YOUR DAUGHTER SHALL MARRY SHIVA
A stunned silence enveloped the room. The expressions on everyone's faces almost made Shiva want to laugh out loud. He looked at Parvati, whose lips were tilted upwards, yet, was trying hard to frown and failing. He grinned at her, and looked back at her parents.
"I..., faltered Maharaja Himavan.
"You promised me anything I wanted Maharaja. Your daughter is who I want, said Shiva, a smile on His lips.
"I can't give you her hand in marriage, said Maharaja Himavan, after taking a deep breath and muttering "Vishnavae Namah!
"Why so?, asked Shiva, eyes narrowed.
"She is already promised to someone else, said Maharaja Himavan, now gaining confidence.
"Then you should have known what to say when, said Shiva, frowning, though His eyes showed the delight He was having in the direction in which the conversation was headed. "Who is the man?
"He is not just any man, oh kind sir, said Queen Menavati. "He is the Deva of all Devas, Lord Mahadeva Himself
The mendicant laughed loudly, and asked, "Why is your daughter marrying Shiva of all people?
"She wants to marry Him. In her entire life, she has never asked for anything except Lord Shiva. When she finally gets Him, I cannot deny her that, said Maharaja Himavan.
"And the promise you gave me?, asked the mendicant, now roaring in pretend anger.
"Kill me for having to break it, said Maharaja Himavan. "But I cannot go against my daughter's Dharma and heart
Everyone watched with a bated breath, waiting for the mendicant's words. Suddenly, a smile broke on the face of the mendicant, and He said, "As you wish. Your daughter shall marry Shiva
Saying thus, the mendicant took the glowing form of Mahadeva, causing everyone to gasp.
"Narayana and Brahma both advised me, oh King, said Shiva, addressing the Himalaya Raja, "To come to you and ask for Parvati's hand in marriage myself. For that alone did I stage this drama. Will you now tell me the answer to my question?
The King of the Himalayas folded his hands in a daze.
"Oh Lord of all Lords, my answer is a resounding yes, said Maharaja Himavan. "Forgive me, oh Shankara, for my words earlier
"Not at all Maharaja. It is your love and understanding of your daughter that uplifts Parvati's tapasya much more, said Lord Shiva. "The Saptarishis will soon arrive here, with the official wedding proposal
Saying thus, with a last intense, loving, passionate glance at Parvati, Shiva Shankara disappeared, causing Parvati to stare at the spot He had stood in for a long time.
"Brahma will draft the proposal, announced Vishnu, as Shiva walked towards His usual rock on Kailash.
"And you will do what Vishnu?, asked Shiva, innocently.
"I will hover around and annoy you as much as I feel like, Shiva, said Vishnu, more innocently.
"I deal with two children all the time, said Brahma, rolling His eyes at both of them.
"And I deal with them too
Suddenly, Sesha appeared from thin air, grinning innocently at Vishnu and Shiva, both of whom rolled their eyes at Sesha.
"You do. Poor son, said Brahma, sarcasm dripping in every word.
"Pitamaahhh, said Sesha, whining. "Ask my Maas. They will tell you how innocent I am, and how not innocent Prabhu here is
"Prabhu now? You called me Paa in my head not two seconds ago, said Vishnu, amused.
"I will call you what I feel like Paa, said Sesha. "Now, what can I do to help? It is after all, Chote Paa's wedding
"Chote Paa now?, asked Shiva, sighing. "I am stuck with you also now?
"You are, said Sesha, cheerfully. "Now, what can I do?
Parvati joyously watched, as the decorations for her wedding were happening in high efficiency. She wanted to help, but her mother told her to relax and simply watch.
"Parvati?
Parvati turned, and grinned widely, as tears of joy ran down her cheeks.
"Jiji!, said Parvati, looking at the woman dressed in pure white clothes.
"I am so glad that you are getting married to the Lord of your dreams, said Ganga, as she and Parvati hugged each other tightly.
"Jiji, I am so glad you came, said Parvati. "Maa and Pitashree are going to be incredibly happy
"I hope so too, said Ganga. "Let's go and see them?
Parvati walked with Ganga, her mind suddenly going back to a memory of her sisters from her previous birth. The wives of Chandra. Shaking off the nostalgic feeling, Parvati walked with Ganga, smiling in excitement as she imagined her parents faces when they see Ganga.
"Hey Saptarishi!, said Lord Shiva. "I request you to take this beautiful wedding proposal that Lord Brahma has drafted to Maharaja Himavan, requesting Parvati's hand in marriage for me
"Tell the King how Mahadeva Himself yearns to marry Parvati, for her devotion was such, that He was absolutely bound by her love, said Lord Vishnu, smiling innocently at Mahadeva.
"I am, and I always will be, said Lord Shiva, softly. "You and Swayam are the same with your respective wives
"We indeed are, said Lord Brahma, smiling.
"Please go, oh Great Sages!, said Lord Shiva. "Put forth my proposal to Maharaja Himavan
"As you say Prabhu!, chorused the Sages.
With a bow to the Trimurti, the Seven Sages left, all delighted about the proposal they were going to put forth.
Parvati smiled joyously. She knew that the Saptarishis were coming soon, to put forth the marriage proposal. Shyly, she smiled, dreaming of the day she would marry her Shiva.
