Jee Le Zaraa Is Happening
Part 12
Anjali looked at Arnav as she sat on the recliner. He was sitting on the bed, beside a sleeping Khushi with his laptop on his lap and peeking at Khushi every now and then. She had made the lunch and was here to call them but the loving and caring husband her selfish and arrogant brother has become, he was not allowing her to wake up Khushi.
"Chhote, what is your problem? It's good to take rest but itna bhi nahi. If she will always sleep then it's not good for her and also for the baby. Wake her up.. "
Arnav lifted his head from the laptop to look at his Di.
"Di, it's because of the medicine. We should not disturb her."
"Arnav, it's lunch time. She and the baby must be hungry. You are not doing any good by not waking her up." Anjali tried to put some sense in his head.
"Di, you go. I will come when she wakes up." Arnav again dipped his head, concentrating on his laptop screen.
"But Chhote, she needs..."
"Di, please. You go, I will bring her when she gets up"
Anjali gave up and stood up from the recliner.
"As you wish! I don't know what is wrong with you. You are behaving like a parent who defend their kids even when they know their child is wrong. She is pregnant and she should have her meals at time but no, you are more concerned about her slumber."
"Di please. What is wrong with YOU? I said I will get her soon, then why are you making such a big deal?" Arnav asked, irritated by his sister.
Anjali glared at him for few seconds before leaving the room. She did not like this behavior of her brother.
Arnav shook his head and again took the laptop.
Khushi stirred in her sleep and her hand went to rest on her stomach as a pain shot from her abdomen. A small moan left her mouth and face cringed in pain.
Arnav was beside her in no time, concern and worry marking his face.
"Khushi? Are you ok?" His voice laced with worry, asked her.
"Khushi...?" he patted her cheek. "Should I call the Doctor? Khushi, open your eyes..." he patted her cheek.
"I... I ..." Her hands clutched her stomach. "Amma ... I... Ru...Ru..dra.."
Arnav's eyes jerked up to look at her face, and his hand stilled.
"Baby... It's paining, Rudra..." a tear slipped out from her closed eyes.
Swallowing the pain that was ready to shred his heart in million pieces, he touched her stomach.
"Khushi, get up. I will call the Doctor. Is it paining?" he asked as he caressed her stomach.
Khushi heard some voice, but her eyelids felt too heavy to open. A warm hand was caressing her stomach and she felt herself relax.
"Khushi? Is it paining? Should I call the Doctor?" Arnav again looked at Khushi.
Khushi opened her eyes slightly to collide with the concerned caramel one. Her big misted eyes stared at him, confused for a minute before everything dawned on her.
"Khushi, are you alright?" Arnav lifted his hand to rest on her cheek but Khushi moved back, making his hand halt in the air.
"Are you fine Khushi?" Arnav asked.
Khushi dragged herself in a sitting position.
"Khushi are you fine?" Arnav asked again.
But she chose not to reply.
Arnav grit his teeth.
"Khushi, I asked, are you fine?" He stared at her , his jaw tight .
"I ASKED ARE YOU FINE KHUSHI?!" Arnav bellowed, making Khushi jump in fright.
Her scared eyes jerked up to meet his angry one.
"I am trying ..." Arnav breathed hard to control his anger. "I trying to be calm... I am trying my best... but you ... you are HELL BENT ON TESTING MY PATIENCE!" He got up from the bed and without looking at her, exited the room.
Khushi clenched the bedsheet between her fingers, trying to shove back the demons that are always ready to control her.
Anjali saw her brother exiting his room, his fist clenched at his side. She looked at the tray held in her hand. What is wrong with Khushi? She looked inside to see her sitting on the bed, least affected by Arnav's exit. She entered the room and kept the tray in front of Khushi and without uttering a word, she exited the room.
She was unable to find her brother's fault.
