Chapter-12
Sanyukta was sitting in front of the dresser and combing her hair lost in thoughts.
It was almost a week since they had talked about her joining RS. Randhir never talked about that to her after that day. He decided he would give her all the time in this world to think. She smiled looking at her own reflection in the mirror.
"Sanyu, Jaldi bahaar aao. I have a surprise for you." she heard Randhir's voice from the living area. She looked at the watch. It was 11.00 am. He should be in office. What is he doing here at this hour?
She went outside and found him standing there with Parth, Arpita and a small kid.
"Parth..Arpita" Sanyukta voice made both of them turn. Parth came forward and gave Sanyukta a tight hug.
"Kaisi ho Sanyu?" said Parth still hugging her.
"I am good. God! I was missing you guys." said Sanyukta parting from him with tears in her eyes.
"Mera number kab aaega?" Arpita chirped from behind with a pout.
Sanyukta smiled and walked to her and they hugged as if they were some lost sisters. Both of them were crying. Randhir and Parth exchanged the look of Women-will-be-women-look'.
Sanyukta felt someone tugging her saree. She looked down to find a small kid looking at her in bewilderement.
"You must be Nikhil." Sanyukta sat on her knees to come to his level.
"Wow. Aap to sach mein angel jaisi beautiful ho. Mom ne kaha tha ki hum log angel ke paas ja rahe hain New York." said Nikhil still looking at Sanyukta in amazement.
Sanyukta looked at Arpita and smiled.
"Angel ka to pata nahi but mere paas zyada friends nahi hain. Will you be my friend?" said Sanyukta forwarding her hand to Nikhil.
"I am Nikhil Parth Kashyap. But all my friends call me Nicks." he gave a huge grin and held her hand and they shaked hands for like 2 minutes.
"Nicks. Angel ka haath chod do. Warna nikal aaega." said Arpita rescuing Sanyukta's hand from Nikhil's grip.
"The best part is ki ye log humaare neeche waale apartment mein hi hain so tum dono long lost sisters' ko connect karne mein problem nahi hogi." said Randhir putting his arm around Sanyukta's shoulder. To which Sanyukta punched him lightly in his arm.
"I am free today. So lets spent the whole day together like we used to do in college. Plus ab to humaare paas ek additional friend bhi hai. Right Nicks?" said Randhir picking up Nikhil in his arms.
"Right RS!" said Nikhil and they high-fived.
All 5 of them went out. They shopped, had lunch, and went to an amusement park for Nikhil. They returned by 7.00. Everybody settled in the living room. Everyone had their eyes closed due to exhaustion. Randhir's mind blinked with a plan and he stood up in the centre of the living room's table.
"Attention Dream Team. Since aaj Mrs.Kent ka off hai to humein as a team kaam karna hoga for tonight's dinner." said Randhir in Vardhaan's tone.
"To humein kya karna hoga fake Vardhaan sir." asked Parth in a serious tone.
"Hmm.. I have already divided the work. Baby tum..I mean Sanyukta and Parth ki responsibility khaana banane ki hai. Arpita khush hone ki zarurat nahi hai. Tumko same wahin chocolate pudding banana hai jo tumne tab banayi thi when we left for New York." said Randhir adjusting fake spectacles.
"Aur aap kya machchar marenge, Sir?" said Arpita in a sarcastic tone.
"Badtameez ladki. Ye koi tereeka hai Sir se baat karne ka. I will perform the most important task" said Randhir.
All of them stood up and gave him a care-to-explain look.
"I will play with Nicks. And no more questions. Start your work now." he said.
Everyone said in unison "Ok Sir"
Parth was busy in cutting vegetables for salad, Sanyukta was almost done with the food while Arpita was creating the batter for the pudding.
Sanyukta's gaze moved to the living area and she saw Randhir and Nicks playing NFS. A smile crept on her face as she saw him play in a child-like enthusiasm. At that same time, Randhir looked up and winked at her.
"Khaane pe concentrate karein?" said Parth looking back and forth between Sanyukta and Randhir.
Sanyukta blushed and nodded.
"I am so happy that you guys came. Have a lot of catching up with you." said Sanyukta closing the burner of the gas.
"And I am so happy to see you guys like this. Maine to hope hi chod di thi ki Randhir ko is tarah se khush kabhi dekh paunga. But God has his own ways." He said patting Sanyukta's cheek lovingly.
"Pata hai, Renuka Aunty ne kitni koshish ki Randhir shaadi ke liye maan jaaye. But Randhir had this hope ki tum use kisi din mil jaogi." Said Parth
Listening to Renuka's name sent Sanyukta into thoughts again which did not go unnoticed by Parth.
"Sab theek hai na Sanyukta? Subah se dekh raha hun ki jab bhi Renuka aunty ka naam aata hai you try not to participate in the topic." said Path taking out the apron.
Sanyukta smiled and was about to make a fake excuse when Parth gave her a don't-you-dare-lie look. Sanyukta sighed and looked down.
"Nahi batana hai to mat batao Sanyukta. Its ok. But for your kind information, ye cheez Randhir ne bhi notice ki hai. To kabhi na kabhi wo tumse zarur puchega. And you know Randhir, he wont take a no for an answer. Don't hide anything from him Sanyukta. You know he hates lies." said Parth patting her hand and getting up to help Arpita who was decorating the pudding.
They had an enjoyable dinner. After which Randhir and Parth discussed a bit about business and finally they bid good night's to each other and left.
Sanyukta went to the bathroom and changed into her signature nightwear and came out. Randhir was busy on his laptop. As soon as she came out Randhir closed his laptop and held out his hand for Sanyukta to take. She held his hand and he pulled her close to himself so that she was sitting on the other side with her head on his shoulder draped aound her arms.
