Sorry, I am back again, but wanted to write something more about the state of widows in our cultures which I feel is injustice too.
Being born and brought up in South India, the other major injustice I have noticed is widows are not encouraged to actively participate in rituals during marriages or festivals etc.

For instance, a widow cannot hold a haldi kumkum ka plate or the plate having flowers and such things. Even during weddings they are always found somewhere behind on the stage not at all actively participating in the activities. Sometimes even in their own son's or daughter's weddings, they are hardly given prominence. It hurts to see that rights to participate even in small activities is restricted because a woman is a widow.

Whereas if a man has lost his wife, there are no such restrictions except a very few minor ones. He can do almost all things the other men are doing.

Such inequalities too hurt a lot and many women just accept these injustices as a part and parcel of life.

You know this happened to my aunt (dads sister) at my cousins (dads younger brothers daughter) wedding. They would not let my aunt do a ritua that is her right to do as the brides fathers sisterl...she left the wedding. She has not spoken to anyone in the family since then. It's sad all the way around.

There was a scene in the movie Baabul reflecting exactly what you have stated.

Comments on Chapter 16

What shall I say I loved about Chapter 16?

The moment between Arnav and Mohan as the latter sleeps and the father waits patiently for something that most parents don't even give a second thought about, take for granted?

The fact that you showed us both their perspectives on that (bloody brilliant) first kiss? As someone who believes that stories can change completely tracks just by focusing on different perspectives, it was an absolute treat to see you use the technique so beautifully

Or that little t-shirt exchange dare with just a little line about her bare back pressing against the window to set the mercury roaring with the passion between the younger versions of these protagonists? It has to be the single most sensual description of physical attraction between two people I have read about in a LONG LONG time.

Take a bow my friend - you have such wonderful characters, such palpable emotion - grief, helplessness, curiosity, love, belonging, yearning, passion,...I can today tell you that the memory of this story will stay with me for a long, long time! (and this is just the paranoid me worrying about using the word forever - ask Khushi - she will know what I mean :))

That is very insensitive about our culture.. If man in widower, then everyone wants him to remarry to look after the "children" ..what an excuse..but same doesn't apply to women..
couple of my observations..
A widower priest can not do pooja in temples. This is a strict no no..
One of my mom's cousin's wife became widow within 6 months of her marriage..they got her married to her brother in law..she is a very nice lady and now her kids are married..this happened some 40+ years back , that too in Mangalore and not in any metro..

Beautiful chapter once again...I loved the friendship between Lavanya and Khushi...you need one friend like her in your life...same goes with Maya and Arnav. She missed the sound of car while she was talking to Lavanya...hope Arnav heard at least half of their conversation.
Missed Mohan.

The emotions you bring out in these characters...The characters comes to life. You feel what they feel.

I love the friendship that Arnav and Maya has developed for Mohan. Loved Maya for returning the favor. You won't know unless you try. Loved how maya said your Khushi Gupta.

I love La for encouraging khushi to take the second chance. Loved how La said your ASR.

Khushi let him go the first time. She waited for him even though she let him go.

Everything happens for a reason. They were not ready the first time. They were meant to have this second chance.

I'm not very good with expressing my thoughts in writing here are some quotes to share my thoughts.

"I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life." I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. "I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow."
-Maya Angelou
"Love is also not mutually exclusive one of the other. Loving again does not mean that the love for a late beloved somehow goes away. It doesn't. Furthermore, loving again does not dishonor or disrespect the person who is no longer here, nor does it disrespect thememoryof that person. This is a concept that can create a fair amount of discord (especially within families) when a widowed finds companionship or love once again." Unknown

Ps. Thank you for the early and long update but still left with wanting more

Well said
Brilliant update
Loving Arnav-maya & khushi-lavnya friendship