Arnav drove his car, not knowing where he wants to go. He is trying. How hard he is trying! Does she even know how hard it is for him to see her pregnant with someone else's child? Does she bloody know that! His hold on the steering wheel tightened. He is trying to make everything work. But she is adamant on making everything difficult. She was calling ... Rudra? His ragging eyes filled with angry lava. Rudra! Rudra! Rudra!
His car came to a screeching halt. He punched his fist on the wheel. That man is not leaving them even now.
Coming out of the car, he slammed the car door shut.
"I hate you! Are you listening?! I hate you! I. HATE. YOU!" He screamed at the heavens, hoping that it could travel to the man it was directed to.
"You are not here..." he punched his fist on the car. An oppressive rage was threatening to burn him. "You are not here, still you are there. YOU ARE STILL THERE! Why?! WHY DAMMIT!" He closed his eyes, wanting to shut her voice, which was calling that man. "WHY?! I have asked for her, whole of her! Not like this! But when have you EVER listened to me. WHEN?!" He slummed against the car. The pain in his chest was unbearable, almost threatening him to kill. He closed his eyes as he rested his head against the car. He don't know what is he supposed to do with his life?
Anjali looked at the door for the millionth time and her hasty fingers again punched the number on her cell. It's past mid night and Arnav has still not returned home. She looked up at the close door of Arnav's room and felt her anger rising which she was trying to control from afternoon. She is unable to comprehend what problem Khushi has. Arnav loves her, cares for her. Even when he says he doesn't loves her baby, still he cares for the baby. What more she wants? She has caged herself in the room and hadn't come out even once. She had given her the dinner and Khushi ate quietly, without inquiring about Arnav. If she doesn't loves and cares for her brother then why did she marry him?
Anjali stood up from the couch, pacing the living area. This is not acceptable! Her brother was not at fault. He was just concerned for her, was just asking about her health. Why is she behaving this way?
The phone in her hand almost dropped as she heard the door bell ring. She immediately strode towards the door.
"Arnav? What happened?" her worried eyes looked at the small bandage on his head.
"Nothing, Di. It was just a small accident, nothing serious. I am fine" Arnav entered inside, not noticing the red face of his sister.
"Just a accident? And where were you? Why you were not picking the call?" Anjali hissed.
"Relax , Di. I am fine. Don't ask too many questions." Arnav sat on the couch, clutching his hurting head between his hands.
"Relax? What is wrong with you? What was ..."
"Di, please... Khushi had her dinner?" Arnav asked, still not lifting his head to look at his sister.
Anjali grit her teeth.
"Why will she not? It's not like she cares if you are at home or met with some "small" accident. She had her dinner and is now having a peaceful sleep in her room without caring about anything."
Arnav lifted his head to look at his Di, not liking her sarcastic tone.
"Di, you know NOTHING about her. Don't be so subjective."
"I am being subjective? You think I am blind? You left the house because of her silence and she is least affected by that. You are coming now and she? Not for once she came out of her room to ask about you. Who does that? If she doesn't loves you, then why did she married you?" Anjali asked, looking down at him.
Arnav caught his head between his palm, not replying to her. He has answers to all her question but was not in the condition to answer her. So he avoided her.
Not getting any counter reply from her for few minutes, he lifted his head to look at her, who was nowhere to be seen.
He got up from the couch.
"Di!" he looked around. He lifted his head to look upstairs. "Di!!" He clutched his head as a pain shot from his head, making him stagger back. He again looked up to see his Di entering his room.
"Di! Do not say anything to her!" He ran upstairs.
Anjali opened the door and entered the room to see Khushi sitting on the bed.
Khushi lifted her head to look at Arnav ji's sister.
"May I know what is your problem? Arnav loves you, cares for you and what are you doing? I know my brother is not perfect, has many flaws, but I can see how much he loves and cares for you. Which wife is not worried about her husband's whereabouts? But look at you, you are least bothered. It's more than 12 hours and not for once you came out or bothered to know where he is. What is your problem? You don't love him? Then why did you marry him?"
