Chapter: 2 The Fairytale Princess
Some people find studies hard, some people find sports tedious. Some people hate cooking while some find sewing & knitting to be quite boring. Some people look down on others if they are not fashionable enough to be seen with them, while some people don't like to interact with others if they are not of the same status. Monia Sharma was neither of these people. She was kind, intelligent, studious, tenacious, athletically competent, extroverted, funny, a reasonable fashionista, and one hell of a cook without a hint of arrogance in her personality. She was one of a kind. She had the presence that uncles and aunties (her neighbors) would fall in love with her and want her as their daughter in law, her teachers adored her and her peers supported her. She commanded attention of others without even trying to seek it. If fairytales existed in real life Monia would be the princess ruling everyone's hearts.
She however, had one GREAT weakness. She was a heavy sleeper and no matter what you did, once the great Monia Sharma was asleep you could not wake her up no matter how much you tried. Her father Murari Lal Sharma had put 3 alarm clocks next to her bed and all of them rang simultaneously in the morning only then Ms. Monia Sharma woke up from her blissful sleep otherwise nothing short of dumping a full bucket of water over Monia's head would wake her up.
Today, Monia awoke just as the clocks chimed 6:00 AM without any delay. She got up, showered, made breakfast, packed her baba's (dad) lunch, set the table and then called her father for breakfast. She was a major foodie but did not have a picky personality. She would thank GOD for whatever she got and ate it graciously but made sure her dad had a proper meal. Murari Lal was diabetic and Monia tried her best to make her father feel comfortable and well fed.
Monia: "Mujhe aaj raat ghar aanay main dair hojaaye gi baba, aap please waqt par khana kha lijiye ga. Bachon kay exams honay walay hain aur unhain extra classes deni hongi" (Monia had been working part time at one of Mumbai's best tutoring centers where she gave classes to students from 9th to 12th grade and she called her students her bachay'). She even substituted over other teacher's classes if needed as she excelled in almost all the subjects.
Monia went to college, then to her part time job and was about to return home when she received a call from her friend Soni who told that Chikki had started working as a bar singer + waitress at Fiesty Fireworks' popularly known as The FF Club. The audience included drug dealers, gangsters, respected businessmen and politicians with shady backgrounds. Mainly anyone with tons of money to spend spent time there. Today there would be a private party of a politician cum businessman's son Karan Rajyavardhan Singh and Chikki would help out in the kitchen. Rumors were that the women employed in that nightclub could make an extra buck if they provided physical services' to the wealthy for money which were more than their job description. Monia knew that she had to go there and talk Chikki out of this job before she got herself in some kind of a mess.
Monia reached outside the bar opened her back pack took out her scarf, wearing it over her head and tucking the edges in making sure her facial features were hidden well in the garment. Only her eyes were the ones that were visible. She knew she just had to get inside, as soon as she was inside she would be fine. She crept inside but one of the bouncers caught her and started his questioning.
Bouncer: "Aye larki, tu kaun hai aur isey chup chupa kay yahan kyun aayi hai?"
Monia replied in a mixture of hindi and punjabi: "Arre babu ji, aaj woh Singh sahab ki party hai na toh usi party day waajtay ithay aayi si. Dance karne dey vaaste aayi si. Mundayaan daa kukkad pakanay shudh desi ishtyle vich." and winked at the bouncer. The bouncer hearing her flirtatious lines assumed she was one of the items girl lined up for the program and allowed her in.
Bouncer shouting back at her: "Waisay tumhara naam kya hai?"
Monia: ".. amm...Bijli Kumari" this was what her friends used to call her because of her sparkly personality and feisty tongue.

"Wow, ab Yuvraaj Udayveer Singh ko kisi 3rd class politician kay 3rd division main pass huay, teen teen bodyguard rakh kar showoff karnay walay wannabe champu' ki 3rd grade party main jana paray ga" Uday scoffed over the phone. After a bit of persuasion that the 'champu' was a regular client of SkyHeights Hotel (one of the subsidiary chains of Udayveer's Hotels) he had to agree to go to the 3rd class party.
He along with his friends and Jai Nandini (daughter of Brijraj Singh's daughter) went to KRS's party. They got drinks from the bartender and just then Monia bumped into Jainandini from the back. (Jai was sticking her long legs out for people to admire them which Monia didn't see.)
JN: "OHH EMM GEE!! Looking at Monia up and down who was wearing a veil. Aankhen hain ya button. Pata nahin itni posh jagah main kahan kahan say chalay aatay hain andhay bhikari'"
JN: "Uff you bloody b**ch, na kapray pehanay ka dhang hai, na baat karnay ka. 6 months pehlay ka fashion peahen kar ghoomti ho.. uff you are hurting my eyes. Sara mood spoil kar diya behen ji nay." She then refers to Uday and her friends and starts speaking in fluent english thinking that simple looking girl like Monia won't understand fluent english, "These poverty ridden panache lacking imbeciles, don't know who lets them in these kind of sophisticated parties. She is so downmarket I am sure she can't even understand what I'm saying you, ain't that right you bloody b**ch?"
