Chapter 14

Angad was fixing his motorcycle when I walked outside. "Angad. Lets go." He stood up and stared at me for a second. "Go? Go where?" I sighed and hit his head with my hand. "To the hospital! Duh!"

"The hospital?"

"Yes. I have to speak to Anu. Shall we?" I pointed towards the motorcycle and he nodded. We both got on it and he turned the ignition on. "Hold on to me Kripa." I hesitated and I knew he felt weird because I always held on to him but not this time. "Its okay Angad. I'm fine."

"You sure?" I nodded and took a deep breath. "I am."

"OK then." He drove off really fast and unwantingly, I held on to him. God! Please save me from this.

"Mr. Khanna. You both can go in now." I looked at the doctor as she stood in front of Anu's door and smiled. I looked at Angad and quickly got up. "Please. I want to see her alone for a few minutes." He nodded and sat back down as I hesitantly walked to her room.

When I walked in, she was still on her bed. In the same position. Her head turned to the window, her eyes looking outside at the bright sunlight that she hadnt felt for the past 2 years or more. "Hey Anu!"

Her head suddenly turned towards me and she moved back, scared perhaps. "What are you doing here?" Freaked out myself, I smiled a little and walked closer. "Its me. Kripa. Remember? I came here to meet you with Angad. With Prince."

"Prince.." I saw the smile on her face. She suddenly seemed like she came out of a trance. "Angad...." When she started crying, I ran towards her and took her in my arms. "Its okay, Anushka. Its gonna be alright now. Trust me. I'm gonna take you out of this." She looked up at me with those teary eyes. "No one can take me out of this. I just have to live all my life here and then eventually die..right here. In this bed."

"No you dont!" I smiled and caressed her forehead. "Trust me. I'm gonna help you come out of this. I'm here to take you home. Will you come with me?" She let go of me and looked away. "No. I cant go home. I cant...what if. what if I hurt them again?"

"you wont. you have to promise me that you wont!" She looked down for a few seconds and then looked at me. "I wont. I wont hurt them!" I saw the determination on her strong face and it made me smile. "Yes, you wont."

When I walked out of her room, Angad was still sitting outside. "How is she?" I placed my hand on his shoulder and frowned. "Angad...the doctors say that Anu wont survive in this hospital for too long." He took a step back and shook his head. "What do you mean?" He had that look on his face that was expecting something horrible. "Please Angad, I need you to sit down. I know this is hard but we can do this."

"Do what?" His face turned stronger with anger. "I dont want to do anything but make sure my sister is fine." I nodded my head with a yes and helped him sit. "Angad, please listen to me carefully. The doctors said that Anushka wont be living here for too long..." He placed his face in his hands and leaned forward with frustration. "..but thats because we are gonna take her home!"

He looked at me all of a sudden with a completely shocked expression. "Yes, angad. she's coming home."

"What?" He suddenly got up with a huge smile. "I mean..what did the doctors have to say about this?"

"They said that it'll be better for her. She needs love more than anything. Really."

He nodded and then sat down. "You know Kripa. I always wanted to take her home. But she refused to even talk to me. I know why though. Its because she's scared of hurting me. I was so scared of her hurting herself that I never made a decision of bringing her home. No one even tried to convince. Prince tried but...he never took that initiative to do it himself. You have Kripa. And I dont know what to say. I just...I...thanks Kripa." His smile made me feel so wonderful. His hazel eyes shone like the sun and his sweet smile made my heart melt. It made all those feelings evolve again even when I had made up my mind to do nothing about it.

