Vijay and Ridhi were outside the venue of the ball, i.e. the hall. Ridhi was walking fast and in front of Vijay as she was still angry with him.

Vijay: "Ridhi ruko na yaar. Hum saath jaa raha hai na, toh tum itna teez kyu chal rahi hoo?" (Ridhi, please stop. We are going together so why are you walking so fast)

Ridhi turned around to and gave a deadly look to Vijay and said with a full attitude...

Ridhi: "Vijay, just because mein tumharay saath jaa rahi hoo, iska matlab yeah nahi hai ki mein tum se aaj subha kay liya naaraj nahi hoo" (Vijay, just because I am going with you does not mean that I am no longer angry at you for this morning.)

Vijay: "Aare yaar Rifhi, chord na. Woh saab to mazzak tha." (Forget it, Ridhi. It was just a joke)

Ridhi with anger: "Woh joke tum haray liya hoga magar meri liya woh wk insult tha. Tum hai lagta hai ki aapne dosto kay saam ne mera maazak udakar tum aap ne aap ko bade dude samaj tay ho, hai na? Magar mera kya, meray reputation, mer issat ko aisa uuchalkar..." (It must have been a joke for you, but it was an insult for me. You think that you are a dude, when you talk about me behind your back, right? But what about me, you don't even care about my reputation, my respect...)

With that Ridhi stormed away wiping her tears.

On the other hand Abhijeet and Prerna were in a whole different world. There unsaid emotions were showing clearly in their faces. The walls that Abhijeet had built around himself, was beginning to drop in front of Prerna. Prerna was also in a dilemma of what she feels for him.

Abhijeet: "Tum sach mein bohot khubsurat lag rahay ho" (You are looking really beautiful)

Prerna: "Tum ne yeah pichle 5 minute mein 10 baar kaha hai" (You have said that 10 times in the past 5 minute)

Abhijeet: "Toh kya hua, jo sach hai wohi to kaha hai. (So what, I am only saying what is true)

Prerna blushed deep crimson and Abhijeet got lost within the warm color of her cheeks.

Asha and Shaad were also on their way to the ball...

Asha: "Shaad I am sorry"

Shaad: "Aare aap hum se mafi kyu maang rahi hai." (Why are you apologizing to me?)

Asha: "Main ne aaisay sab kay saam ne keah diya ki hum saath freshner's ball attend kar kahay hai. Ek baar bhi mein ne yeah nahi socha ki syaad tum kisi aur kay saath ..." (I said we are going to the fresher's ball together. I didn't even think one that may you would want to go with someone else)

Shaad: "Aisay koi baat nahi thi. Hum mein khud nahi pata tha ki hum kis kay saath jaai, is liya socha tha ki hum jaaigay hi nahi. Aur aap ne jo kiya, woh aapni saachi chpanay kay liya kia" (It is nothing like that. I didn't know who to go with myself, so I had decided not to go at all. And you did all this to hide your truth.)

Asha gave Shaad a smile and a look of adoration before both entered the hall. They both walked up to the hot-meter. Asha scored a 10/10 while Shaad scored a 9/10. Giving each other similes they headed up to a table.

Asha: "Lagta hai Prerna, Abhi, Vijay, aur Ridhi abhi tak nahi poochay"

Shaad was about to answer when there was a sound of balloon pooping, as another couple entered. To everyone's surprise it was Huda and Shalini. They went to the meter and Huda and Shalini both scored 8/10. They walked up to where Asha and Shaad were sitting. After exchanged some greeting and compliments another couple entered. This time it was Vijay and Ridhi. The meter gave Vijay a 10/10 while Ridhi received 8.5/10. Immediately following them was Prerna and Abhijeet. They both received 9/10. Now all of the 6 cadets were sitting and waiting for Abhimanyu to make an entry so the party could start. It was fortunate that because of the shoulder injury Niar recived he was not attending. In the meantime there was an interesting discussion going on at the table.

