Chapter 1:

Ron Weasley had always known that Hermione Granger was out of his league. From the very first day they were sorted into Gryffindor together, he had watched her confidently raise her hand in every class, always ready with the right answer. She was ambitious, determined, and fiercely intelligent. Meanwhile, Ron was... well, Ron—a backbencher who barely scraped by in most subjects, with his greatest strengths lying in chess and his loyalty to his friends.

But despite their differences, they were the best of friends. Their friendship had begun in their first year at Hogwarts. Ron had never expected to befriend someone like Hermione Granger. She was everything he wasn’t—brilliant, ambitious, and always prepared. From the moment she introduced herself on the Hogwarts Express, rattling off spells she’d already mastered, Ron had labeled her an insufferable know-it-all. But that changed on the night of the troll incident.

Hermione had taken the blame for the trio’s misadventure, covering for Ron and Harry despite how rude Ron had been to her earlier. That act of loyalty forged an unbreakable bond among them. From then on, they were inseparable. They spent countless hours together—studying in the library (or, in Ron’s case, pretending to study), sneaking around the castle under the Invisibility Cloak, and laughing at Fred and George’s latest pranks. Despite their constant bickering, Ron found himself looking forward to every debate with Hermione. She challenged him, pushed him to think differently, and never let him get away with half-baked answers. Yet she was also the first to defend him—whether it was against those who mocked his family’s poverty or when Snape unfairly belittled him in class.

During their second year, when Hermione was petrified by the Basilisk, Ron’s world felt strangely empty. He missed her nagging, her endless stream of facts, and even the way she rolled her eyes at his jokes. When she finally woke up, her hug was so fierce that it left him blushing for days.

As the years passed, their friendship deepened. They spent hours in the Gryffindor common room—Ron copying Hermione’s homework while she lectured him about procrastination. She always had his back during Quidditch matches, cheering the loudest whenever he made a save. And even though she constantly complained about his terrible eating habits, she never hesitated to share her Chocolate Frogs with him. With each passing year, their friendship grew stronger, filled with laughter, endless bickering, and shared adventures that brought them closer than ever before.

Yet Ron’s feelings for Hermione were more than just friendship. He had known it for a while now—ever since she had hugged him so tightly after he was nearly knocked out during a Quidditch match. His feelings had begun to change somewhere between their third and fourth years. It wasn’t an instant realization but rather a series of little moments that gradually added up.

There was the time during Buckbeak’s trial when Hermione had broken down in tears, and without thinking, Ron had put his arm around her, holding her as she sobbed. He remembered how his heart had raced when she looked up at him, her eyes red but filled with gratitude.

Then there was the day in Hogsmeade when she had smiled at him over butterbeer, her eyes sparkling with laughter. It had been just an ordinary smile, but Ron had felt his stomach flip. He found himself replaying that moment over and over in his mind.

He also began to notice how his mood lightened whenever she was around. Even her lectures about his laziness or poor grades didn’t annoy him as much as they used to. He secretly admired her passion, her drive to learn, and the way she fiercely fought for what was right—like with S.P.E.W.

But he kept those feelings buried, convinced that Hermione could never see him as anything more than a friend.

Chapter 2

The real turning point in Ron's feelings came during their fourth year when he saw Hermione in that periwinkle-blue dress at the Triwizard Tournament's Yule Ball. He had always known Hermione was pretty—of course, he did. But that night, she looked... breathtaking.

However, everything came crashing down when he heard that Hermione had chosen Viktor Krum as her dance partner—the famous Seeker of the Bulgarian Quidditch team. Watching Hermione walk down the stairs in her periwinkle-blue dress, her hair sleek and elegantly curled, her cheeks flushed with excitement as she laughed—truly laughed—at something Viktor Krum said, made Ron’s heart sink.

He had never felt jealousy like that before. Watching her dance with Krum, her eyes sparkling with admiration, was pure torture. He wanted to be the one making her laugh, the one she looked at with that gleam in her eyes. But how could he compete with Viktor Krum—an international Quidditch star, someone famous, talented, and far more interesting than him? What chance did a poor, freckle-faced, lanky Weasley have?

Ron forced himself to look away, jealousy and hopelessness twisting in his chest. He danced awkwardly with Padma Patil but couldn’t focus. His eyes kept drifting back to Hermione and Krum. He tried to act indifferent, but Harry saw through his façade.

“Why didn’t you just ask her?” Harry asked quietly that night.

Ron looked away, his face burning with shame. “Because she’d never say yes,” he muttered. “Not to me.”

After the ball, he became distant toward Hermione, snapping at her for no reason, trying to hide his jealousy and confusion. When she confronted him about his attitude, he lashed out, hurting her feelings. He hated himself for it, but he didn’t know how to handle his emotions.

That night, as the festive lights dimmed and laughter echoed through the halls, Ron came to a painful conclusion—he could never have Hermione. Not when she could have someone like Krum. He was nothing compared to him. It was better to move on.

In the weeks that followed, he tried. He laughed extra hard at Fred and George’s jokes, focused on Quidditch, and pretended not to notice how distant Hermione had become. But the ache in his chest wouldn’t go away.

That’s when Lavender Brown entered his life. She was fun, cheerful, and, most importantly, she didn’t make him feel inadequate. When she confessed her crush on him, Ron saw an opportunity to forget about Hermione. He agreed to go out with Lavender, hoping it would help him move on. They became the most talked-about couple in Gryffindor, much to Harry’s discomfort and Hermione’s increasing silence. She stopped talking to Ron unless absolutely necessary and buried herself in books more than ever.