"Khush ho na?" said Randhir kissing her forehead.
"Hmm..Bahut." said Sanyukta closing her eyes feeling the warmth of his lips. Her exhaustion and his warmth sent her into sleep in minutes.
Randhir gently placed her on the bed and covered her with the comforter. He was gently caressing her hair.
"Main jaanta hun Sanyu that something is bugging you from inside jo tum mujhse chupa rahi ho. But I also know ki agar tum chupa rahi ho then uska koi reason hai. I'll wait for you to open up to me yourself jaan. I love you." He kissed her hair and slept holding her in his arms.
Next morning Sanyukta and Arpita made a combined breakfast. Randhir and Parth left for office together. While Sanyukta went to Arpita's apartment to help her set it up. She came back in the evening and found Randhir chatting with someone. It was Renuka. As Sanyukta came forward, Renuka and Randhir looked up. Renuka gave her best smile and hugged Sanyukta.
"How are you beta?" said Renuka making Sanyukta sit next to her.
"I am fine Mom. Aap kaisi hai? How is work?" asked Sanyukta in fake- courtesy.
"Good Beta. Randhir mujhe abhi bata raha tha ki he wants you to join as the Head of the technical team. And you disagreed." said Renuka. Before Sanyukta could reply anything Renuka again spoke.
"I think you are completely right at your place Sanyukta. This is a big position and you have no experience in it. So you being nervous is completely understandable. Randhir should hire someone who has expertise in it. Don't you think so?"
"But Mom.." said Randhir ready to reason with her.
"Randhir, I think you should think about hiring Natasha for this. She has experience in this too. She will be a good choice." said Renuka to Randhir.
This did it. Sanyukta was in flares but she maintained her calm and got up from her place and sat next to Randhir. She made up her mind. She held Randhir's hand and looked at Renuka.
"Mom. I trust Randhir. Agar use lagta hai ki main is position ke liye perfect hun then I guess I don't need to have second thoughts about this. Rahi meri tabiyat ki baat to Randhir mujhe kabhi bhi stressed hone hi nahi dega." said Sanyukta looking at Randhir. He squeezed her hand in acknowledgement.
"Randhir, my answer is yes. I would love to work in our' company." said Sanyukta placing her hand on his cheek.
Randhir hugged Sanyukta and said a Thank you' in her ear.
"This calls for a celebration. Let me call Parth and Arpita and then we can pop up some champagne." said Randhir getting up to call Parth.
As he left the room, Sanyukta looked at Renuka. Before Renuka could utter a word Sanyukta's glare silenced her.
"Aaj aapne ye koshish kar li Mom'. Dobara karne ke bare mein sochiyega bhi mat. If you ever try to get anyone in between me and Randhir, then kahin aisa na ho ki main aapse kiya hua promise bhool jaoon. I think I have made myself clear Ms.Sanyal?" said Sanyukta in a warning tone. Renuka nodded.
Just then Parth and Arpita entered with Randhir. Randhir popped up the champagne.
At night, Sanyukta was standing on the terrace when Randhir came and held her from behind.
"A penny for your thoughts." He whispered in her ear.
"Main ye soch rahi thi ki Randhir Singh Shekhawat ko shirt pehennna achcha kyun nahi lagta. Apni wife ko seduce karne ki koshish to nahi kar rahe?" said Sanyukta pusing her back more into Randhir's chest.
"Depends. Is it working?" asked Randhir with a smirk.
"A bit maybe." said Sanyukta turning to face him. Her hands encircled his neck and his arms held her by her waist.
"Hmm.. Pehle ye batao ki achanak tumne haan kaise bol diya for joining RS. Was it just jealousy ki kahin main Natasha ko appoint na kar lun us position pe?" said Randhir searching her eyes for answer.
Sanyukta looked down and then again looked up to meet his gaze and said "I won't lie. It played a part. I don't like that girl Randhir. It's not that I am feeling insecure. I completely trust you. But I have seen a lot of people in these years. So don't want anyone to come between us. But maine ye faisla subah hi kar liya tha ki I will join RS. You were right. I need to find myself again. And nothing will be more splendid than finding myself through you." said Sanyukta and hugged him.
They stayed in each other's arms for sometime. Randhir was the first to break apart. He searched for something in his pocket and fished it out. He kept it in Sanyukta's hand.
"Ye to wahin locket hai jo maine tumhe tumhare birthday pe diya tha." said Sanyukta astonished running her fingers on the RS' embossed in the locket.
"Haan. Itne saalon se ye mujhse kabhi alag nahi hua. The day Parth told me that you are alive. I took it out from around my neck and decided that ki ab ye waapas tabhi pehnunga jab tum apne haathon se ise mere gale mein daalogi." said Randhir.
Sanyukta smiled and hugged him and clasped the chain around his neck as she did the day she made him wear it the first time. They broke apart and Randhir leaned in to kiss her when Sanyukta's cell rung. He sighed and took a step back. Sanyukta saw the name beeping on her cell
"Renuka Calling"
She silenced the cell and took a step towards Randhir cupping his face in her hands.
"Won't you pick up the call?" asked Randhir leaning more into her touch.
"It's not important. Nothing is more important than you Randhir. I love you. More than you will ever know."
Randhir smiled and said "Tumhe pata hai ki tumne last time I love you' mujhe Shimla mein bola tha. Uske baad aaj ja kar tum mujhse keh rahi ho. I was dying to hear it from you."
Without a warning Sanyukta kissed him with all the passion and love. With every kiss she murmered an I love you' into his lips. A tear escaped from Randhir's eye and he picked her in his arms. Their lips were still infused when he walked with Sanyukta in his arms to their bedroom.