Monia in fluent english flexing her wrists: "Actually you're the one who lacks panache. You just met me and started calling me names like 'andhe bhikari' when you're the one who is blind. Instead of realizing your own mistake and apologizing to me. The way you are sitting, people could trip over your feet and get injured but obviously that is of no concern to a spoil brat like yourself. Keep your curses to yourself otherwise till now only your eyes were hurting. I'll make sure you jaw will too" Then Monia leans closer to JN's right ear just within Uday's hearing range and whispered so her male friends surrounding her can't hear her :
"Waisay tujhe chotay chotay kapray pehannay ka itna shauk hai toh yeh toh dekh liya kar kay woh kahin say phattay huay toh nahin hai aur yeh kapray itnay chotay hain kay teri na underwear dikh rahi hai? ab jaldi se restroom main jao warna abhi sirf main nay note kiya hai baqi sab bhi karlengay. Now tell me how was this comeback? Meray saath panga lay gi na, toh teray chauda tabak roshan kar doongi. Main achon kay saath bahut achi, aur buray logon kay saath bahut buri tarah paish aati hoon, samjhi phatte kapron wali'" and moved back to give space so Jai could go to the bathroom without her friends knowing.
Uday who was eavesdropping on Monia and JN's conversation burst out in laughter and immediately clasped a hand over his mouth to stifle the noise before JN got furious. Monia looked at him. Jai Nandini gave him a I'll see you later look and hurried off to the bathroom. Monia now moved past and started searching for her friend but unknown to her she had just left an impressive impression on young Yuvraaj Udayveer Singh. No girl had ever dared to say anything to Jai-Nandini, but this girl didn't even give Jai an earful but also bashed her left, right, and center. Wooh, I've got to talk to this girl, Uday thought.
As Monia walked through the crowd and Uday trailed her with his eyes but not getting too close to her so she doesn't get startled realized that she was here looking for someone. Just then Monia heard two men whispering in hushed tones over the phone that in an hour there would be a drug ring operation somewhere in this multi storey bar and the police should send reinforcements. Monia heard this and knew that she had to get her friend and get out of here. If they were caught they would be in a nasty situation, and there parents being so poor won't even be able to pay for their bail.
"Bijli... oh Bijli kumari, meray dil ki sherni" a guy yelled from Monia's right and she recognized the voice to be Karan. Monia smiled at Karan and headed off to greet him.
Karan: "Hi Bijli. Kaisi ho? I'm so happy tum meri party main aayi. Main nay party di ho aur meri best friend hi isi party main na aayi toh kitna bura lagta hai, pata bhi hai."
Monia: "Hello Mr. Gyaani baba. Must say rocking party haan. Yar tumhain toh pata hai main parties main nahi aati. College say job aur job say ghar bas meri life toh aisi hi hai. Waisay you know main apni invitation ghar pay bhool gai and had to sneak in being an item girl. Waisay tum nay mujhe is veil main bhi pehchaan liya?.. kaisay?"
Karan first smiled then in full seriousness: "Tumhari jheel jaisi aankhon ko koi aik baar dekh lay toh phir unhain bhool sakta hai kiya?.. aur tumhari chalnay ki nazuk si ada..."
Monia interrupted him and leaned close to him and whispered in his ear, "Gyaan (another nick name that Monia gave him) police yahan raid karnay wali hai in 1 hour, we should evacuate this place before the raid." and explained him the situation about the drug ring and Chikki working here. Karan listened to her story calmly and told her he would be back in a few minutes and to enjoy the party.
Uday scanned Karan and the girl's mingling, and saw her lean close to Karan and talk to him in such close proximity. He could not hear their conversation but could see their body language. This Bijli Kumari' was comfortable with Karan, and he was with her. He did not know why but he thought this girl was different, she was mature and nice, at least her first impression seemed that way, she did not publicly humiliate Jai Nandini about her clothes but informed about the malfunction privately and still gave her tit for tat, but he was wrong. She was one of those girls who hung around rich guys trying to capture their attention and their wallets. Well if that's the case I would have her with me tonight, Uday thought and smirked thinking he would spend the time with this Ms. parda nasheen bijli whole night tonight.
Uday picked up a rose from a vase and headed to Monia.
Uday: "Excuse me Ms. Bijli Kumari. This is for you" and handed her a rose.
Monia did not accept the rose but smiled and asked pleasantly, "Hi, do I know you?"