It had been 3 months for me in that house and I had tried my best to fix everything. Ronnie and Josh had started to help out more instead of partying all the time. The gang had started to spend more time with each other instead of by themselves. Even though my first impression of Prince was this guy who was a casanova, I had come to know more about him. Now I knew that behind his smiling and calm exterior was an ocean of emotions that had changed him forever and only Anushka Khanna could control those emotions. Sam had started to feel like he belonged again. Angad had forgiven him for whatever he had done after realizing that it wasnt really his fault. I mean, they were best friends since they were younger and I know its impossible to forget relationships that had once been a major part of our lives. Angad and Sim looked happier in the last couple of weeks than I had ever seen them but I could see the uncomfortable behavior sometimes. I guess that was normal. And..I felt pretty good about myself. I didnt know I had the capability of making a difference. I was in debt to this great gang for giving me a chance to actually make a difference.

The cab suddenly stopped and I came out of my thoughts. I smiled to myself and looked at Anu sitting next to me. "You okay?" She smiled and nodded. I felt so good now. So what if I hadnt gotten the person I loved? Atleast I got to make him happy. What else could make me happier than his own happiness? Nothing. And my last piece of the puzzle was Anuskha.

"Kripa? Can I tell you something?" I nodded my head and placed my hand on hers. Angad wasnt in the cab. He said he was going to drive back on his motorcycle. "Go ahead Anu. You can tell me anything."

"I just..I dont know how to say it. I dont want to insult you by saying thank you and so I wont. I just want to tell you how happy you have made me. I hope you get whatever you've wished for." I smiled at the thought. I wish I could get him. He's the only thing I wished for and the only thing I didnt want to lose. "Thanks Anu. But you know what I want? I want you to be happy now. You're gonna see Prince soon and I know how much you love him so you better start smiling young lady!" She nodded at my cheerful tone.

"Kripa...you promise to stand by me right?" I looked into her innocent green eyes that made my heart melt and my lips curve. "I promise..but only if you promise to let me help you."

"I promise. I dont wannna see her anymore and I'll do anything..anything to get rid of her."

"Her? Who is she?"

"That girl. She's always around. She told me her name was Tia. Tia chopra. She said Angad had tried to harm her before and now he's trying to kill me."

"What else does she tell you?"

"A month ago she told me that Angad had drugged me to get rid of me. I know thats not true. I know he loves me but I dont know what happened to me at the time and I believed her."

"And she comes to meet you everyday?"

"Almost. But I know she's always around. The doctors she's all in my head but I know she's real. I can touch her. I can hear her. I see her!! it has to be real. She has to be real." So this was her hallucination. This girl. Tia chopra. She was the one in her imagination that made her believe against Angad. I had to make this girl disappear. And I was going to accomplish it.

"Dont worry Anu. I believe you. But look at me. Look into my eyes. Tia Chopra. Do you know her from anywhere else?" She stared at me for a few seconds and then nodded her head. "Yes. I knew her when I was a junior in high school. She was a good friend but then we had a fight about Angad and she left. I heard she moved to a different city. A few years later I heard that she died in a car accident but I guess she didnt. She's real Kripa. I know she's real."

"Anu. I'm going to tell you something now that you might not believe but its true. Tia Chopra was my friend in college. She's dead now."

"No she's not!" She didnt want to believe me.

"Anu you need to believe me. You promised me you would. Tia Chopra is dead. I saw her die in front of my eyes. She's not coming back."

"But she's real!" I didnt know what to say. I had to prove it to her.

I rang the door bell and waited for someone to open it. "Where are we?" Anu asked me. I had not told her that we were going to Tia's house. I had to prove to her that Tia wasnt alive anymore. "You'll fiind out soon."

"Kripa..youre trying to hurt me arent you? Youre going to trap me here right? I know I couldnt trust you. Youre just like the rest. you just..."

"Oh stop it Anu. Remember I promised to help you? I will. you just need to trust me on this." She looked down for a while and then at me. "I'm sorry. I dont..I'm really sorry Kripa. I didnt mean to.."

"Its okay." When the door opened, a middle aged man stood there. He was probably around 50. His hair was thinning and he wore glasses. "Hello Uncle. I'm Kripa. Remember me?" He looked at me for a while and then smiled. "Kripa? Didnt you live with Mr. Talwar?"