Prerna with a teasing tone: "Maa, waisay dad ko pata hai ki app inki date ban kar aaehai...kyu ki agar un hai pata chal gaya ho" (Maa, does dad know that you have come as his date...because if he finds out)

Huda: Prerna tuj hai kya lagta hai, main tera dad, us yudia, se darta hoo" (Prerna, you think that I am afraid of your dad, yudia)

Vijay: "Lagta kissi ko nahi hai, kyu ki sab ko pata hai ki aap ki yudi chachu se kitni phat thi hai" (No one think because everyone knows how much Yudi Chachu scares you)

This caused there to be some back forth discussion between the two, while Asha sat their think how times had changed. He humble, and innocent yudi manu was now tough who could scare the big and tough Huda. Time really has changed' she thought. Shalini noticed that she was lost in her own would so she snapped her fingers.

Shalini: "Kya hua Cadet Singh, Everything ok?" (What happened Cadet Singh, Everything ok?)

Asha: "Nothing ma'am. Bas soch rahi thi ki di kaha reah gayi" (Nothing ma'am. Was just thinking where di was)

Ridhi: "Who rahi tumhari Priyanka di..." (There goes your Priyanka di")

She pointed at the top of the stair from which Priyanka and Raghuvendra were descending He headed straight to the hot meter. Raghu was score 8.25/10 while Priyanka received 9.5/10. After a couple of minute Abhimanyu entered and everyone was shocked to see who was with him. It was none other than his wife Akriti adorned in a simple white sari with a single necklace and her mangalsutra. They ignored the meter and headed toward the center of the dancefloor. Everyone stood up and Huda led Shalini to the dance floor as Raghu and Priyanka also headed there. The Cadets stood in the background and watched their teachers perform formal dance ad they were getting bored, even Suriji and Lolita. Very soon some cadets changed the song to filmy song and the 6 got out of the dance floor as the cadets filled in.

Asha and Shaad walked up to Abhimanyu and Akriti

Asha: "Hello sir hello ma'am"

Abhimanyu: "Hello cadet Singh, I must say you are looking gorgeous."

Asha: "Thank you sir"

Abhimanyu: "You are must welcome, but what are you kiddos doing out here. Shaad how can you let a chance to dance with such a gorgeous lady slip."

Akriti: "I agree...Shaad jab khubsurat ladki saath mein ho toh uss se intazaar nahi kar vana chaiya" (I agree...Shaad, when you are with such a beautiful girl then you should not keep her waiting)

Shaad: "Nahi, aisa koi baat nahi hai" (No, it is not like that)

Akriti: "Toh phir jaa kar dank a scene shoot karo...matlab jao aur dance karo" (Than go and shoot the dance scence...meaning go and dance)

Nodding them both headed towards the dance floor. They song Saturday Saturday was playing. They had just started dancing when half-drunk Suriji got hold of the mike.

Suriji: "Suno, suno, suno. Aab wakt aa gayi hai, Mr aur Ms fresher announce karna ka. Toh Mr. Fresher hai...Cadet Vijay Huda" (Listen, Listen. Listen. The time has come to announce the Mr and Ms Fresher. So Mr. Fresher is...Cadet Vijay Huda")

Roars of claps and screams could be heard as Viajy walked up.

Suriji: "Sani oai khootay. Ms. Fresher hai..." (Quiet. Ms. Fresher is...")

The entire room started screaming Abhilasha.

Suriji: "Bilkul sahi. Cadet Abhilasha Singh" (Absolutely right. Cadet Abhilasha Singh)

Smiling Asha walked up and hugged Vijay.

Suriji: "Ab nacho" (Now dance)

Saying that suriji almost fell due to the alcohol intake, hence like always Lolita had to come and take care of him. Soft slow music started playing and Vijay and Asha started dancing. After a while a couple of people joined the. Taking the opportunity Asha started to question Vijay.

Asha: "Teray aur Ridhi kay beech sab theek hai?" (Everything ok between you and Ridhi)

Asha from the corner of her eyes looked at Ridhi, who was standing at a corner looking lost.

