January got underway with a lot of work for both the students and the teachers. Other than academic work, the members of the Army were working to gather information about Malfoy and Riddle. Porch had already left to visit the mountains to see his uncle Grawp. They would be the delegation to the giants representing Harry. His absence had needed a substitute for Care of Magical Creatures. Tom had volunteered to take it. He knew Harry wouldn't be able to find a substitute at such short notice. He had assisted Porch before with his librarian duties. He knew he could hold the subject well until after Porch returned. Meanwhile, Harry had decided to maintain patrol even inside Hogwarts. Only the members of the Army within Hogwarts knew about the patrol but Tom had taken Harry's permission to take Estella on patrol. They would spend the free hours of the waning night talking. Tom had started feeling that he would never get tired of listening to her.

Each night any four of the teachers patrolled the corridors and students out of bed were strictly told not to break rules. This extra security had brought about the season of detentions. James and Peter were caught out of bed more times than they were throughout the year. The detentions took more out of teachers than from students. After school hours, on Saturdays the poor teachers had to sit over students as they scribbled down line upon line. Though, students would be pretty much relaxed if they were in a detention with Tom. He would not strain them much, let them go early and even left them only with a warning. Harry would disagree with that a couple of times but after all they were students not criminals, with so much work load already it must be a torture for them doing detentions.

After putting Dory Rephered through an intimidating detention Tom made to the Headmaster's office for a meeting with a goblin Slipdisk. He had agreed to visit Harry on special request from Bill Weasley. The detention wasn't at all intimidating for Dory, as a matter of fact, it was intimidating for Tom. Dory had been nothing short of hostile since she had seen Tom and Estella hanging with each other more than often. She had stopped responding in Tom's classes, and her academic progress had fallen significantly. Tom had tried to bring her back to the pace she had been at before but his efforts had been to no avail. Dory had shown the same reluctance to Estella who had no idea why she had been so withdrawn to her. Tom simply waited now for the end of term so Dory wouldn't have to live through whatever she had been feeling, anymore.

This detention was scheduled by Padma so Tom hadn't refused. He had spent most of the three hours of the detention looking out of the window to avoid an eye contact with her. Throughout the detention she kept trying to draw his attention. She was trying to talk to him but he knew better. He only answered her but didn't ask or add anything to the conversation so she could at least try and get over him.

Finally, the detention came to an end. Tom had only just stood up, shuffling chairs back into place and turned around to leave when he found Dory standing right behind him. Now she stood right up close to him so much so that he backtracked a bit. He had known this girl to honor the rules of distances. He couldn't understand how she would have forgotten them.

"Yes?" He asked raising his eyebrows.

"Nothing." She flushed a dark shade of pink, turned around and left hurriedly.

Tom though felt uneasy knew he couldn't do anything about it. The only option he had open completely was to ignore her and he did that well enough.

He reached the Headmaster's office late for the meeting with Slipdisk to find the goblin standing in front of the large stone gargoyle quite annoyed. Apparently, he didn't know the password. After all, Tom should have been here earlier. Harry had set him up to stay beside the gargoyle to welcome the goblin, in order to show courtesy, though Tom had got held up in the detention.

"Hello, I am Tom Riddle, Deputy Head of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Welcome!"

Before saying anything the goblin observed his attire with a big frown on his face, then without a warning, burst out. "Welcome, my shins! Been waitin' 'ere for whole 10 minutes!"

Tom who was a bit taken aback by such rude behaviour. He overcame his expression hurriedly and smiled in the frowned face of the goblin.

"I am very sorry for the delay. Let's proceed to the meeting. 'Chudley Cannons'." The gargoyle started moving upwards in spirals and Tom and Slipdisk jumped onto the lower step. In the process Slipdisk wavered a bit and Tom extended his arm to help seeing to his utter bewilderment that Slipdisk moved away.

"Thanks but I don't need any help."

They reached the office door. Tom stood a bit back waiting for Slipdisk to knock as he thought Slipdisk liked doing things for himself. They stood there for a whole minute before Tom realized that Slipdisk couldn't obviously reach the door knocker and stepped forwards to knock on the door. As he did so he saw Slipdisk throw him an extremely loathing look.

"Enter."

Both Tom and Slipdisk entered Harry's office. Slipdisk sat on the chair in front of Harry. Tom and Ginny, who was in the room before their arrival stood behind Slipdisk.

"I see you have a competent staff, Harry Potter." Slipdisk pointed sarcastically at Tom.

Harry obviously understood what was going on. "Well I'm really sorry for the inconvenience you faced because of the delay..."

Harry hadn't even finished his sentence when Slipdisk held up his hand to silent him. "What did I owe you a visit for?"

"I have to give you a bad news."

"What news?"

"There's an entity who calls himself Voldemort and he's gathering followers----"

This time Slipdisk actually interrupted Harry. "You know very well Harry Potter that we are neither theirs nor yours. It's only because of my uncle that I came here to pay you a visit or else you know the bad that wizards have done to magical creatures especially to goblins."

"I know that is why I have called you here. If you are neutral than remain to be so, but if you decide to take sides," Harry bore his eyes into the goblin's, "you know where to go, don't you?"

"Of course." Slipdisk nodded and seeing Harry's relaxed expressions hopped off the chair he was sitting onto. He reached the office door and again stood there for a whole minute before Harry realized that Slipdisk couldn't reach the door knob and signaled Ginny silently to help him. She hurriedly proceeded to the door and opened it for Slipdisk who walked out swearing under his breath.

The moment the door closed behind the goblin both Harry and Ginny stared at Tom who didn't apparently know what was going on.

"What?!"

Both of them burst out laughing.

Well I'm Glad That Tom Thought Of Harry & Gin. Certainly Harry Had Made A Mistake, But I Know He'll Make He's Point Clear To Tom When They Next Meet.

And The Way Estella Fitted Herself Among All The Loved Ones Of Tom, You Expressed it Brilliantly. And Also Tom's Feelings For Estella. Amazing!