I smiled uncomfortably. "Yes. With Mr. Talwar. Uncle, this is Anushka. I dont know if you remember but she used to live around your house about 7 or 8 years ago. Anuskha Khanna."

He stood there for a while again. "Oh yes. Mr. Garv Khanna's daughter right? How is everything? How is Angad? Tia used to talk about him a lot." He smiled in that sad way as he remembered his daughter.

"Wait a minute.." Anu interrupted. "Your Tia's father?" He just stared at her for a few seconds and then nodded. "Where's Tia?" He didnt know how to respond to that. I intervened. "Can we come in Mr. Chopra?" He moved away so we could go in.

I pointed towards the photo of Tia that had a garland over it that signified her death. "Anu..there. Are you now convinced that Tia is no more?" Anu started to hyperventilate and then suddenly sat on the sofa. "This cant be possible. I saw her. I did..."

I sat down next to her. "Anu you have to believe me. It is your imagination. Please. You will be fine. All you have to do is believe it." She looked into my eyes and smiled. "I believe it Kripa. I will!" I saw that determination in her face and her eyes. I nodded with pride. She was going to be fine.

We walked back into Angad's house and saw him sitting on the front porch. When he saw us, he suddenly got up and walked to me. "What the hell Kripa? I got home more than an hour ago. Where were you guys?"

"Dont worry Angad. I just wanted Anu to get some fresh air. Now she's going to be fine. okay?" I looked at him with a confident smile and he somehow nodded back and then looked at Anu."

"Angad. I'm really sorry for whatever I have done so far. The drugs, the pain I gave you..I just want another chance in life, another chance in your life." I looked at the brother-sister relationship and kept admiring them.

"Anu...you have all the chances I can give you. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 100! please. just dont leave me again?"

"I promise." They hugged and I felt that tear at the corner of my eye. I quickly wiped it and walked inside the house.

That weekend we all decided to go out and party to celebrate Anu's comeback in their lives. I sat in the club looking at Prince and Anu dance together. They were the perfect couple, I thought. This morning when Anu and Prince had reunited again, I could see their love still in their hearts as if they had never seperated. I mean it had been more than 2 years since Anu was locked in that hospital and now she was back again and nothing made me happier than the fact that I had something to do with this. I remembered all the times I saw Anu and Prince together and wished that Angad and I shared the same thing.

"Coke?" I turned and looked at Angad standing in front of me. "Thanks" I politely took it from him and sipped some. "what are you looking at?" I guess he noticed me looking at Anu and Prince together. "Nothing. They're just the perfect couple arent they?"

He nodded and leaned back. "I guess. I mean they are in love."

"Yes. Love. Its so hard to find true love these days and I'm happy that they've found it in each other."

"What about you Kripa? Have you found your true love yet?" I looked at him as he asked me this question. Yes, I had found my true love and it was you Angad. All I could do was just laugh. "Oh please Angad..not everyone is as lucky as you are."

"Youre right. I found my true love but its.." He was interrupted by Anu's voice. We all looked at her as she screamed. "Go away!! I dont want to see you again Tia. Just go away!!"

Angad started to run to her but I stopped him. I looked at Prince and he appeared dumbfounded at her behavior. "Just shut up!!!! Angad loves me and he will never hurt me..ever! and YOU DONT EVEN EXIST TIA. youre just my imagination. so go away because I wont believe you anymore. Not now, not ever!!" I smiled. I was proud of her. If she realized that Tia did not exist, she could overcome this illness and be the same Anu again. She just had to believe it.

She walked over to Angad and held his hand. "Look at this Tia. This is my brother. He loves me. You dont. I will never let you destroy my relationship with him. You did it once. It wont happen again. Just get out of our lives!" There was a sudden smile on her face and a calmness in her previously stiff body. I now knew that she would never look back. Tia was gone forever.