Vijay: "Ha woh mujhse thoda naaraj hai, koi nahi baat nahi hai." (Yes, she is a little angry at me, nothing new)

Asha: "Nahi Vijay who tujse naraz nahi balki dukh hai tujse" (No Vijay, she is not angry at you, but is sad because of you)

Vijay: "Matlab" (Meaning)

Asha: "Matlab, yeah ki tu Ridhi se pyar toh karta hai magar samaj nahi pata" (Meaning, that you love Ridhi, but you are not able to understand her)

Vijay gave her a strange look and Asha took a deep brath realizing that this was going to be harder than expected

Asha: "Vijay, duniya mein bohot kam logo sach pyar kar patay hai, aur un mein se bas kuch hi ko aapna pyar milta hai. Tu bohot lucky hai kay tera paas Ridhi jaise pyar karnay wali hai. Tu aur mein dono jantay hai ki Ridhi kitni emotional hai. Woh khabi kuch kheti nahi, srif dekhti hai, bilkul aapne papa kay jaisay" (Vijay, very few people are able to truly love someone, and even fewer people get their true love. You are very lucky that you have Ridhi, who loves you so much. You and I both know how emotional Ridhi is. She never says anything, she only observes, just like her father)

Vijay: "Ek second, tu Alekh chacha kay bara mein kaisay janti hai" (One second, how do you know about Alekh uncle)

Realizing that she had accidently talked about Alekh, Asha bites her tongue.

Asha: "Ye"yeah Ale---Alekh kyon hai?" (who is Alekh)

Vijay: "Ridhi kay dad, juskay bara mein abhi tu baat ki" (Ridhi's father, whome you just talked about)

Asha: "Muh se nikal gaya hoga. Tu subject change mat kar. Dekh Vijay, tu jitna sakay Ridhi ko khush rakh, kyu ki woh aisa tu jha aur koi nahi milnay wali...aur waisay bhi mera papa kaha kartay thay ek aacha soldier ban ney kay liya ek aacha insaan hona bohot zaruri hota hai"

Vijay: "You are right. So what should I do?"

Asha: "Aara yaar, mein hi sab karu kya. Hum ball mein hai, toh gaan ga, dance kar, jo bhi kaar meri dost ko mana lay aur mujhe uski cheray mein muskaan dekhna hai, aur agar aisa nahi hua na to teray mein..." (Do I have to do everything? We are at a ball, so sing a song, dance, do whatever but impress my friend and I better see a smile on your face otherwise..."

With that Asha left the dance floor. She was about to sit when she heard a voice. She turned around and saw Vijay singing and walking toward Ridhi.

Shocked the two girls looked back, and Asha was relieved to see it was just Shaad while Priyanka was still shocked and worried that someone heard them. Asha and Shaad were talking and enjoying themselves when Ridhi and Abhimanyu came running out with a worried face. Abhimanyu: "Cadet Singh, aabhi aabhi hospital se phone aaya tha. Aaap ki maa ki condition bigard gayi hai aur doctors keah rahi hai ki who..." (Cader Singh, the hospital called just now. You mother's condition has worsen and doctors are saying that...) Asha: "WHAT????" Abhimanyu: "Cadet Calm down and stay strong. Aap ko permission hai abhi issi wakt waha jaana ka, aur Shaad tum inkay saath jao" (Cadet calm down and stay strong. You have permission to go there right now and Shaad you go with her) Asha ran from there wiping her tears as millions horrible thought crossed her mind. Shaad was right beside her. Abhimanyu watched as he felt a deep, gut feeling telling him someone big was about to happen...good or bad. He didn't know why but it felt like someone close to him was suffering and he couldn't understand why he felt such for a cadet's parent. Ridhi put her hand on his shoulder and gave him a small smile. Abhimanyu gathered himself and both headed back inside. Naina's diary----- Fresher's ball. You know Asha, this is KMA's most happening event, but for me it was so much special. That was the first time I realized that Huda might not be that bad...THAT BAD. That day seeing RV made me feel a certain way. He was looking drop dead gorgeous in the suit. I had a stomach twisting deep feeling whenever I saw him. It was as if everything inside of me was crumbling together and dropping down. My mind stopped working when I saw him. I was so confused with my feeling that I asked BC to dance with me... Can you believe it? Anyways, that dance I shared with RV still replays in the back of my mind. That was the most special part of the night, but that RITU had to come and join us and destroy everything. And then there was Madona. And you know what I am proud of Yudi for creating Madona. That was probable the highlight of the ball. I still cannot believe that Alekh knowing it was him went with him. You are very well aware by now that I want you to be an army officer, but it is still up to you. I will never make you full fill my dreams without your consent and happiness, but if you decide to be an officer then enjoy your ball to the fullest. I couldn't enjoy it as much as Ii wanted to because that RUTU clinging on RV was distracting me and Madona pretty much ruined my mood. I want you to know that Fresher's ball is a time to enjoy, so I want you to promise me that IF you go to the ball, you will let nothing come between you and fun. Hey guys,

