Okay, first of all it's not like you missed something but just that I am too choosy to consider a work that I pick for a read.
These might not be the points which everyone would go for - but I do. At least when I actually wish to read something beyond the concept of developing the same story line as the makers do. That gets annoying at times.
Anyways, since you have asked, I will. This might not be the full fledged list. But I will try to point out a few more.
1. Aptly sketched story line. One might have the tendency of not having a pre-planned story line, many of the authors here do. But then writers need to know how to handle things. If you are stuck at a point and unaware of what you exactly wish to do with the story. Then that's a complete off. The connectivity is lost.
It has to be either ways, one has to have complete hold over their conceptualization and materializing efforts that they can manage to write anything and everything, without making the story suffer. Or there has to be a well-though-off, well-planned story layout. Must!
Because if it's not I can drop the story the moment I feel disoriented.
2. Not over-stretched write-ups. Or for that matter vague in terms of what exactly the story is. Being Suspense thriller kind of write-ups would involve a certain level of suspense creation and trying to build up the entire story, there that's required. But overdoing is a complete NO.
3. Being precise.
4. Not involving too many characters, until the need arises to have some. Having friends and family is understood but having unnecessary filler moments involved due to the number of characters one has in the story- which is most of the times not required, I feel - Is a bit tricky, might not work for everyone.
5. Lastly I would sum it up by saying The writer needs to be clear enough and stick to what he/she has planned rather than just hopping onto one suggestion from the other just because the readers don't find the story interesting the way you carry. The writer should be able to make the required justifications about the characterization chosen for the story and proceed. And not keep only using suggestion or change for the critics received.
I might have missed out a few, or maybe not. This might seem to be very much demanding or too much for people. But I am a person who would lose interest easily if things quite fall off the place. *Sigh*