"DI! Stop it!" Arnav barged in the room and caught her arms.
Khushi's blank eyes just stared at Anjali. Her fingers tightened around the bed sheet.
"Why should I stop? What is the problem with her? If she doesn't love you or care for you, then why did she agreed to marry you? I just can't understand her cold behavior..." Anjali stared at Khushi in disbelief.
Khushi averted her eyes from Anjali's accusing one's. Those eyes were ... were accusing. She felt her hands and legs go cold. She fought! She don't want to succumb to the demon who always threaten to over power her, leaving her with no control on her body and mind.
"Di! For God sake stop it! " He looked at Khushi. He saw her hands clutching the blanket. His eyes moved to her feet. "Shit!" Leaving Anjali's arms, he ran towards Khushi.
"Khushi...relax... Don't listen to her..." he took her hands and entwined it with his, not allowing her to fist her palm. He saw her eyes dropping, the tears spilling out. His eyes moved to her feet. She was curling her toes and fingers.
"Di, please rub her feet. Don't allow her to curl it. She is panicking..." Arnav took her both hands in his left hand and laid her on the bed.
Anjali looked at them, worry and confusion graced her face.
"Di, please..."
Anjali nodded her head and sat on the bed.
"Khushi... Khushi open your eyes ... you did nothing ... I am sorry ... It was because of me ... Calm down ... Di doesn't know anything... don't think about her words... Open your eyes..." Arnav wiped the tears that were slipping out of her closed eyelids, her breathing uneven. "Khushi... Listen to me ...you did nothing ...just relax ...open your eyes..." he rubbed her hands, which was so tight. She was desperately trying to fist her palms. He left her hands and took her in his arm. "Shh... It's ok... It's ok ... it's not good for your baby, Khushi... Relax ..."
"Arnav, what is wrong with her? Why is she reacting this way?" Anjali rubbed Khushi's feet, which were cold as ice.
"Di, you go... I will answer your all questions but not now. I will answer your all questions tomorrow. " he closed his eyes. He should have told her the whole truth. But now he will.
Anjali nodded her head. She has no idea what's happening. It's better if she leaves.
"Khushi... are you listening to me? Relax, Sonu ... it's not good for your baby ... relax .." he embraced her in his arms. He felt her clutching his shirt in a tight grip and heard her uneven breathing. "relax...relax ... think about your baby ... relax ... " He caressed her hair and felt her harsh breathing against his neck. "Shh... open your eyes ...don't worry about anything ... It was my fault .. Di don't know anything about you ... she was just worried about me ... she isn't blaming you for anything ... relax. Relax, Sonu ..." He felt her hold on his shirt loosen. He kissed her hair. "Relax .. it's ok ... " he again laid her on the bed. Taking her hand in his, he stroked her palms. "Relax ... it's not good for the baby ... relax ..."
"Baby ..."
Arnav leaned over her and touched her cheek.
"Yes... baby .. it's not good for him ... so just relax ... take a deep breath ... relax ... " he wiped the perspiration glistening on her forehead. "Calm down.." he whispered as he caressed her hair.
Khushi opened her heavy eyelids to look at him. Her wet eyelids blinked few times before resting on the bandage on his forehead. She lifted her hand and touched the bandage.
"I have not done that ... I ... I have not ..."
Arnav took her hand in his.
"I know... You have done nothing ... It was my mistake. I didn't notice the red signal and suddenly a little boy came in front of my car and then this ... You have done nothing ... I know... " He placed her hand beside her head. "Sleep ... You need rest ... don't think about anything ... sleep.." He brought the blanket till her chin. "Sleep..." He patted her head and saw her eyes drop close. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
He needs to tell everything to his Di. What happened should have not happened. He looked down at Khushi. Tucking her properly inside the blanket, he kissed her forehead.
"Sorry..." He whispered softly.