At the early break of dawn, Shaad parked the jeep in front of the hospital where Naina was kept. He had been driving continuously for the past eight and a half hours and was very tired. Asha was not in any better condition. She had not drove, but she had stared out the window throughout the entire drive and thought about the times she had spent with her mom.

Shaad turned the car off and saw that Asha was still staring into space and had not realized they had reached the hospital. He gently shook and called her name. Coming out of her world Asha saw that they had reached the hospital. Without saying a word she jumped out the jeep and ran toward the hospital. Shaad followed her to Naina's room. When they got there they saw doctors and nurses going and coming in and out of the room. They tried to stop some of the doctors and ask them what was happening, but it seemed like no one had the time to talk. Asha sat down hopelessly and pulled her hair back. Tears were flowing down her eyes and past her chin, but she was not focused on those tears. Shaad stood in a corner as he watched Asha weep. He didn't know what to do. He had never been alone with another female in his life and especially never in this condition. The tears falling down her eyes were affecting him, but he had no idea as to how he could comfort her.

A couple of minutes later another nurse came out and seeing her Asha stood up.

Asha: Sister Didi.

Nurse: Aare Asha, beti hum kab se tum hari intazar kar rahi thay. (Aare Asha, daughter we were waiting for you)

Asha: Kyu, sab...sab kuch theek hai na? Koi bohot badi chinta ki baat to nahi ha na? (Why, is...Is everything ok? Is it something big to worry about?)

Nure: "Baat to thodi chinta ki hai. Tum hani to pata hi hai ki Nainaji key condition mein kuch sudar nahi thi, magar aaj aachanak unki heartrate bohot bard gayi. Hum pechle kuch time unki heart rate ko normal karney ki kosish kar rahi hai, magar woh koi response nahi de rahi. Agar condition teekh nahi hua to syaad hum main operation karni hogi" (It is something to work about. You know that Naina's condition was not getting better, but today her heart rate increased all of a sudden. We have been trying to stabilize her heart rate for the past couple of hours, but she is not giving a response. If her condition does not improve then we will have to operate her.)

Asha: Magar kya yeah dangerous nahi hai. (But is it not dangerous?)

Nurse: Operating a come patient has its risks but at his point we don't have a time.

The nurse left to get some more medication and Asha again fell down on the chair. This time Shaad gathered up the courage and walked up to her.

Shaad: "Asha himmat rakhea, Naina massi ko kuch nahi hoga, hum sab unkay saath hai" (Asha have some hope, nothing will happen to Naina massi, we are all with her)

Asha: "Shaad kaysey rakhu himmat, tum ne suna na ki abhi didi ne kya kaha." (Shaad, how can I have hope, you heard what didi just said)

Shaad: "Haa hum ne suna, magar kya pata Naina massi response karday" (Yes, I heard, but it is possible that Naina massi will response"

****IN KMA****

Back in KMA condition were not better. As soon as the rest of the gang heard the news all of them became shock. Last night after the ball ended they gathered together in the girl's room and prayed for Asha's and her mom's well bring. For unknown reasons they were extremely worried about Asha's mom. They felt connected with her even though they had never met her not had Asha's ever openly talked about her. If only they knew that their entire childhood was filled with the story of Asha's mom.' If only they know that Asha's mom was their dear Naina aunty.

