too late. Gunny already had the papers in his hands and he looked furious.

Gunny: What's this Raj? Naina? Raj you call me your best friend and Naina I thought you said I helped fill Naveen's place in your life?

Raj: I am sorry Gunny. This is a recent development. We would have told you

Gunny: What happened Raj? I spoke to you when you were planning your honeymoon. You were over the moon. And Naina weren't you thrilled to me joining KMA so that you could be with Raj?

Raj: We discovered we have irreconcilable differences.

Gunny: Bullshit. Naina why aren't you saying anything?

Naina: Gunny we have had problems.

Gunny: Who doesn't?

Raj: It's our personal matter. I'd prefer if you stayed out of it.

Gunny walked out angry and hurt. He knew that Raj and Naina were hiding something. He walked around and suddenly thought of someone who could help him.

Gunny: Captain SS! How are you?

Shalini: Major Gunny!!! What a pleasant surprise. I haven't seen you years.

Gunny: Well we'll make amends for that! I am joining the faculty of KMA.

Shalini yelled with joy and hugged him.

Gunny: I wish my arrival had been as joyous. Naina and Raj want to get a divorce.

Shalini: Oh my God! I knew something was wrong. Raj keeps avoiding Naina and Naina keeps trying to engage with him. I don't know about Raj, but Naina's behavior doesn't suggest she wants a divorce.

Gunny: Hmm, I thought so too. We need to corner Naina alone if we want to get to the truth.

They got their opportunity a week later.

Gunny and Shalini walked in to find Naina alone in her room.

Naina: Gunny I am sorry about what happened last night. You know you are very important to us but this is a difficult phase.

Gunny: Of course I understand. In fact I am sorry. I thought about it and I think you are making the right decision.

Naina: What?

Shalini: Of course. Raj was never good enough for you. This was just a contractual marriage isn't it?

Gunny: And you can go abck to Abhi. Marry him and become the Princess of Barmer.

Naina: Enough, Stop it both of you. I only love Raj. I have no intentions of marrying Abhi. Heck I don't even want to divorce Raj.

They heard the sound of clapping anf found Raj at the door.

Raj: Really Naina? You let them trap you this easily? And touch Gunny and doc.

Shalini: We are sorry Raj, Naina. But we only want to help. It's heart wrenching to see two people who love each other so much split up. Yes, Raj. You love Naina. More than anything else in the world.

Gunny and Shalini: Guys tell us what happened?

Naina: I'll tell you guys. No Raj don't stop me. Everyone has to find out some day and these guys are our friends. I had a one night stand with Abhimanyu when our marriage was going through a rough patch during the Lala Gehlot episode. I have begged and pleaded for forgiveness but Raj can't forgive me.

Gunny: Naina how could you hurt Raj this way?

Naina: He didn't deserve it I know. And I am willing to do anything to make amends. But Raj thinks that divorce is the only option.

Raj: Naina you know my take on the issue. Trust is more important than love. Especially at my life where I have always experienced betrayal. Right from my birth. Then Lala Gehlot. Now you.

Finally Naina lost her cool.

Naina: STOP IT RAJ. STOP IT. OVER THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF YOU HAVE CONSTANTLY COMPARED ME TO LALA GEHLOT. YOU REALLY THINK OUR ACTIONS ARE THE SAME? HE TRICKED YOU INTO LEADING YOUR BEST FRIEND TO HIS DEATH, WHO BY THE WAY WAS MY BROTHER. HE WANTED TO KILL YOU. YOU THINK MY MISTAKE IS THE SAME?

GO AHEAD. DRAG ME TO COURT. CHARGE ME WITH ADULTERY. SHRED MY CHARACTER TO PIECES. BUT STOP COMPARING ME TO MY BROTHER'S KILLER.

Raj: Naina... I... may have over reacted.

Naina: Raj I am done begging to you. DONE!

Naina left the room crying and Shalini ran after her.

Raj: Gunny, you know how difficult it is for me to be betrayed.

Gunny: I know. But are you sure you aren't letting your past influence the way you deal with Naina's mistake? She doesn't deserve to be compared to Lala Gehlot. In fact, she lost more than you because of that betrayal. And she doesn't even know how your father betrayed your mother and you.

Raj: Gunny, did I go overboard? I think I have channelized my anger for Lala Gehlot and my father into the conversations I have had with Naina. I shouldn't have done this.

Gunny: Raj, your marriage will need a lot of effort and work. But it deserves it. It's worth it.

Raj was very remorseful about how he had let his past influence the way he dealt with Naina. He tried making amends but by now Naina was exhausted and tired. She didn't want to engage with him any more. The next few days were hard with Raj trying to find ways to engage with Naina and Naina fast losing hope about their relation.

Raj was coming back from a jog one evening when he ran into an orderly.

Orderly: Sir Dr Shalini is looking for you. She wants you to come to the hospital immediately. Lieutenant Naina fainted this afternoon while taking a class.

Raj rushed to the hospital and ran to Shalini's cabin.

Raj: Doc is Naina ok?

Shalini: She just regained consciousness and is sitting in my cabin.

They walked inside.

Naina: Shalini let me go. It's nothing. It's just exhaustion. I have been feeling fatigued for the last month.

Shalini: And that's usually a symptom Naina. I ran some tests. We should get the reports any minute... Aaah. They are here.

Raj: Shalini, what doe the reports say? Your silence is making me nervous.

Shalini: Guys I know the last few weeks haven't been easy. But life often as a way of springing surprises and happiness.

Raj: Doc get to the point.

Shalini: Here take the report and read it for yourself.

Naina took the report and she and Raj read it together.