Uday: "Is say kiya farak parhta hai kay hum ek dosray ko jaantay hain ya nahin. Main apnay baray main tumhain bata kar time waste karna nahin chahta. Mujhe tum say kuch ghanton ka kaam hai and I'll pay you handsomely for it."
Monia: "Kaam, kaisa kaam? Yahan bar main aapko mujhse kya kaam hosakta hai?"
Uday: "Wohi jo aik larkay ko aik sexy voice rakhnay wali, khoobsurat si aankhon wali larki say hosakta hai. Zara parda hata kay apna chehra toh dikhao so I can make an estimate kay mujhe tumhain kitna paisa dena hai?"
Monia who caught on his words sexy', khoobsurat' and paisa dena hai' started to get a drift of the meaning behind Uday's words. She realized his breath smelled of alcohol and he was one of the friends of Phatte kapray wali that she met earlier who seriously lacked manners.
Monia: "Mr., aap mujhe totally drunk lagtay hain, you are not in your senses so I am letting your indiscretion pass without going to the police. People come into bars to meet new people, and pick up girls. I understand that, but I'm not interested in you and no guy should treat a girl like this. If you want to pick up a girl, first charm her and see if she reciprocates your gestures. Your words are highly inappropriate and disrespectful. Women are not objects of pleasure so please MIND YOUR LANGUAGE." She gave him an earful and started to walk away.
Uday goes after her, "Arey I know bijli ka kaam garajna aur barasna hota hai par itna kyun bharak rahi ho, okay I'll give you whatever amount you desire. Just name it."
Monia was starting to lose her temper by now: "Izzat ki koi qeemat nahin hoti, kaminay, kan-khajooray. Ab chal mujhe pareshan na kar. Tere jaisay bad-tameez larkay ko mu laganay ka na mujhe shauk hai aur na hi waqt"
Uday: "Sirf paisay nahin doonga, I'll give you diamond, rubies, sapphires.. whichever you wish and as much as you like".
Monia's was all out of patience at this time: "Tere jaisay larkon ko mujhe theek karna aata hai, kan-khajooray. Ab chal apna raasta naap aur yahan se cut lay."
While Monia conversed with him, there was a long train of thought going on in Uday's mind. He did not mean to be rude with the girl. He was always used to getting her way and right now he wanted her. He usually charmed women with his attitude, his gifts and generosity, and his stature but this one was different. She was not succumbing to anything that he offered.
That's a nice voice thought Uday, though the words are mighty crude. One moment there is a cute girlish chuckle to her voice and the next moment its like she wants to fight the entire world . Even her kajal laded eyes are not bad. They are big, se*y, and bold. Udayveer thought to himself as the girl's eyes stared back at him with fury, indignation, and not a slight hint of shyness. She showed no hint of fear facing his masculine form. He had a sudden desire to see her face. He wanted to see the rest of her features. Just then it was as if heavens were listening to Uday's wish and the girl's veil draped loosely around her face was tucked down by the wind. As the veil dropped, it was as if Uday saw her facial features in slow motion. Her pretty nose, high cheek bones, full ruby lips, and flawless white skin. Before Uday could take in the beauty of her features, she grabbed her veil, wrapped it around her face and decided to leave since she did not want to escalate the argument and leave the place before the police raided.
Meanwhile Uday felt amused at the girl's outburst and grabbed her by her shoulder and turned her to face him. He was not done talking to this mischievous girl who had dared to be insolent/ daring in front of him. The girl's veil had come off again.
"Jaanti bhi ho hum kaun hain larki?"
"Kan-khajooray ho aur chattay huay badmaash bhi lagtay ho, tabhi toh kab se meray kaan kha rahay ho apni nonstop bak bak say. Ab chor mera haath". Manyata retorted without being a bit intimidated by his manly form, looking straight in his eyes. She hated guys who tried to be fast with girls.
Uday's previous amusement was now turning to amazement as this was the first girl in his life who being in such close proximity to him showed no signs of being impressed by his appearance or charisma. He leaned closer to the girl's face looking directly into her eyes and whispered in his most husky, manly whisper.
"Jab Yuvraaj Udayveer Singh kisi larki ka haath pakarta hai, toh ussay koi nahi churha sakta jab tak kay hum khud aisa na chahen. Aur aaj tak aisi koi larki paida nahin hui jo Yuvraaj Udayveer Singh ki grip... "
Before Uday could complete his sentence, Manyata stomped her right heeled foot on his left foot, whisked her hand away, replied, "Lay ghanchakkar ab paida hogai" and proudly walked off while Uday grabbed his foot wincing in pain.
Monia now began looking for Chikki before any other drunk guys headed her way and tried to create a scene. She had a horrible impression of the guy. He was cheap, disrespectful and had no honor and thought money could buy anything. This wasn't the first time this had happened to her and she hated men who treated women like trash.