Anyways currently the four cadets were sitting at the Mess, but it was not like usual. They were not talking nor was the mess as rowdy and loud as usual. Suriji was getting paranoid seeing all the cadets sad and depressed.

Suriji: "Arre khotey, kya hua. Aaj itney chup chaap kyu ho?" (What happened idiots? Why are you so quiet today?)

Ridhi: "Suriji, Asha ki maa hospital mein hai, unki tabiat aur bigard gayi hai. Aaisay samay mein hum masti kaysay kar Shaktay hai" (Suriji, Asha's mom is in the hospital, her condition has worsen. How can we think of have fun in this situation)

Vijay: "Mujhe to yeah bhi pata nahi tha ki Asha ki maa hospital mein hai" (I didn't even know that Asha's mom was hospitalized)

Abhijeet: "Mujhe bhi pata nahi tha" (I also didn't know)

Prerna: "Tum dono jhantey ho na ki Asha kitney secretive hay. Usey aappney baray mein baat karna pasand nahi" (You both know how secretive Asha is. She does not like to talk about herself that much.)

Ridhi: "Bas aab toh yehi dua ha ki Asha ki maa jhaldi se theek ho" (Now we just pray that Asha's mom gets better soon.)

Sujiji: "Bharosa rakho uss par. Rab sab theek kar deanu hai" (Have faith in him. God will fix everything)

Priyanka came in the mess and looked around until she saw the gang. She walked to them and talked in a very worried voice.

Priyanka: "Cadet mein peachley kuch ghanto se Asha aur Shaad ki mobile try kar rahi hai, magar dono ki phone switch off aa rahi hai. Tum logo ko kuch pata hai" (Cadets I have been trying to reach Asha and Shaad for the past couple of hours but both of their phones are switched off. Do you know anything?)

Ridhi: "Nahi ma'am hamari kaal raat se une dono se koi baat nahi hui ha" (No, ma'am we have not talked to them scene last night)

Priyanka: "God yeah ladki bhi kitni irresponsible hai. Pata nahi maa ki condition...aur yeah phone bhi..." (God, this girl is so irresponsible. Don't know hoo maa is...and this phone...)

Priyanka looked like she was on the verge of crying. Ssuriji placed her hand o her head in a loving gesture.

Suriji: "Rab pey bharosa rakh putar" (Have faith in god child)

Priyanka was about to say something when they heard a voice from the door.

"KMA ki atmosphere aaj bhi waisay hi hai jaisay kuch 20 saal pehley thi. Aur iss baar bhi ein iss pyaar bhari atmosphere ko thord dunga"" (KMA's atmosphere is still the same as it was about 20 years ago. And I will break this lving atmosphere this time as well)

*****In the Hospital*****

Another half an hour had passed but there was no news about Naina. Doctors and Nurses had stopped coming out. Right now there were two doctors and one nurse in the room. Asha and Shaad were outside. Asha had her head resting on Shaad's shoulder and her eyes were closed. Shaad was leaning back on the chair with his eyes closed. The tiredness of the long drive and the tension of Naina's health had took a toll on the two young cadets.

A doctor walked out of the room. He had mustache and beard that covered his face. Seeing the two young cadets his eyes filled up, but he quickly controlled his emotions and cleared his throat. Hearing the throat of the doctor, Asha and Shaad woke up. As Asha rubbed her eyes Shaad walked up to the doctor.

Shaad: "Doctor abb who kaysi hai?" (Doctor, how is she now?)

Doctor: "Unki condition beethar hai aur heartbeat v stable ho rahi hai. Aap mein se ek jaldi se jaa kar yeah injection lee kar aaea" (Her condition is better and her heart beat is getting stable. One of you quickly go and get this injection)

The doctor hands Shaad a piece of paper and walks off. Just as the doctor is about to turn the corner at the end of the hallway something strikes Asha and she starts running behind him. The doctor sees Asha running behind him and starts to runs off. Asha chases him around the hospital nut is not able to reach him. The doctor sees an elevator in front of him and runs inside of it. Asha is right behind him, but unfortunately the elevator door closes before she could get in. Asha puts her hands on her knees and leans down as she tries to catch her breath. Shaad comes after her and holds she shoulder.