But no matter how hard Ron tried, his thoughts always drifted back to Hermione—how she scrunched her nose when concentrating, how fiercely she argued about house-elf rights, and how beautiful she looked when she laughed.

Even when Lavender was holding his hand or cuddling up to him in the common room, Ron found himself glancing at Hermione, hoping she’d look his way. But she never did.

He told himself it was better this way. It was easier to pretend he was happy with Lavender than to face the truth.

Yet deep down, he knew.

It had always been Hermione.

Valentine's Day arrived, and Hogwarts was decked out in pink and red decorations, courtesy of Professor Lockhart’s old charms that still lingered in the castle. Lavender had been planning something grand for weeks, and Ron felt a growing sense of dread.

That evening, Lavender led Ron to the courtyard, where she had set up a romantic scene—enchanted floating candles, pink petals scattered across the stone floor, and a cozy bench just for them. Ron tried to smile, but his heart wasn’t in it. He was still thinking about Hermione—about how she had barely looked at him for weeks now.

Lavender leaned closer, her eyes sparkling. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Won-Won,” she cooed, using the nickname that made Ron cringe every time. She tilted her head, clearly expecting a kiss.

Before Ron could react, a voice echoed across the courtyard.

“Ron!”

Chapter 3

Both Lavender and Ron turned to see Hermione standing there, her face flushed and her eyes blazing. Without another word, she marched up to them, grabbed Ron by the collar, and pulled him in.

Ron Weasley’s world stopped the moment Hermione Granger’s lips touched his.

He barely had time to process what was happening. One moment, he was standing awkwardly in the courtyard, Lavender Brown leaning in for what was meant to be a romantic Valentine’s Day kiss. The next, Hermione had stormed in, eyes blazing with determination, and before he could utter a single word, she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him into the most earth-shattering kiss of his life.

It wasn’t gentle or tentative. It was fierce, raw, and full of emotion. Hermione’s lips were warm and urgent against his, her hands gripping his collar like she was terrified he’d vanish if she let go. Her curls tickled his face, and he caught a faint scent of parchment and vanilla.

Ron’s mind went blank. His heart was thundering in his chest, pounding so loudly that he was sure Hermione could hear it. Every nerve in his body was on fire. He could feel her breath mingling with his—fast and uneven, as if she had been holding it in for far too long.

Time seemed to slow. Everything around them faded away—the fluttering pink petals, the enchanted floating candles, and even the horrified gasp from Lavender, who had just witnessed the whole thing. Nothing mattered except Hermione.

Instinct took over. Ron’s arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer as he deepened the kiss. He felt her tremble slightly before melting into his embrace, her fingers tangling in his ginger hair. It was electrifying, intense, and unlike anything he had ever imagined.

This was Hermione—his best friend, his constant rival, his fiercest critic, and his unwavering supporter. The girl who infuriated him with her relentless lectures, who challenged him to be better, and who had stood by his side through every adventure and danger. He had loved her for so long, even before he knew what love truly meant.

And now she was kissing him—passionately, desperately, like she had been waiting for this moment as long as he had.

His heart soared, an overwhelming sense of relief flooding through him. All the jealousy, the insecurity, the fear of not being good enough—everything vanished as Hermione’s lips moved against his, her hands clutching him like he was the only thing keeping her grounded.

Ron poured everything he had into that kiss—all the longing, all the unspoken words, and all the love he had been hiding for years. He could feel Hermione responding just as fiercely, her emotions mirroring his own.

When they finally broke apart, they were both breathless, their faces flushed. Hermione’s eyes were wide, shimmering with tears she was trying to hold back. Her lips were slightly swollen, her cheeks rosy, and her hair was a wild mess. She looked more beautiful than ever.

“I love you, Ronald Weasley,” she whispered, her voice trembling but steady. “I’ve loved you for ages. And I won’t stand by and watch you waste your time on someone who doesn’t even know the real you.”

Lavender’s jaw dropped, her eyes filling with tears. “What... How could you—”

Hermione didn’t even look at her. Her eyes were locked on Ron, daring him to say something, anything. Ron’s mind was spinning. Had Hermione just... kissed him? Had she really said she loved him? He was left speechless, his thoughts struggling to catch up with his heart.

Hermione loved him.

Hermione Granger loved him.

The brilliant, stubborn, extraordinary witch he had thought was far out of his reach loved him back.

A slow grin spread across his face. “You... you love me?” he stammered, his voice cracking embarrassingly.

Hermione rolled her eyes, but her smile was soft, her fingers still tangled in his hair. “Yes, you prat. I love you.” Her voice dropped to a whisper, vulnerable and honest. “I always have. I just... I didn’t think you’d ever see me that way.” She hesitated. “Not when you had Lavender.”

Ron felt his heart explode with joy, and he finally found his voice. “Hermione... I... I never wanted Lavender. I mean, she’s nice and all, but... it was always you. It’s always been you.”

A hopeful smile spread across Hermione’s face, her eyes shining with unshed tears.

Ron didn’t think twice. He didn’t care who was watching, didn’t care that students were peeking around corners to see the commotion. All that mattered was Hermione. He closed the distance between them and kissed her again, this time with all the emotion he had been bottling up for years. Her arms tightened around his neck, and he felt her smile against his lips.

Everything felt right. Everything felt perfect.

Behind them, Lavender let out an indignant huff and stormed off, her footsteps echoing angrily in the corridor. But neither Ron nor Hermione noticed.

They were too lost in each other, finally realizing that they had been meant for each other all along.

You never know. Who knows if she might also be thinking that he only sees her as a friend too.

Hermione seems to be suffering from a broken heart. What Ros does not see is that she is distancing herself from the pain.

That's our girl. She did not wait around for him to come to his senses. She took charge.
