Chapter-13
Randhir placed Sanyukta on the bed gently and sat next to her. He was leaning in for another searing kiss when his cell phone buzzed.
"Hell!You got to be kidding me!" Randhir sweared and picked his cell to blast the person on the other side. But the colour on his face changed as soon as he picked it up.
"Are you sure? A woman? Get a sketch of that person. He cant' forget her face if she paid this big an amount to him. Get back to me ASAP." He said in an urgent tone and hung up.
"Kya hua? Is everything ok?" said Sanyukta sitting upright placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Good news Sanyu. I am getting close to that person who was behind your accident. Actually it is not a he' but a she'. It's a woman. She paid the officer in-charge at that time 20 lakhs to forego the investigation on your case. I promise baby, the day I get my hands on her, she is so dead." said Randhir placing his hand on her cheek.
Sanyukta cringed on hearing this which did not go unnoticed by Randhir. He was about to kiss her when Sanyukta said in a tired voice.
"Mujhe neend aa rahi hai. Main so jaoon?"
Randhir looked at Sanyukta for a while and answered smiling "Ya, sure."
As she closed her eyes and tried to sleep, Randhir pulled the comforter on her and caressed her hair lulling her into sleep.
I don't know tum mujhse kya chupa rahi ho Sanyu. But I'll find it out. Randhir switched off the lights and slept.
"So what are your plans for today?" asked Randhir settling himself on the breakfast table opening the newspaper.
"Have to go with Arpita to St.Martin's for Nikhil's admission. Uske baad have an appointment with Dr.Ray at 12." said Sanyukta pouring the mango juice in Randhir's glass.
"Ok. Main directly hospital mein hi milunga at 12." said Randhir setting a reminder on his planner.
"It's just a routine check-up Randhir. Tum kyun bekaar mein aaoge apna kaam chod ke." said Sanyukta sipping her own juice.
"I am not asking you Sanyu. I am telling you that I will meet you there." said Randhir without looking up. Sanyukta gave a he-will-never-change look and continued sipping.
"So when are you planning to join office?" he asked still absorbed in the newspaper.
"You tell." said Sanyukta leaning in the chair.
"I think tomorrow will be good. We have a meeting tomorrow. Will introduce you there only." said Randhir turning the page.
"Hmmm..." sighed Sanyukta.
"Main niklata hun. Will see you in hospital. Mike will be with you for the whole day." said Randhir getting up from his chair and checking his cell phone, still not looking at her.
"Tum kuch bhool nahi rahe Randhir?" asked Sanyukta in an irritated tone.
"Kya?" asked Randhir still not looking at her.
"Mujhe dekhna, you fool!" she said grabbing his collar. Randhir smirked and Sanyukta knew what he was trying to do.
"Hmmm. Someone is vying for my attention. Kal to tumhe bahut neend aa rahi thi. Jabki you were awake till 1.00." said Randhir keeping his hands in his pockets.
"Tumhe kaise pata?" asked Sanyukta lost in his magnetic eyes.
"You are seriously asking this question!" asked Randhir raising his left eyebrow in an irritated manner.
Sanyukta left his collar and straightened it and muttered a Sorry'. Randhir picked his bag and left for office.
With half-heart Sanyukta was clearing the table when she felt a pair of arms engulf her from behind. Sanyukta closed her eyes feeling his warm breath on her neck and his arms around her waist and his name came out in a whisper.
"Randhir"
"Tumse theek se ghussa bhi nahi ho sakta main." said Randhir in her ear.
Sanyukta turned around and peppered his face with kisses.
"And I can't stand your indifference. Mujhe jo saza deni hai de lo Randhir. Sab manzoor hai. But don't ever turn yourself from me. I can't take it." said Sanyukta between kisses.
"Agreed." said Randhir kissing her forehead.
"Ab chalun?" asked Randhir smiling. Sanyukta nodded. Randhir kissed her cheek and left.