Shaad: "Asha, aap aisay bhaagi kyu us doctor kay peeche" (Asha, why did you run after that doctor.)

Asha: "Kyu ki woh doctor nahi hai" (Because he was not a doctor)

Shaad: "Kya" (What?)

Asha: "Haan. Mein yaha haar rooz aati thi aur yeah hospital bhi itna bada nahi hai, iss liya mein yaha ki hare k doctor aur nurse ko janti hoo, aur iss doctor ko mein ne aaj tak nahi dekha" (Yes. I used to come here every day and this hospital is not that big so I recognize every doctor and nurse and I have seen this this doctor before.)

Shaad: "Asha aap bhi na. Ho Shakta hai ki yeah koi nahi doctor hai." (Asha, you are too much. It could be that this is a new doctor)

Asha: "Nahi Shaad. Jis tara yeah aadmi aapna cheara chupanay key kosis kaar raha tha...aur uskey aakhe...uskey aakhe..." (No Shaad. The way that man was trying to hide his face...and his eyes...his eyes...)

Shaad: "Unki aakhe kya...?" (What about his eyes?)

Asha: "Shaad mein ne unki aakhe pehley dekhe hai, kyuki, kyuki woh aakhe meray dad Capt. Rajveer Singh Shekhawat ki hai." (Shaad, I have seen his eyes before, because, because those eyes belongs to my dad Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat)

Shaad: "Kya..Kya matlab hai aapka" (What ...what are you trying to say.)

Before Asha could reply a nurse came and informed them that Naina was stable and her condition was back to as it was before. Hearing this the two ran towards Naina's room.

Entering the room Asha sat down next to Naina and held her hand, while Shaad stood at the door and saw his Naina massi for the first time. His eyes filled with tears as he thought about the stories he had heard from his ammi and abbu. He was seeing his idol, his inspiration for the first time. His eyes traveled around the room. He was looking everywhere so the tears gathering in his eyes would not come out, and that is when he saw it. Lying on the floor next to the window was a single white handkerchief. He walked up to the window and picked up the handkerchief. He turned it around and on the corner of it were three letters that shook the ground for Shaad. In one corner of the handkerchief there was an initials with the letters R.S.S'

He talked the handkerchief and walked up the Asha. He gently places his hand on her shoulder. She turns around and raises her head as to say what'. He hands her the handkerchief and she looked at him confused. He points to the corner where the initials are stitched and she becomes shocked.

Asha: "Shaad yeah...yeah rumal papa ki hai. Yeah wohi rumal hai jo maa ne papa ko diya tha, bilkul unkay arrest sey pehley." (Shaad this...this handkerchief was papa's. This is the same handkerchief that maa had given papa right before his arrest.)

Shaad: "Matlab aap sahi thi, Capt. Rajveer yaha thay, kyuki yeah hum mein uss window kay paas mila" (Meaning you were right. Capt. Rajveer was here, because I found this next to that window)

Asha: "Shaad iska matlab meray papa zinda hai. Woh zinda ha. (Shaad this means that my papa is alive. His is alive)

Asha jumped happily and hugged Shaad, and Shaad also very uncertainly wrapped his hand around Asha's watch"

That was probably the last time I had a proper conversation with him. Right there outside his jeep right before their field trip. That was the last time I saw him properly. I was so stupid so innocent back then. Yes, I had seen a lot and had been through a lot but I was very stupid when it came to love. It was just the day before when I had realized my love for him, at that too at point 1857, so clich. And what did I do the next day. I gave him a handkerchief. A handkerchief. Really. Anyways after that he gave me a watch. If only I knew that watch was going to be the first and last gift from him. If only I knew what that watch would eventually mean to me.
