PART 16

Neha slowly walked towards her house. Her mind still trying to figure out what had happened this evening. She had expected to meet Shiv's best friend Karan, yet it was Natasha that had stood before them. Shiv had introduced her as Karan's annoying younger sister whom he had known since they were children. Neha too had known Natasha since a child, yet suddenly she felt like a complete stranger to her. All evening Neha had sat amidst three childhood friends who joked, laughed and reminisced. Neha smiled occasionally, and tried to laugh at the jokes, but how could she when her mind was elsewhere. She stole glances of Natasha, wondering how she could laugh knowing very well the numerous questions that were arising in Neha's head. But then Natasha's laugh wasn't the one she expected to hear, it was different, it didn't sound as carefree, as it used to. Why had Natasha kept such a big secret from them?

Neha picked up her pace and was almost running towards her house now. If anyone knew the answer to her questions it was Shewta. Shewta and Natasha were best friends and they never kept any secrets from each other. But if Shewta knew, why would she hide it from Neha? No, Shewta could not know? Neha had to go see Natasha again and ask her to answer her questions. Neha stormed into Shewta's room, and started yelling her name.

"Shewta! Shewta?"

"What?" Neha heard Shewta's voice come from the the bathroom.

"We have to go to Natasha's house, come out quickly and get ready."

Neha knew her sister would be another fifteen minutes at least and Neha did not want to think about any thing right now. She had to keep herself busy till Shewta came out. Neha looked around Shewta's room. It was a complete mess, books everywhere. One by one Neha picked up Shewta's books and shelved them. She collected the papers on the floor and placed them in a neat pile on her table. Neha looked around the room once again and was happy to see it clean. But with the task completed the thoughts about Natasha returned to Neha's mind. She once again yelled to Shewta, this time more impatient.

"Shewta, hurry up!"

Neha walked to Shewta's closet in order to pick out clothes for her. She knew her sister would come out wrapped in her towel and would take another twenty minutes just picking out what to wear and Neha could wait no longer. Neha grabbed the first pair of jeans she saw and threw them on Shewta's bed. She then reached into the closet to pull out a sweater. Shewta's closet was just as messy as the room had been a few minutes ago. As Neha pulled he sweater out, a set of pictures spilled out onto the floor of the room. Neha rolled her eyes at her sister's annoying habbit of stuffing random things everywhere. She then bent down to pick up the pictures. What Neha saw next would change everything.
Shewta Shiv. Shiv Shewta. Hand in hand. Smiling. Hugging. Arguing. Teasing. Together?

Neha collected the pictures and placed them back in Shewta's closet. She shut the closet and walked out of Shewta's room. Quiet. For the first time in Neha's life she had no questions in her mind, she did not need any guidance from anyone. Neha knew what she had to do.