"Your reports are very positive Mrs.Shekhawat. I am quiet satisfied with the way the results are turning out. The tumour has started turning dormant again. With this rate we can operate next month only." said Dr.Ray handing the reports to Randhir.
"Thank you so much Doc. It's your expertise that is paying off." said Randhir as they shook hands.
As they came out of the hospital, Sanyukta turned to Randhir and said "Tum ab jao. I will go with Mike."
"Ok. Take care of yourself. See you in the evening." said Randhir hugging Sanyukta and left with Frank.
Mike opened the back door of the car for Sanyukta to sit. Sanyukta smiled at Mike and closed it. She sat in the passenger seat in the front leaving Mike astonished. He settled in the driver's seat and asked her in a formal tone "Where to Mrs.Shekhawat?"
"Let me see. Can you take me to some good shopping place? I need to buy a gift for Randhir." said Sanyukta smiling.
"Sure mam." smiled Mike and started the car. It was impossible to not return her infectious smile.
Sanyukta roamed through a lot of shops but did not find anything appropriate. She finally sat on a chair in a huff. Seeing her dejected face, Mike sat across her and asked "Didn't find anything?"
She looked up and nodded her head in negative and said "He has everything. What can I possibly gift him?"
"Come with me." said Mike getting up from the chair. Sanyukta followed him. He went into a huge jewellery shop. As she entered, she saw Mike talking to the manager.
"Hello Mrs.Shekhawat. It's a pleasure to see you here. Please look around and let us know if you find anything that interests you. Debbie will be there to asssit you." said the manager with his brightest smile.
Sanyukta nodded and started looking around while Debbie followed her at a distance in case she needed assistance.
She kept her hand on a glass counter and was looking on some watches when she heard that sales girl.
"Mam, the ring you are wearing is gifted by Ms.Sanyal..I mean your mother-in-law right?
Sanyukta nodded.
"I remember that because she bought it from here only. But I was a bit disappointed when she took one out of the pair." She said smiling.
"One out of the pair?" asked Sanyukta confused.
"Yes mam. This ring has a history. 5 years back, the diamond that is in your ring was found in the mines sticking to another larger diamond. The workers had to put in a lot of effort to separate them out. It seemed as if the diamonds planned to stay together. The man who designed these rings was a romantic at heart. So he created 2 rings - a ladies and a gents ring. He sold us the design and asked us to make sure that a couple buys it. But then Ms.Sanyal walked in that day and bought this ring without its pair. She is an esteemed customer so we could not possibly turn her down." answered Debbie smiling.
"Can I see the other ring?" asked Sanyukta.
"Yes sure mam." Said Debbie and walked in.
She came out with a black velvet box and placed it on the counter.
Sanyukta opened the box and was amazed to see such a beautiful ring. It was a perfect diamond fitted in a platinum band.
"I will take this." Sanyukta said in a final tone.
"The size mam?" asked Debbie looking at her. Shit! Ab size kahaan se laoon. She looked around and found an Indian guy in a well tailored suit standing at one of the counters. He was of Randhir's height and built only. She walked up to him and said
"Excuse me."
He turned around and mouthed a Yes'.
"Actually, I have to buy a ring for my husband and I don't have his ring size. His height and built is same as yours. Can you please give me your ring size?"
He nodded and took his ring out that he was wearing and handed it to Sanyukta. Sanyukta handed the ring to Debbie. She then returned the ring to him and said smiling.
"Thank you so much for your help." She went to the counter and paid for it. As she was about to leave the sales girl said "Great choice Mrs. Shekhawat. We get to keep our promise."
Sanyukta came out to find Mark talking on the cell phone.
She sat on the chair in the nearest coffee shop and ordered a coffee. She was sipping her coffee occasionally glancing at Mark to see if he was finished with the call or not.
"May I sit here?" asked someone from behind.
