She was on the phone then, and promptly relayed the news to her extended family
"Suvi got off a car driven by a man, looks like a married man, because a child was sitting in the back seat"
Suvi went inside her complex in daze
She went up set her purse and laptop bag down and wandered to the bedroom and realized Aadhya wasnt there
Immediately it felt like a shot in the head, she panicked and ran to the living room and picked up her purse
Before that picked up her laptop and took it to her Godrej and locked it up
Her sudden fear of Tai manifesting itself as crazy behavior
Tai came in from the balcony
"Did u send ur daughter somewhere?" she asked as if she cared
"I got late at work" Suvi mumbled
"It happens!!" Tai nodded with a smirk
Suvi ran down and found the rickshawwala waiting
"Kuch bhool gayin kya?" he asked
"Bachi" she said sadly
Aadhya was almost in tears
She gathered her in her arms and stood hugging her
The playschool lady wasnt too happy either it was 7:27
They close at 7 she was told
Suvi apologized to her and offered to pay one full day's fee as penalty
The lady's face lit up
Suvi bought Frooti and Oreos for Aadhya from the nearest DDA market and they rode the same rickshaw home
Tai glared at the giant box of cookies
when Aadhya set it down she walked over to examine it contents and grabbed like 6 and went back to her fave spot
Adhya began to cry loudly by the time Suvi came out of the shower, ready to cook dinner
"Ur daughter is a cry baby" she was told dismissively
"I agree" Suvi nodded, carrying her inside
She had leftover fish in the frig, or so she thought
Tai had eaten it ALL
Enough for 4 people?
Maybe she partied with a neighbor?
Suvi chuckled imagining Tai dancing in the living room
She thought about Neel
Ran to her purse and brought out the apple
Tai noticed... "Huh! payment in kind?" Tai wondered
Suvi cut it up for her daughter, as she made egg curry for dinner with rice
They ate close to 10 PM watching Suvi's fave Marathi soap
Tai pretended not to hungry and ate half of what she had made
Suvi stood in the balcony until midnight soaking in the 42C muggy April heat
She wondered if she should say something to Neel
She typed
"I am so sorry to hear about your wife. I am also sorry assumed she must have loved the fruit shopping."
She changed her mind thinking he was her boss and he didnt expect "comfort or compassion from his direct reports
She scrolled to Varsha's texts, hoping she could talk
But singapore was much farther ahead, she realized texting her now would only piss Varsha off
Aadhya sneezed multiple times.
She wandered back in, Tai snored with her mouth open, Adhya lay curled up, cold with no blanket on, the AC on full blast
She lowered the AC to a 2 from a 5, Tai grunted and cursed in Marathi
Suvi made a face and left it at 2
"WHy did u do THAT for?" Tai yelled in Marathi
"My daughter is cold" Suvi explained
"So? Put her in the other room" Tai said cynically
"How about YOU go buy urself a new AC and sleep in the other room?" Suvi said boldly, for the first time in her life
NOT realizing it came out louder than she thot.😭😕
When Suvi had sneezed she had accidentally hit send on her phone text
Neel responded
"Thank u Suveccha" the phone glowed bold and blue...