Sanyukta turned around and found the same guy she met in the jewellery shop with a coffee in his hand. Sanyukta looked aroud and found all the tables crowded. So she turned and nodded in a yes.
He came around and sat across her. She was getting a feeling that she had seen him somewhere. But was not able to recollect.
"Hi, I am Rajeev. Rajeev Bhatia." he said stretching his hand out for her to take.
Sanyukta smiled and answered placing her hand in his "Sanyukta."
"Sanyukta Randhir Singh Shekhawat. Right?" he said leaning back in his chair looking at Sanyukta with a smirk.
Sanyukta left his hand and nodded in a yes and asked "How do you know?"
"I am a close acquaintance of Randhir. Plus the papers are talking about you from past somedays." said Rajeev sipping his coffee.
"You two work together?" asked Sanyukta inquisitively since she didn't remember Randhir ever talk about him.
"No. But we use to. Randhir is gonna love this ring that you bought for him. It's exquisite and plus he loves platinum." said Rajeev looking at Sanyukta over his cup.
Sanyukta smiled and they continued talking. They talked generally. After sometime, Rajeev got up to leave.
"It was wonderful talking to you Sanyukta. Randhir is one lucky man." He said and kissed her hand and left from there.
Sanyukta did not feel good about him kissing her hand but before she could react, he had already left. Just then Mark came and they left for home.
Arpita and Sanyukta were watching a movie while Nicks was busy in some video game. Sanyukta was waiting for Randhir to come. Just then her cell phone buzzed. She opened to find a message from Randhir.
There is a problem in office. The tender details have leaked somehow and it has gone to my rival company. Parth and I will be late. Love you.
"The guys will be late." said Arpita reading message from Parth.
"Hmmm.." said Sanyukta sadly.
"Arey, dukhi kyun ho rahi hai? Ring kal de dena. Waise bhi Randhir ka mood kharaab hoga regarding all this. Right?" said Arpita trying to cheer her up. Sanyukta smiled and they continued watching the movie.
"This picture must be morphed."
She woke up with Randhir's voice in the living room followed with the loud voice of glass shattering. She immediately got up and went out. The scene in front of him made her shiver.
The glass table was lying in the centre of the living room in pieces. Randhir was standing with his back to her leaning with both his palms on the wall trying to control his rage.
Parth was patting his back and saying "Let her explain. Ok. I am sure she must have a valid answer."
Mike and Frank stood like 2 statutes. Arpita was sitting on the couch looking at the newspaper with a big crease on her forehead. As she entered the room, everybody looked at her except Randhir.
"Randhir, kya hua?" asked Sanyukta.
"Sanyukta, bedroom mein jao. Glass pieces are lying everywhere. And everybody else, please leave. I need to talk to her. Alone." said Randhir still not turning back.
Sanyukta glanced at Parth and Arpita. Both of them nodded at her to go in. She silently moved back to the room. Randhir turned around and found a worried Parth and Arpita staring at him.
"Kha nahi jaunga use. Daro mat. I am ok and she will be ok too." said Randhir picking up the newspaper.
Both of them nodded and left with Mark and Frank.
Sanyukta was sitting on the edge of the bed clutching the bed sheet worried about Randhir. She had not seen him this angry in a long time.
Randhir came in and locked the door. She looked up and saw his bloodshot puffy eyes and disheveled hair. He threw the newspaper next to her and asked in a clipped tone "What is this?"
Sanyukta slowly took the paper in her hand read the headlines.
"Coffee with arch-rival R.S Bhatia. Where is Randhir Shekhawat?" It had the picture of Rajeev kissing her hand. Now she knew why his face seemed familiar. Rajeev Samar Bhatia. Randhir's arch rival. She was suddenly feeling guilty and looked up and found Randhir staring at her. He was trying very hard to maintain his calm with her. She knew he was boiling with rage on the inside.
"Randhir, Wo.." Sanyukta tried to form a coherent sentence but was silenced by him.
"Is this picture genuine Sanyukta?"
"Randhir. Listen to me.." said Sanyukta getting up and walking towards him.
"Answer in Yes' or No'. Is this picture real Sanyukta?" said Randhir stopping her at a distance from him with both his hands on her shoulders.
She looked at the pained expression on Randhir's face and nodded in a Yes. Randhir's clutch tightened on her arms as he dragged her closer to him and said controlling his anger.
"Do you have any idea who he is?"
"I didn't know yesterday, when I met him in the coffee shop. He just sat with me and we talked for a while."
"Then why the hell is he kissing your hand?" he said releasing her with such a suddenness that she literally stumbled back.
"Randhir, please listen to me. Kal wo main.." she was about to speak when he held her and pinned her to the wall.
"No. You listen. You know if there is anyone in this whole world that I hate from the core of my heart, then it is him. That back-stabbing Ba****d. Kal jis tender ki wajah se main itna pareshaan tha wo kiski company ko gaya hai pata hai? Is kameene ki company ko! Someone in my company was supplying information to him. Parth and I sat the whole night trying to get that Son of a B***h to confess. He finally confessed due to which we got another chance to file our tender. After such a tiresome day and night, jab main subah ghar aata hun to apologize to my wife on why I couldn't come last night, this is what welcomes me! How dare he touch you? Leave touching aside. Uski himmat kaise hui tumse baat bhi karne ki? Where was Mike all this time? Answer me Sanyukta Shekhawat." he asked clutching her tighter.
"It was not Mike's fault. He was talking on phone and I went to the coffee shop without telling him, so don't scream on him. It was completely my fault. I had talked to him asking his help on something. I should have figured it out when he introduced himself. But I was familiar with the name R.S Bhatia and not Rajeev Bhatia. He introduced himself as a friend of yours and also knew about your tastes and he talked about how you two started together in business. So I didn't doubt his intentions. Regarding the kiss, it was sudden. He just got up, grabbed my hand, kissed it and made his way out. That's what happened." answered Sanyukta.
"Tumhe help maangne ke liye aur koi nahi mila kya ise chod ke?" screamed Randhir in a shrill tone.
"I did not do anything deliberately Randhir. It was a mistake. Please calm down." She tried to reason with him.
"Calm down! You are asking me to calm down. Sanyukta puri news padho and then ask me to calm down! Pata hai tumhare baare mein kya likha hai! You know what! Leave it! I don't want to listen to a word from you now. The topic is closed." He left Sanyukta and went to the bathroom and closed the door with a loud thud.
Sanyukta sat on the bed and read the whole news. Randhir's anger was justified. It said that maybe Sanyukta was conspiring against Randhir by going behind his back to meet Rajeev. Maybe he is her ex-flame whom she is helping and stuff like that questioning her character.
She wiped her tears and went out. She got ready and came out to the breakfast table to talk to Randhir. But he had already left for office. Mrs.Kent had cleaned the whole house. Arpita entered just then and asked Sanyukta "Are you ok? Did he hurt you? Because if he did, I will kill him."
Sanyukta smiled sadly and said "He will hurt himself but he can never hurt me Arpi. You know that."
"Ya, that's true. All these years and you two are still crazy about each other." Arpita smiled.
Sanyukta smiled and dialed Mike's number in it.
"Hi Mike. I need to go to the office. Can you drop me?"
Randhir was not able to concentrate on work. Randhir threw the file in his hands and got up to look outside the window.
"We got the deal Randhir." said Parth entering his cabin.
"Good." answered Randhir looking out.
"You know you can call her. She is your wife." said Parth settling on the chair.
"I am an animal Parth. Pata hai kitna chillaya hun main uspe. Wo bhi bina baat ke. She doesn't know my past with that A*****e." he said turning around.
"You need to tell her then. Filhaal chal. Meeting hai." said Parth getting up from his seat.
Just then David entered the cabin and said in an urgent tone.
"Mrs.Shekhawat is here Sir."
